Medallion Hotline 651-228-5547
Clue #1 You've joined the hunt for the regal runt
To prove searching does pay
Don't dig a hole or knock down a pole
And the golf course is out of play
Last year Jake took home the cake
With a clue a bit off level
This year we'll rinse off all our prints
Lest this hunt go to the devil
Clue #2 The point of all this is so that you won't miss
Your big chance to grab all the cash
Now gather your guys and a gal who is wise
You'll have to do something quite rash
Clue #3 We've scanned the county to hide our bounty
And keep you on your toes
It may sound risible, but our puck's invisible
Although it might just stick to your nose.
Clue #4 How fun is the snow how far will we go
You really ought to go see
Get up for the mission and not just the wishin'
Get into the game-it's all free
Clue #5 There once was a clue that drove you-know-who
To threaten a heinous act
We'd use it again but we're afraid of his pen
My friend, that's an unfortunate fact
Clue #6 All ye who look should honor the book
As one who stood for hope
Much was built in the name of the kilt
Look sharp now and never mope
Clue #7 If you should go look high then low
One could see it from a bower
If it's your bent you might seek a tent
To protect in case of shower
Take note of the wood and do what you should
To extract the prize for yourself
Build a bridge to your dreams as high as they seem
Leave nothing behind on the shelf
Clue #8 Look at the buck to acquire good luck
In finding the grail this year
Link a jar,a line, a star lawyer divine
While crying in your beer
He won, then lost and the nation was tossed
Into strife that was far from civil
The point I'm making is yours for the taking
Believe me - not the message board drivel
Clue #9 This name brings tears, elation and cheers
And occasionally even outrages
It sits on walls and rides the halls
And fills a dozen pages
The hills are alive and you'll have arrived
Refrain from the very injurious
Be bold and be brave but your skin you must save
What's off-limits should frankly be obvious
Clue #10 Look for the sight you hope is just right
You're doubtful and you're torn
Make the rounds for what rhymes with grounds
And part of a rose with a horn
Through flames and flow this park where you'll go
Is the site of sacred relics
Stay away from these and the cliffs if you please
Or you'll be in a heckuva fix
Clue #11 Air and river sounds lead all to Mounds
Far from the graves take your entourage
Twixt Burns and Thorn, an icy pathway is born
Across Mounds from a gray house and tan garage
Hell no fury hath as those on the wrong path
Mounds and Warner form a woodsy perimeter
The path not official contains footprints beneficial
Some 300 trudges in - quest for a quitter
This trail you must follow goes down a narrow hollow
Under a fallen tree to an old rusted drum
From here you must search for a hillside path perch
Wherein lies the center of fun

wow- ice blocks from the ice palace were only about $20 and we got a certificate for the purchase- remember that?
they want $122!!!!!! 300 pounds-
we could pool $$ together so the Cooler Crew gets their name in the newspaper. I would want the logo published in the thank you though not just CoolerCrew in a list of names, so nevermind.

I'm sitting here looking at the buttons, my favorite was from 1955. The silver and blue frosty frolic button.
(well, that wasn't very nice, was it?)
My wife stole my autographed one, so I got another, but she didn't sign it. You can buy them here:
http://www.klondikekates.org/pdfs/KKCalendar.pdf
I'll get my four buttons to register, and get four more on eBay sometime. Shoulda never started two collections.
The buttons suck!
The Tax Collectors are released from duty this year. :frown:
Right-O U R!
Any more word on that tax collector pin?
This year I'm asking them not to, heh.
Maybe I'll just wear the 2005 treasure hunters button this year when I'm out and about.
I think it's one of the few years that had a button that was sort of treasure hunter themed. Maybe 93 was as well.
not my kelly!!!!
I MISS YOU!!!!!
who fingered the window?
it looks like it was taken inside someones car :sheepish:
thats better than the 'Cooler Crew' in the snow at Mounds
The cooler crew at mounds
I'll take credit for that
Isn't that illegal? :coolfrown:
So, I'm looking through the booklet that comes with it, and one of the Coupons is for "Coffee Cottage". Get this, it's "Owned by the 2007 medallion winners!". Those women that always find the Mahtomedi medallion...
wonder if jake can sue for royalties of their business since he's a 2007 finder too
I personally don't like the buttons during most years, but I buy them anyway. That's the way it goes. You like some, you don't like some.
Also, the coupons and other benefits are slightly better this year, so that could be a selling point.
I think the bigger question is, what is the ongoing purpose of the winter carnival? The city and larger community has lost interest. Nothing Kate Kelly (who is leaving after this year, I think) or the board can do will change that. Too many people view it as an insider's club. I'm really only interested in the hunt and the second parade. Philosophically I like the idea of a city festival that recognizes the wonder and beauty of our winter. But, I resent the hell out of my money, that I spent on a button, being used for the purpose of supporting an old man and a young chick flouncing around town and a dance among St. Paul's "elite".
(trent just sent me a picture of you and me that was taken at the 2006 pre-dig not 5 minutes ago and here you are!) cool.
keep in mind that the buttons arn't even being allowed to be sold at the skating event--- so if people who attend that even REALLY want them they have to hunt down a different location to purchase them.
I agree with you that changes should be made to recognize the beauty of our winter in St Paul.
HiYa Gal.
How's things? Nice post
me2 - is that the photo where you are stealing her drink and doing the vanna impersonation?
My thoughts as well. I'm not as interested in the winter carnival as I am the hunt. However, I do think it's cool that St. Paul celebrates winter. Instead of having everybody hunker down in their homes and get cabin fever all winter, it's nice to have something to get us out of the house. However, I think times have changed, and some older traditions just don't make as much sense as they used to.
I'm still not fond of this year's button choice, but if they think they can make more money on it, more power to them I guess. It's sort of like when we had the superbowl back in 92, I wasn't around for that one (I was up in the frozen north trying to get through high school alive), but I seem to remember hearing how a lot of things were catered to get people visiting for the superbowl to come to the winter carnival. The biggest of which being the ice palace.
Speaking of which, I haven't heard any mention of something on that grand of a scale for this year, I don't suppose it's in the works, is it?
Thanks
Hi all, things are good here. Just popping in now that the hunt is getting closer.
I gotta run right now to an appt. but will stop back later today.
Tax Collector Pins will be available starting Monday Dec 10 at 7:00pm - $5 each.
See your Local Cooler Chicks Kat or Becky!
Yay!
Are enough people planning on doing the Vulcan Victory Dance on Feb 2?
If there are at least 10 - I will go ahead and get a table again this year - trying for the main room - but I will need to know that I can sell the 10 tickets....
