I finally got a cell phone, after not having one for several years. A lot of things have changed since then.

Now I'm trying to figure out all the little weird things it does. Like what happens when a friend replies to a voice mail (we're both on Verizon) and why sometimes would I be sitting here and not hear my cell phone ring, then my friend calls my home phone right away and I answer.

So...I'm just trying to learn about all the nuances...and you know how instruction manuals are these days - vague.

So I'm asking this friend whether she called my cell phone and then left a message, or whether she simply responded to the message I'd left for her earlier by communicating through the voice mail system.

And I tell her the reason I want to know is that I am trying to learn how my phone works (or doesn't).

She said, "you know what your problem is? You are expecting too much of your phone. That is why you are frustrated."

I want to know as much about this phone as I can realistically cram into my brain, cuz there is a hunt coming up, and I don't want to be standing in a park, clueless about why I can't retrieve a voice mail, nor see the "missed call" I *know* is there.

Is there a Cell Phone 101 class I can take somewhere?

I don't have verizon right now but I'm sure there is someone here who can help you with all that.

my gripe of the day..... flushing the toilet and it doesnt flush...

check the knobby, its fine.... check the sink...no water. omg, did I pay the bill? have to run the kid to school before dealing with said problem.... driving home I see the blue st paul sewer truck and a block blocked off and the street all dug up (about 3 blocks from my house). ... I stop and ask and he said it wold be up and running in an hour --- whew! I'm just icky sitting here dying to wash my hands!

I always panic when something like water or cable goes out, trash doesnt get picked up because of a holiday...first thought is "did I pay the bill"? uuuuuuh

and on top of that this morning.... I laid on the horn because I almost got hit by another durango and on a different street a car started to cross the median and swerved to not hit me head on!

I need to stay in! nerves on end today - at least I don't have to be at work til this afternoon -

first thing I'd do if I had no water in the bathroom is check my basement for a broken pipe. Theyre easy to find, just look for the water all over.

I was gonna check for water in the basement when I got back home but since I talked to the workers on the way home I didnt have to....

now that I have the e-mail problem taken care of I can go try to take that shower that I couldnt earlier and get myself in to work.

I have verizon - you can hit the respond to VM thing in the VM menu, and it will send a response to the other person -without ringing their phone (if they have it enabled)

also - and it's not just with verizon, if you don't have a good signal in some places (like near computers - or for some strange reason, the bottom of my purse) your phone won't ring - it will however recieve data like email or txt msgs.

I'll PM you my phone number - we are on the same service, so calling me is free... :sheepish: you can play with your phone all you want and send me stuff - i don't mind.

I did the same thing last year when I got there for the hunt - had a brand new phone with all sorts of data options etc etc etc - it was awesome, and at the same time frustrating - if only I knew then what I know now about my phone. I'd have been much more sane.

Vino, I read your PM before I saw this post - that might be a good idea to call and send you stuff to test it - I will do that as situations arise and thanks for the info about how the signal and voice mail stuff works.

The irritating part was not even so much the phone, but my friend telling me that my problem is I expect too much of my phone.

She has been "reading again" - motivational sales materials - and she talks to anyone who isn't where she is, like they are a stupid child.

But I'll take any help I can get with the phone - won't be telling her about it anymore, though. LOL!

I wish I could stay up there when we go to Camp Ripley... Once a week someone makes a run up there for our shop. Leave at 6 a.m. and return usually around 2 or so. Sux bad. Good time to noodle though, nothing much else to do there...

My guess.. busy through the hunt, and then it'll be back to dead again... No time off either, guess I'll be running on hardly any sleep the next couple weeks.
