Pretty much any way of getting the answer is fair other than stealing it from another team or trying to get me to tell you. But however many people are involved in the victory, only 5 will get prizes.
So if JAKE calls AW during the hunt...he breaks the rule of "trying to get AW's help"
hmmm
sounds like at 8:00:15PM the team of cluey, timmy, jakey, me2ie, and becksie would be disqualified and out of the running.
t's a 24 hour treasure hunt that's modeled a bit more on "National Treasure" than the Medallion Hunt. It's the weekend before the hunt, starting on Friday, January 11th at 7pm. It begins with a social hour from 7 to 8 with refreshments being served. Then at 8pm each team (5 people per team max) will get a set of puzzles. Some of them are word puzzles, some are logic puzzles, some are puzzles that will require looking things up on the internet. Each of the 12 puzzles will tell you where an associated picture was taken. Once that is figured out, someone from the team will need to go there and find the exact spot the picture was taken and find out what the missing item or word in the picture is. The 12 missing items then fit together to form the final clue that takes you to the final destination and you have until 8pm on Saturday to get there. Once you get there, you will have to choose something and then you're done until 8pm. At that time we'll then have a Winner's Ball, the location of which will be disclosed to every team that gets to the final destination. The ball will include food and music and will be free to everyone who is registered for the hunt. The team that arrives at the ball with the proper object will be the winner!
This hunt is a fundraiser for my Mason Lodge. Thus the cost to participate is $100 per team (which can be split 5 ways and includes the reception and Winner's Ball). The winning team will get $300 in prize money, a personalized trophy for each member of the team, and of course the bragging rights of winning the hunt. I of course mention this here with the belief some of you might be interested in such a thing. If so, you'll need to register with me by January 9th and give me the name of your team and the names of your five official members (others are free to help you, but only 5 people will get trophies and be invited to the parties).
Starting at 7pm people can arrive at the Como Park Mason Lodge (where the rehash was last year) for a social hour. We'll serve some appetizers and beverages while you wait for the race to start.
At 7:55 we'll ask for one member of each team to line up and then at 8pm I'll go right down the row and hand each an envelope.
The envelope will contain 12 copies of photographs. Each photograph was taken at a landmark in either St. Paul or Minneapolis (within the city limits to the north and south and as far east and west as the two downtowns). Each picture will have something blanked out of it such as a word. It might also guide you to a specific letter in the missing word.
You probably won't be able to tell where the picture was taken just by looking at the picture. Thus on the back of each picture there will be a puzzle, and if you solve the puzzle, it will tell you which landmark to go to. These puzzles vary in nature. Some are word puzzles, some are logic puzzles, some defy such categorization. On average they are the difficulty of a crossword puzzle in that most of them, even if you're making continual progress on them, will still take a little bit to work all the way through. Again, you're free to look stuff up on the internet or call people for help if you want. Pretty much any way of getting the answer is fair other than stealing it from another team or trying to get me to tell you. But however many people are involved in the victory, only 5 will get prizes.
Once you've solved all the puzzles, and visited all the locations, you should be left with 12 letters. These letters will lead you to the final destination. Once your team gets to that location, you'll be asked to choose an item based on a certain criteria, such as picking the oldest item. Once you've made that choice, you have finished the race and you can rest until 8pm.
At 8pm we will have the Winner's Ball at a secret location which will include food at the very least. The team that arrives with the proper item (the oldest item in our example) is the winner of the hunt.
Hey AW, when we get to the room full of cups and have to choose the holy grail, is there going to be someone sort of supervising the items? I can see some of the people participating just taking every single item and working it out later on their own.
