I thought it would be nice to have a spot for us to share our memories of Dave, just like we did with Kirk, and we can get them passed along to his family.

Hey where did we go,

Days when the rains came

Down in the hollow,

Playin' a new game,

Laughing and a running hey, hey

Skipping and a jumping

In the misty morning fog with

Our hearts a thumpin' and you

My brown eyed girl,

You my brown eyed girl.

Whatever happened

To Tuesday and so slow

Going down the old mine

With a transistor radio

Standing in the sunlight laughing,

Hiding behind a rainbow's wall,

Slipping and sliding

All along the water fall, with you

My brown eyed girl,

You my brown eyed girl.

Do you remember when we used to sing,

Sha la la la la la la la la la la te da

So hard to find my way,

Now that I'm all on my own.

I saw you just the other day,

My how you have grown,

Cast my memory back there, Lord

Sometime I'm overcome thinking 'bout

Making love in the green grass

Behind the stadium with you

My brown eyed girl

You my brown eyed girl

Do you remember when we used to sing

Sha la la la la la la la la la la te da.

The lyrics are great, it's true...but the sound of his voice, the overplay the song has gotten all of these years...it's just not for me

but I'm glad you still enjoy it

of course not

She's a good girl, loves her mam a

Loves Jesus and America too

She's a good girl, crazy 'bout Elvis

Loves horses and her boyfriend too

It's a long day living in Reseda

There's a freeway runnin' through the yard

And I'm a bad boy cause I don't even miss her

I'm a bad boy for breakin' her heart

And I'm free, free fallin'

Yeah I'm free, free fallin'

All the vampires walkin' through the valley

Move west down Ventura Boulevard

And all the bad boys are standing in the shadows

A ll the good girls are home with broken hearts

And I'm free, free fallin'

Yeah I'm free, free fallin'

Free fallin', now I'm free fallin', now I'm

Free fallin', now I'm free fallin', now I'm

I wanna glide down over Mulholland

I wanna write her name in the sky

Gonna free fall out into nothin'

Gonna leave this world for a while

And I'm free, free fallin'

Yeah I'm free, free fallin'

Let me run with you tonight

and i'll take you on a moonlight ride

There's someone i used to see

but she don't give a damn for me

But let me get to the point

Let's roll another joint

And turn the radio loud

I'm too alone to be proud

You don't know how it feels

You don't know how it feels

to be me...

People come People go

Some grow young Some grow cold

I woke up in between

A memory and a dream

So let's get to the point

Let's roll another joint

Let's head on down the road

There's somewhere I gotta go

And you don't know how it feels

You don't know how it feels

to be me...

My old man was born to rock

He's still tryin to beat the clock

Think of me what you will

I got a little space to fill

So let's get to the point

Let's roll another joint

Let's head on down the road

There's somewhere i gotta go

And you don't know how it feels

You don't know how it feels

No you don't know how it feels

to be me...

And you don't know how it feels

You don't know how it feels

No you don't know how it feels

to be me...

I haven't cared for Van Morrison since he slaughtered Comfortably Numb in "The Wall: Live at Berlin"...one of my favorite songs and he sang it all wrong...and I mean ALL WRONG on a thousand levels

well, I like any cooked mushroooms but not raw mushrooms...same goes for green peppers. So I guess it follows that I like Dylan but not Morrison or Petty. Ah, life is full of paradoxes (paradoxi?), isn't it? :eyeroll:

I had sent Margie and Esther the information about the DVD and a link to the website.

I got this in response this evening:

Thank you for sending my cousin Esther the info about the DVD. I wanted you to know that we ordered one. It's under my partner Clare's name because she ordered it for us.

Loved the web site! I'll try to spend more time on it and the links in the near future. Have you done the medallion hunt yet this year? I'm sure the Cooler crew won't be the same without Dave, but I wish you luck!

Best wishes, Martha Young

I hope she don't get as misty as I did seeing DDY say that he still had many years of hunting left in him.

But it does show him in some of his funnier moments... I love the spot with the Ramen noodles... It was one-liner after one-liner...

Just a great guy.

That was a memorable part of the film - but the rest was typical Santa Dave when he was enjoying being the character he was.

And that snoring Santa he had - we found that and gave it to him for his birthday one year. We never saw him laying down, but if you sat him up, it was a spitting image of Santa Dave micronapping.

It touched me that he dragged that around in his jalopy and shared it in the film.

Hello to all. This is my first post on this board, but when I saw the memorial to Dave I felt I had to come here first.

I remember being a young boy, 10 or 11 years old in the early 90's. Dave then worked as a delivery driver for Hogetti's Pizza on Central in NE Minneapolis (it's now a Mexican restaurant). My uncle Scott was one of the main cooks, so I would often come in and sit down for some free pizza. Scott was good friends with Dave, and they went searching for the medallion on a few occasions before the Cooler Crew days. I remember whenever Dave came back from a delivery, if he had some time between runs he would always chat and make people laugh, he NEVER had a negative attitude no matter what was going on. Scott would tell me about the times Dave was smacked over the head with a lead pipe, or thrown down a flight of stairs, all for the sake of a free pizza and the less than $20 he carried with him on deliveries. Whenever Dave was asked about incidents like these, his attitude was "Oh, it was nothing." I don't know if he had a hateful bone in his body.

One year, I actually got to be in the Hogetti's pizza car in the Central Ave parade. Dave was the driver. It was a convertible, and the two of us kids in the back were looking forward to basking in some sun along the parade route, waving at everybody along the way. Until it started raining. The top went up, most of the parade goers went home, and it could've been a rotten memory. But Dave made us laugh the whole way, joking about the weather and about various other things like only he could.

Although I was only between 11-16 years old when I was around him, I'll never forget him. "Fabulous!"

Rest in peace Dave.

Was just going through the rest of the thread.. So is Woodsman Bob the same Hogetti's Bob that I remember? Looks like him. If so, I remember he always carried around a fake medallion he made for good luck, then he would joke about holding it out his van window driving away from the park, screaming he found it, lol

Good times. Wish I could've hunted with Dave and everyone if I would have found this board a few years back, but I know he'll always be with the hunt in spirit. That was awesome what the Press did for him after his passing, I had no clue until I saw the DVD.

Terry

I don't think the woodsman Bob is the same one 40below.

The Woodsman Bob I know grew up in the SSP area, was a disabled vet, had a place up north in the woods in the Sturgeon Lake area.

Believe me, if you hunted, you hunted with Santa Dave. He was always out in a park if the medallion hunt was going on with just some stops for micronapping or getting something to eat.

Come to think of it, it is sorta odd in a funny way that you didn't run into each other.

^ that's what I was thinking too. It was so strange coming in here and seeing how much he meant to the Cooler Crew, and how active he was in the hunt... I never once ran into him at the park or the times I was at the paper for the clue, I didn't even know he was still active in the hunt until my uncle mentioned he had a role in NTFCF, and I didn't get to see that until just a week or two ago for the first time.

The world works in mysterious ways, that's for sure.
Tue, 02/05/2008 - 5:35 PM Permalink
Terry

And the world is smaller than you think.

So my curiousity is up. What Woodsman Bob did you know? And why was he called Woodsman?
