Clue #1 You've joined the hunt for the regal runt
To prove searching does pay
Don't dig a hole or knock down a pole
And the golf course is out of play
Last year Jake took home the cake
With a clue a bit off level
This year we'll rinse off all our prints
Lest this hunt go to the devil
Clue #2 The point of all this is so that you won't miss
Your big chance to grab all the cash
Now gather your guys and a gal who is wise
You'll have to do something quite rash
Clue #3 We've scanned the county to hide our bounty
And keep you on your toes
It may sound risible, but our puck's invisible
Although it might just stick to your nose.
Clue #4 How fun is the snow how far will we go
You really ought to go see
Get up for the mission and not just the wishin'
Get into the game-it's all free
Clue #5 There once was a clue that drove you-know-who
To threaten a heinous act
We'd use it again but we're afraid of his pen
My friend, that's an unfortunate fact
Clue #6 All ye who look should honor the book
As one who stood for hope
Much was built in the name of the kilt
Look sharp now and never mope
Clue #7 If you should go look high then low
One could see it from a bower
If it's your bent you might seek a tent
To protect in case of shower
Take note of the wood and do what you should
To extract the prize for yourself
Build a bridge to your dreams as high as they seem
Leave nothing behind on the shelf
Clue #8 Look at the buck to acquire good luck
In finding the grail this year
Link a jar,a line, a star lawyer divine
While crying in your beer
He won, then lost and the nation was tossed
Into strife that was far from civil
The point I'm making is yours for the taking
Believe me - not the message board drivel
Clue #9 This name brings tears, elation and cheers
And occasionally even outrages
It sits on walls and rides the halls
And fills a dozen pages
The hills are alive and you'll have arrived
Refrain from the very injurious
Be bold and be brave but your skin you must save
What's off-limits should frankly be obvious
Clue #10 Look for the sight you hope is just right
You're doubtful and you're torn
Make the rounds for what rhymes with grounds
And part of a rose with a horn
Through flames and flow this park where you'll go
Is the site of sacred relics
Stay away from these and the cliffs if you please
Or you'll be in a heckuva fix
Clue #11 Air and river sounds lead all to Mounds
Far from the graves take your entourage
Twixt Burns and Thorn, an icy pathway is born
Across Mounds from a gray house and tan garage
Hell no fury hath as those on the wrong path
Mounds and Warner form a woodsy perimeter
The path not official contains footprints beneficial
Some 300 trudges in - quest for a quitter
This trail you must follow goes down a narrow hollow
Under a fallen tree to an old rusted drum
From here you must search for a hillside path perch
Wherein lies the center of fun

I think if we get a big enough group, we'll be able to get em all in no time.
Like Tim said - it is what it is. I guess I just don't enjoy it much.
We'll probably do a sample park though and see how easy it is to do (highland or como I'm guessing). If it's simple enough, I'll let ya know.
I play it close to the breast... :ooh: sometimes and for multiple reasons. 1) Nobuddy gives a ratz ass what I think; 2) I used to go about 10 degrees off Oscar's Razor - which I've gotten MUCH BETTER at NOT doing!, 3) I'm usually wrong. If asked, I think I'd tell. But no one ever asks, so why toss it out there? No one's interested.
I think ittiz something we've all done, one year or another or at one time or another. Kind'a goes with the hunting gig. On the whole, I think we do well sharing. Mostly.

From e-mail:
"Yes, I hate prime rib. Like gnawing on bloody gauze."
BTW -- GREAT imagery! I'm outtie
All things considered, small tiffs like this one (ittiz small to me) are just part of what comes of coming from a big family.

If anything else, ya might find a good spot to put a cache, heh. Downtown Dave, you still interested?
I know more about kellogg than I could have ever dreamed to know...and its just a wonderful park to dig in at nite...I might do it every year for the fun of it...
the christmas lights are gorgeous and you don't need a headlamp.
I skim conversations for what I want out of them often I catch myself half listening to someone and thinking - this is all superfluous, then I start listening to the convos around the person who is speaking to me - which nine times out of 10 - if ear jacked correctly are way more entertaining.
I still need to look at it and see how close I was to defining the area...
In fact, with almost no changes whatsoever, we could host several hunts this summer using this exact same set of clues over and over, and justify the puck being at a variety of different parks (some not even having deer). Phalen, Kellogg, Como, (Alice) and others.
It would be interesting to see how many noodles we can/did extract from any one clue..it allows a clue writer to explain the clue with that many options or more...and for that reason, "knowing" the right park (this summer) will be almost impossible, since the park can be changed and be explained away with any of the multiply viable options...
Guess you go with a hunch and dig/look/walk or whatever...but I was thrilled with Kellogg, as it was the one time I was in a park with friends (other than with Wanda and Ian at Phalen)...so Kellogg was my favorite memory of the hunt, and I'd rather hunt in the wrong park with friends than the right park without them!
Everybody with a GPS is welcome to help. Pick a park and have at it.
Done.
rice
got it...
hahahaha
Real life becons again... To tell the truth, I didn't miss it.
I openly share any ideas I have - but I also know I've been in the wrong park plenty of times in my life so if someone else has an idea and they think its correct - go for it. I hope you're right.
The one part (of several) I didn't like in the explanations is the Mason lodge. I was sure it had to be visible - and it was from both Kellogg and Mounds. It was Sunday we figured it was Mounds based on that lodge and a couple other things that I had been going back over - like the runt maybe being Earl and the picnic shelters being tents - and the thought that maybe tents would conjure up thoughts of Indians dwellings. I know I had some other things - but nothing that hadn't been talked about.
Buck = deer?!?!!? Holes, holes, holes and holes in that explanation.
I understand why sometimes people have a hunch and don't want to share. I have always enjoyed the sharing and the noodling together. I love that putting ideas on the table and then trying to pick those that fit the best.
From all that, we seldom if ever would find ourselves in the same park before the clues narrowed things down, because we all have our own minds to do that picking and choosing.
We didn't get out much this year to actually dig with my new job and Inks has a back injury he's going to therapy for now, but if we were out and got ditched - I would be mighty sad and disappointed.
