Medallion Hotline 651-228-5547
Clue #1 You've joined the hunt for the regal runt
To prove searching does pay
Don't dig a hole or knock down a pole
And the golf course is out of play
Last year Jake took home the cake
With a clue a bit off level
This year we'll rinse off all our prints
Lest this hunt go to the devil
Clue #2 The point of all this is so that you won't miss
Your big chance to grab all the cash
Now gather your guys and a gal who is wise
You'll have to do something quite rash
Clue #3 We've scanned the county to hide our bounty
And keep you on your toes
It may sound risible, but our puck's invisible
Although it might just stick to your nose.
Clue #4 How fun is the snow how far will we go
You really ought to go see
Get up for the mission and not just the wishin'
Get into the game-it's all free
Clue #5 There once was a clue that drove you-know-who
To threaten a heinous act
We'd use it again but we're afraid of his pen
My friend, that's an unfortunate fact
Clue #6 All ye who look should honor the book
As one who stood for hope
Much was built in the name of the kilt
Look sharp now and never mope
Clue #7 If you should go look high then low
One could see it from a bower
If it's your bent you might seek a tent
To protect in case of shower
Take note of the wood and do what you should
To extract the prize for yourself
Build a bridge to your dreams as high as they seem
Leave nothing behind on the shelf
Clue #8 Look at the buck to acquire good luck
In finding the grail this year
Link a jar,a line, a star lawyer divine
While crying in your beer
He won, then lost and the nation was tossed
Into strife that was far from civil
The point I'm making is yours for the taking
Believe me - not the message board drivel
Clue #9 This name brings tears, elation and cheers
And occasionally even outrages
It sits on walls and rides the halls
And fills a dozen pages
The hills are alive and you'll have arrived
Refrain from the very injurious
Be bold and be brave but your skin you must save
What's off-limits should frankly be obvious
Clue #10 Look for the sight you hope is just right
You're doubtful and you're torn
Make the rounds for what rhymes with grounds
And part of a rose with a horn
Through flames and flow this park where you'll go
Is the site of sacred relics
Stay away from these and the cliffs if you please
Or you'll be in a heckuva fix
Clue #11 Air and river sounds lead all to Mounds
Far from the graves take your entourage
Twixt Burns and Thorn, an icy pathway is born
Across Mounds from a gray house and tan garage
Hell no fury hath as those on the wrong path
Mounds and Warner form a woodsy perimeter
The path not official contains footprints beneficial
Some 300 trudges in - quest for a quitter
This trail you must follow goes down a narrow hollow
Under a fallen tree to an old rusted drum
From here you must search for a hillside path perch
Wherein lies the center of fun

Did you set that up bear? If so, thanks to you as well.
But seriously, what an awesome hunt!
I'm sure we were extremely close to the finder, and if so they were very quiet about it because we didn't even see any "fake" finds. We got the clue on the conference call, followed the directions, found a sweet "perch" and dug like nuts. I got that adrenaline rush of finding it, because I had such a good feeling about our spot.
Hears hoping that the clues could have gotten us there before tonight and we just missed it.
I don't know about that. The closest I got to it was before any clues came out and I put Indian Mounds on my Top 4 list. The clues only brought me away from it instead of towards it.
This clue sounds a lot like a 12th clue instead of an 11th, a bit too descriptive (I think because they didn't want to have a mad dash tomorrow in those woods, at least they're that smart).
Okay, the woods is getting old, fallen trees doubly so. I find caches in those all the time, it's not where I figure I need to find a medallion.
While in the woods there, we met a guy that could barely speak english. He said he talked to a guy that found an ammo box. Probably another cache that just bit the dust.
I like the older hides that were more bizzare, this woods/ice/fallen tree routine has gotten really old.
Meh.. off to bed, and to reaquaint myself with my life. I'll get out to the spot after the clues are explained to get coordinates. My group might still meet up tomorrow night at the park, have a burger and see this hunt out our own way. I know where I'll be looking next year anyway.
Try again next year.
... or don't.
First, sorry about the phone battery dying. It was happening all over to people. My phone just got too cold waiting for the clue. Lesson for next year. Don't call into the conf. call until right before the paper comes out.
I did end up heading down to the park, so thanks to those who manned the call after I left. I was familiar with the correct path because I walked part way down it the night before. I don't think the picture Brad has above is correct. It is hard to tell with the leaves, but the correct path starts right on the concrete walking path, right next to the road.
The other thing that messed people up was the two barrels. I didn't know there were two, so it worked in my favor, but others ended up on the top path rather than on the bottom path because of the two barrels. It was surprising to me how few CC members we saw (exception New Daddy and BFG), but then I learned about the other barrel. Once you walked under the big tree, the site was obvious. But, it was a really big space and the hunt could have gone longer. There really weren't that many people there. And, those who were, were friendly, polite, and decent. I didn't meet anyone obnoxious and I didn't feel unsafe. In the end, I'm glad I decided to go down there.
Re: the cold. I didn't get cold in line until the very end and that was because I was futzing with my phone, which I needed to dial. In the park, I was warm enough and surprised to see the negative 15 on the thermometer. Because of the wind, I was glad not to be in an open field digging.
Tim, thanks for the offer for the hot chocolate, zephy, thanks for providing it.
Mucky, sorry ya got discouraged, can't say I blame you.
Kitch, I'm not blaming you for once, you're still the guy to go to for answers, maybe you can get some out of the cluewriter.
Ian, I heard you went to town digging meticulously with little to no sleep for days, I found that amazing.
Mrmnmikey, great seeing you in line all those evenings. Sorry I never stuck around, I was bouncing around from park to park every night.
I did more hunting this year than all my previous years combined, at least I can have a little bit of satisfaction in that.
I hadn't heard about all the kellogg stuff until after the hunt turned to mounds, but nice thinking out of the box everyone, perhaps some year you'll be vindicated.
When/where is the pity party?
My brother's friend's wife is a PP editor. As I was sitting in the lobby tonight talking on the phone, she came out of work and proceeded to laugh heartily at me. She can't say anything about the hunt, but didn't say this. "You guys suck if you don't find it tonight. Tomorrow's clue will certainly get you there, but you should have it tonight." So, I think they must have rushed the clues a bit.
While digging on my perch we had a guy tell us it was supposed to be a "past" perch, not a current one. Lisa had already made it down there so we confirmed it was indeed "path" and not "past". He told us he got it off twincities.com.
Now I come back and see Redbear had the slight typing error, and someone must have jacked the clue from here and put it there. Perhaps that threw some people off although I doubt it. Just kind of neat how that worked out.
I won't know for sure until I get out to see the actual location.
2000 crazies out in that cold, the suprize of a 12th clue rush tonight. I thought that ALL the people around that area tonight where very nice, friendly and willing to help each other, must have been the cold that brought out the best in them. I think doing a play by play from the park would be fun next time their is a rush like that,
Obb's tom night for pity party??
Thank OT for that. HeH
It's right up top isn't it?
We were all on the wrong path.
If we had all gone down the right path (that our cars were parked directly in fron of) it very well could have/ should have been a cooler to find it because there would have been a lot more of us in the area.
I'm glad at least some coolers found the right path and had a shot at it.
What wasn't fun was how these clues played out. I dunno.. call it nothing more than after-hunt bitterness, but I think the clues were very poorly put together this year... leading everyone all over Ramsey County until clue 8/9 when they just spill out IM, and then to turn clue 11 into a clue 12 (which is exactly what it was - no getting around that), without any warning, on a night that's -50 windchill... forcing those of us at home to rush out to the park knowing it'll be found, only to hear it was found already... ahhh.. I've been hunting for 21 years, and seriously hunting for at least the past 11 years, this was the least fun my family and myself have had on a hunt.. my kids didn't even get a serious chance to dig in the park it was found in
Don't get me wrong, we still had a good time as a family... but :barf: goes out to the CW... time to hand the job over to Soucheray, I'd trust him to put together a better hunt than this
But congrats to the finder.. even though I'm not officially in the Cooler Crew (how does that happen by the way?), I was still surprised it wasn't found by one of you, with the conference call and the crew in the park ready to go... as has been said, there's always next year, and hopefully it'll be funner than this.
Welcome to the Cooler Crew 40below!!!!
You are an official Coolerhead!
Welcome to the Cooler Crew 40below!!!!
Okay... Night all
I am going to go curl up and die for a while. Maybe see you kids tomorrow
And ittiz for life and ever and ever. "You can check out any time you like but you can never leave."
Well bless pat! Good stuff to the Hunt, not so good stuff.
Leelabell and all you guys, THANKS for the phone call. I didn't get on because I'd have lost my connection here, but that was my choice. How very supportive and a wonderful team effort!
I knew when I went to bed it would have been found before I got up, dangit.
Now we're into the next 10 years for the 'Crew.
And "save your skin" = not by the mounds; you're not burying anyone - save your skin for later.
I'm sitting here noodling still, am I not? Huh! Will be interesting to see what the Clue Writer says.
