Hmmm, I hadn't even considered that possibility. It would be pretty hard for no one to win. It would only happen if no one even finished. To be the winning team, you don't need to have, well let's say oldest item in the box to win. You have to have the oldest item at the Winner's Ball to win. So as long as at least one team finishes, they will have the winning item as no one would have an older item, even if there was one to choose from.
If no one finishes at all, then I'd say I designed a pretty crappy hunt and the Winner's Ball would go to waste. My hope actually is for everyone to finish. I'm probably going to have a system of hints available during the hunt though I'm still deciding exactly how and when to release them. So I think the odds of no one winning are pretty close to nil.
Not exactly true. Teams that don't win, but do finish still get to attend the Winner's Ball. I just finalized the details of that today and it will include free pool and darts for all the official members of every team that finishes.
Make it out to me. I'll be handling all the finances and then if there's any money left over I'll turn in the profits to the Lodge. At this point though it looks like we're just going to break even as I think one of my teams from work is bailing on me leaving me with 6 teams ($300 for the prize, $50 for the trophies and supplies, $50 for the opening reception appetizers, and $200 for the Winner's Ball is the budget)
Where are boundaries again? From what I've read I visualize the west side of downtown Mpls (Lowery Tunnel/Walker area) to the east side of downtown St. Paul (Lafayette bridge / Savoys area)
Teams may be stuck on different puzzles so giving them all the same hint wouldn't prove equally useful. And teams that progress quickly should be rewarded for that and not have other teams catch up to them via hints. The hints are meant more to keep people from getting stuck and trying to make sure they finish. What I'm kind of thinking is no hints for the first 12 hours. After that a team can ask for a hint on a puzzle once every two hours.
I will probably want a number for everyone anyway though in case there are any errors or anything that needs to be clarified for everyone.
Free pool and free darts. Food and beverages are up to you if you want any. They do serve pretty good food and it's not expensive, and they have a full bar.
As for crashing the party, it's not that I'm opposed to anyone who might just happen to show up there at the same time. I just don't want anyone who paid for the thing and worked through it to get there to feel cheated if other people just show up and get the same benefits for free.
No, I had to change that plan. I figured it wasn't worth spending the money on food if we're not starting until 8pm. I figured it would be better spend on the darts and pool.
Fabulous Fern's(651) 225-9414400 Selby Avenue, St. Paul, MN, 55102
You will find an impressive choice of the usual American fare here, plus other goodies to suit even the most curious of palates. Order up a great burger topped with unusual cheeses. For dinner you will find many offerings of chicken, salmon and steaks. Adjoining the restaurant is a full bar and pool hall. During the summer months, enjoy your meal outdoors on the deck. A late-night menu and Sunday brunch is also available. There is a large lot right next to Fern's, but parking is always at a premium in this popular area.
When you think about it,he has had all of his mock hunt launch parties at Fabulous Ferns where several participants in this upcoming hunt have attended.
Each of the 12 puzzles will tell you where an associated picture was taken. Once that is figured out, someone from the team will need to go there and find the exact spot the picture was taken and find out what the missing item or word in the picture is. The 12 missing items then fit together to form the final clue that takes you to the final destination and you have until 8pm on Saturday to get there. Once you get there, you will have to choose something and then you're done until 8pm. At that time we'll then have a Winner's Ball, the location of which will be disclosed to every team that gets to the final destination.
tim...my thinking was this...after 12 clues it leads you to a spot, there you need to "chose something".
but this is a final spot? or is it...the says the "winner's ball" is disclosed at the final location....so is there a 13th location?
An idea for a possible hint, would it be possible to post the riddles and pictures at some point during the competition, so those of us who cannot be there can help people? We can't be there for the shindig, but we have a better chance of helping people. Plus we get to play along at home. It could be something that gets posted at 8am or something?
technically the final location is the 13th location, so the question would be if there is a 14th. My impression was that the final destination is something other than the location of the winners ball. My belief in this has grown now that AW has given us "details" about what is happening at the winners ball.
if not please let me know so I can get us taken care of.

You could have a designated cell phone to text the hint to. One for each team. That way every team gets it at the same time.
You can just call me with the hints, I'll be sure to get them to the other teams

thats wonderful!
thanks david
or is it just free pool
pay darts?
need to know if I need to bring quarters
How's this look AW? Accurate enough. Feel free to use for other teams too.
I basically went from 35E to 35W and city boundries on the north and south
so a person could "crash" the party..just need to buy drinks on their own??

I know they had them at one time..
So the wining team gets free chow and all finishing teams get free pool and darts?
