http://whychristmas.com/customs/snow.shtml

There is a large Ice carving festival held every year in Minneapolis, Minnesota USA where it is very cold during winter and lots of snow falls and Ice freezes.

This is what I do when I can't sleep. I Google obscure websites. This morning I was wondering why snow is associated with Christmas when there was no snow in Bethlehem as far as I know. But now it occurs to me that Christmas isn't so much about Christ's birth anymore. :frown:

Stolen vehicles. Inks found his truck missing this morning. Then when he called the police to report it stolen, they made him call the lot where they haul cars parked illegally during a snow emergency even though it wasn't parked on a snow plow route last night.

I wonder where it will be found and in what shape.

So does the St. Paul police department have that much faith in the tow trucks they contract with to think they might tow a vehicle that isn't tagged nor parked illegally?

Makes me laugh - almost.

I had a car stolen once. Got it back a day before insurance would have paid me book price for it. It had been sitting in an apartment parking lot on the east side of St. Paul for a couple of weeks.

But! It had also been used during a robbery or more and they found odds and ends of silver and jewelery and pawn ticket tags in the back. I never felt comfortable driving it after that so gave it to one of my daughters to drive bank and forth to college and bought a different one.

Hope it turns up safe and sound, Terry.

The latest is that it has not yet been cataloged at the impound lot. It's out there somewhere.

I don't know that it's the best day or not to steal a vehicle Kitch...but obviously someone thought it would be a good time. :coolfrown:

That's got to be a weird feeling, Terry, to come out and find something that big and heavy - GONE!

The one time I *thought* my car had been stolen - I had a red car and parked it outdoors in daylight while I attended an evening class, but by the time I came out of the building, it was dark out, and the parking lot lights made the car look General Lee orange. I started to go back inside to call and report it stolen, when I glanced back, and from that distance, it didn't look quite as orange, a few more steps away, and it was getting still more red. But what an odd feeling to come out and think something that big, that is ALWAYS where you left it, is gone!

I hope they find Inks' truck soon, in good shape, and they catch the shits who took it.

I ended up buying the rental that my insurance company had paid for for almost a month. They deducted those payments from the selling price and it was sold as a used car even though it was the current year and I had been driving it since it had just over 100 miles on it. I figured I had had a pretty good test drive in it and I had that car a long time. We eventually gave it to another one of my daughters to drive to school.

oh wow tv & inks!

I guess I would kinda hope it were stolen to get the insurance co to replace it instead of hoping it was impounded because of the snow and have to pay to get it out. in any case both suck!

aggrivation of the day for me besides getting in to work over 2 hours late was....the Pepsi machine not taking money!! had to buy a Coke in the machine next to it. At least its not in a can. :eyeroll:

Took me an hour to drive 3 miles home from work tonight. No accidents along the way. Just flipping slow, bumper to bumper traffic for the first mile and then 3 light changes at Dale.

Inks' truck hasn't been located. We are down to my one vehicle. I have to pick him up from work - but he is running late too and I haven't even heard from him yet.

I can't go shovel because I'd miss his call. We'll have to do that if we ever get him picked up and all of us back home.

This couldn't happen when the weather was decent. I'm irritated beyond irritated.

Whoever the flipping hades is that took that truck will get theirs in the end. The thought makes me less irritated.

A worker of mine has the same problem. He went to the impound lot 3 times and waited outside in the cold for over 3 hours each time with no idea of where his car is. He went to the government center and they keep saying that he needs to keep checking the impound lot. They also told him to contact the police if it wasn't there the next time because they were hearing of a rash of missing cars throughout the metro. I'm guessing that someone with a towing company decided it was free rein because nobody would question their actions. Except the owner of course who I'm sure would feel glad they lowered the car once the driver 'discovered' there wasn't a tag.

I thought the lame effect Charles Schwab commercials were the worse ever aired until I seen this one the other night. I thought it was a one time thing until I seen it twice more tonight. Man is this bad. I see there are certain organizations calling for a ban and it's removal from the air. I'll bet you can't make it all the way through it without either falling asleep or killing yourself. Very bad.

We were told by all the impound lots that now that the truck is reported stolen, we don't need to check there as it will be cross matched if it's catalogued when they bring it in.

And if we wanted to, we could just call. The lots in St. Paul and the one in Minneapolis will check their list of plate numbers to see if they have a match when you call. No need to go in there.

Hope ya find it Terry. My parents had a car stolen on Christmas eve of all days, right in front of my grandmother's house, where we were all having dinner.

Argh, these stupid coworkers, they whine and complain they don't have an actual fax machine (we've used an online service, efax). Then, we finally get a machine in, and they complain it's in their way.

724 new messages - 60 in this folder alone.. como se dice - "mark all as read"? ha. ha.

irritates: I have strep throat - but not just strep, really bad strep cause I am a carrier, and I have a mutant version. My fever is on day 4 and won't break. I'm stuck at work right now, finishing something, and had to bitch for a moment... not only do I have strep BUT I also have an upper resp. infection - flem, cough, you name it. my throat WITH codine pills still feels like razor blades, I can't eat. can't sleep, and can't swallow.

to add to that- yesterday my 2nd house (gran's house) got broken into - so I had to go to vallejo and deal with cops / file reports etc & on my way back home, my car died.

oh yeah - and... (I've had an allergic reaction to my antibiotics and am covered in itching hives)

but Mexico was awesome. I just have to keep telling myself that.

It better be the REAL Santa! I have a package for him this year. Well more of a memories album anyway. I have all of Ali's pictures taken with him since she was 1. A couple with me on his lap, one with he and I at Roger Waters this past summer and one with Santa Dave. All with captions. Boy would this guy be bummed if he wasn't there this year.

I popped in to the MOA earlier last week but didn't see him so you have me scared Kitch.

He's well worth the 6 figures he's getting IMHO!

Oh gosh, Cluey - big hugs to you!! Anyone who expects you to act like nothing has happened in the past year has never walked a similar path.

As you know, just being vertical and wearing clean underwear is a major victory, most days.

Its early yet. Be gentle with yourself and let yourself have whatever feelings. They pass more quickly if we don't pretend they aren't there.

Sure, I know there are situations where we feel the need to stifle it, but I sure hope no one expects you to just buck up all the time.

Amazing how people don't even want to allow people what used to be the usual and customary one year (and that's a minimum!) of grieving. As I've mentioned, I've read the stories of thousands of young widows and I've never seen one yet who could just make up their mind when to stop grieving. Yes, there are choices we make each day that keep pointing us in the right direction. And there are days we can't even do *that*. But, by and large, you will come to a day when you know you have turned a major corner, then another. Over time, you will find something has "just changed" and you will be able to look back at all the healing you have done, but you will also know it was not easy.

Wishing you peace, Cluey. And big hugs and lots of understanding, from those who matter.

Thanks a lot Eags. I was just in a funk last night. A bit this morning too I guess. The regular holiday stress plus work stress stacked on top of it doesn't help either.

They pass more quickly if we don't pretend they aren't there.

That's where I have my problem. I kid myself and think I can switch off the grief only to find out it smacks me in the ass when I least expect it.

I see a lot of rough nights in my future but I know how good it felt afterwards. It just sucks not knowing how this works. The learning process is getting old.

So let me get this straight - it is the REAL Santa but he's just acting different?
Thu, 12/06/2007 - 7:40 AM Permalink

All my learning about this has been trial and error, too, CM. I sometimes don't realize - or I fool myself into thinking that I am really going along OK. Then it smacks me in the ass and I realize I've been doing some mini-avoiding which has built up over time.

When I go to MN is the worst, because I stay so busy and am having fun being with people I don't get to see very often. I found I needed to build in some time to just be alone with my thoughts, check in and see how I'm doing that day.

These last few trips have been harder again because I am taking the loss of Frodo very hard, and it has brought out a lot of old grief, because of all Frodo meant to Da Yooper, and his loss being the end of an era here for me. When I get home from MN, its like all the emptiness hits me all over again. Takes me about a week to equilabrate.

Anyway, just want you to know you are not alone. Things do get better, but sometimes you do just get so sick of crying, and of not knowing how long you will feel this way. You will know, though, when you are through the worst of it. And you will always have your moments, but you will get to where you will find a new normal.
