Clue #1 You've joined the hunt for the regal runt
To prove searching does pay
Don't dig a hole or knock down a pole
And the golf course is out of play

Last year Jake took home the cake
With a clue a bit off level
This year we'll rinse off all our prints
Lest this hunt go to the devil

Clue #2 The point of all this is so that you won't miss
Your big chance to grab all the cash
Now gather your guys and a gal who is wise
You'll have to do something quite rash

Clue #3 We've scanned the county to hide our bounty
And keep you on your toes
It may sound risible, but our puck's invisible
Although it might just stick to your nose.

Clue #4 How fun is the snow how far will we go
You really ought to go see
Get up for the mission and not just the wishin'
Get into the game-it's all free

Clue #5 There once was a clue that drove you-know-who
To threaten a heinous act
We'd use it again but we're afraid of his pen
My friend, that's an unfortunate fact

Clue #6 All ye who look should honor the book
As one who stood for hope
Much was built in the name of the kilt
Look sharp now and never mope

Clue #7 If you should go look high then low
One could see it from a bower
If it's your bent you might seek a tent
To protect in case of shower

Take note of the wood and do what you should
To extract the prize for yourself
Build a bridge to your dreams as high as they seem
Leave nothing behind on the shelf

Clue #8 Look at the buck to acquire good luck
In finding the grail this year
Link a jar,a line, a star lawyer divine
While crying in your beer

He won, then lost and the nation was tossed
Into strife that was far from civil
The point I'm making is yours for the taking
Believe me - not the message board drivel

Clue #9 This name brings tears, elation and cheers
And occasionally even outrages
It sits on walls and rides the halls
And fills a dozen pages

The hills are alive and you'll have arrived
Refrain from the very injurious
Be bold and be brave but your skin you must save
What's off-limits should frankly be obvious

Clue #10 Look for the sight you hope is just right
You're doubtful and you're torn
Make the rounds for what rhymes with grounds
And part of a rose with a horn

Through flames and flow this park where you'll go
Is the site of sacred relics
Stay away from these and the cliffs if you please
Or you'll be in a heckuva fix

Clue #11 Air and river sounds lead all to Mounds
Far from the graves take your entourage
Twixt Burns and Thorn, an icy pathway is born
Across Mounds from a gray house and tan garage

Hell no fury hath as those on the wrong path
Mounds and Warner form a woodsy perimeter
The path not official contains footprints beneficial
Some 300 trudges in - quest for a quitter

This trail you must follow goes down a narrow hollow
Under a fallen tree to an old rusted drum
From here you must search for a hillside path perch
Wherein lies the center of fun

Downtown Dave

Green--yes, that's why I'm looking for a future reference to hearts, clubs, diamonds or spades so I can only have one suit.

Ah! Thanks! But the caves are closer to CHAIR-O-KEY! I do agree thinking/going to Lilydale would be a rash thought for many of us. But wouldn't a rash thought also be putting the Med in Chair-O-Key this year?

Well, to ME... Ittiz never a rash thought to put the Med in Chair-O-Key. It should be there every year as far as I'm concerned.

Damn, now my forehead hurts.

"I see," says the Blind Woman.

Oh! Justice? Nah. She's blind, not wise. I keep thinking of owls, but they're usually considered male.

This was in reference to your post, D-Dave, about just one suit.

Green, people were thinking Harriet Island, but the rash line in the clue meant to move into Lilydale.

Is there any woman, associated with a bunch o'guys, with the last name "Wise"?

Oh, thanks, Leela! NICE to see you!

I still don't understand how rash sends one to Lilydale *from* Harriet. I get Devil Island, but don't see how they're sending us from there specifically to Lilydale.

Status Quo! Color me stupid!

Thanks Mucky....I was wondering that...I know I've seen them just not sure where. That was for the noodle that guys with a wise gal was referring to chess pieces.

It's a stretch....but who knows at this point.

Ok ... how could I be replying to myself . I was replying to mucky.

That's odd.

I like Harriet. I also like the idea of Ma Barker inreference to to wise guy=ganster. Hmm. Tough to think and stay busy at work.

I thought any woman would be considered wise compared to the bunch of guys she was with?

I hear ya BM, HEY you been out this year yet?
Mon, 01/21/2008 - 11:24 AM Permalink
Brassmonkey

No not yet, I feel pretty safe right now. Pretty vague clues that could fit a few big parks. I have a certain area in a park that I like but I need a little more confirmation. My wife just got us an apt downtown starting Thursday so we will be out Thurs night through Sunday night. Then after that i will be on my own as she will have to go back to work. There is a good chance that if the next clue helps me I will be out digging tomorrow morning.

mrbud1

Yeah me neither. I hope to get out tommorow night or wensday night. Hope it goes until this weekend, Im sure it will, but you never know. I definalty need another clue to figure things out!
Mon, 01/21/2008 - 11:31 AM Permalink
Brassmonkey

It should last until the weekend as long as they don't give us another clue that is "a bit off level"
Mon, 01/21/2008 - 11:34 AM Permalink
mrbud1

yeah no kidding. maybe youll find it this year, if it is off level. Lets think about the clues. The second one I like Mar Barker and the boys. She gathered her guys and did robberies and kidnapping for cash, even though thats quite rash. But that also makes me think, go back to the same park as last year. Hmmm any thoughts

Brassmonkey

Ive been looking into that, I don't have any solid non stretching clue fits to HF or Central besides rash and Miss=Mississippi.
Mon, 01/21/2008 - 11:40 AM Permalink
Brassmonkey

I'm not sold on Mar Barker, it certainly fits easily but I'm keeping options open.

I'm hoping for another big clue 3 like last year but I'm certain they are specifically going to make sure that it doesn't get found early therefore we should expect 3-4 more ambiguous clues.

Ma Barker lived in WSP, not St. Paul, over the Ramsey/Dakota line.

tim_the_hunter

yeah, but where did she gather her guys?

Typically the Barker bar was across the street from the old science museum; there's a senior center there now.

Ma Barker and the Boys did something quite rash in abducting and ransoming the Hamms guy. Hamms Brewery was next to Sweded Hollow. Just a random thought.

I agree with ya there BM. I want to make it to the weekend. Looking forward to number 3. Has anyone else been out hunting yet?

Wheew.. finally caught up in here (helps that its slow at work today).

Harriet Island sounds good, but I agree, they have a good reputation of sending hunters there only to tell you in the last few clues something to the effect of "Hey Dummies, it's over here, not Harriet".

I like the thoughts on something near the Mississippi. By size, Lilydale would make for a long hunt, and its borders with Dakota county make defining the area to search problematic for the casual hunter. Still, if they really want a long hunt, it would be a good choice.

I haven't been out yet, but I plan on going out tonite/tomorrow regardless of how good the clue is. I already have a few parks in mind.

BTW, I was out yesterday looking (well, given my roommate could care less about the hunt, I was mostly geocaching). I saw 4 groups at Highland near the bridge. 1 Group at Crosby, searching the shelter though. I can't imagine they would ever pick Crosby and hide it at the shelter, unless they're counting on everyone passing it up.

I wanted to check Como, just because it's a favorite spot of mine to check on the 1st day (comeon, you know someday they'll hide it there again), but I ran out of time.

Anyone going to be at the paper tonight? I was thinking of dropping by there on my way home.

I will be at the paper, KC.

Haven't been out hunting yet. Art and I were taking about scoping out a couple parks of interest this afternoon.

My hesitation about Harriet Island is that it just came back into play this year, and that catches everyone's attention. To go with Lilydale park would be smart of them cause they can make references to Harriet island and things seen from both Harriet and Lilydale. Question though, would the city want hunters digging around the fossil area or would that not go over well?

My hesitation about Harriet is that there is no place to hide it there

Also, historically speaking, Ma Barker was considered quite a moron, her status as the gang leader was wildly overblown. The two older brothers ran the gang, and they took care of Ma Barker, but she wasn't a criminal mastermind or anything.

I agree, harriet is pretty wide open, except near the marina area. Still, they seem to like wooded areas, as lately its made for longer hunts...

I haven't seen any ice skating clues yet, what gives?
Mon, 01/21/2008 - 12:30 PM Permalink
regman

Haha KC, they are probably too afraid that people would take it as a hint and dig up ice rinks, even though it is against the rules. The rules don't stop people from digging up golf courses every year.

We drove in to town today, picked up a few other Wolfpac members and proceded to Harriet Island. Grandma Kathy and Connor, our 3 year old grandson got out and walked around for a while. Cutiest thing I ever saw. Grandma and her shadow.

Are you going to wait until the double-digit clues as usual?
