Parade, Dance, Re-Hash Bash. *That* would be fun.
The entire reason, or how the Bash came to be, was for closure. Not a pity party, but a good-bye, finale, letting go softly and gently of something I didn't want to let go of or see go away. A funeral, kind'a. A way for people to come together that felt the same - let's go back for just one more time in the park. That's why it comes at the end of the Hunt.
I need that closure. The Re-Hash Bash is the closure I need for the year. Certainly I will be able to find another means of closure should the status quo change. Because that's me and I need to do that. Most likely, I'll take a walk around the park or grab something to eat and take with and just spend time in the park.
Personally, I'd not like to see it change. Using Allison's suggestion, in my mind the RHB - and The Cooler Crew - becomes just another segment of the Winter Carnival. The Cooler Crew was never or meant to be a part of the Winter Carnival.
By not having the RHB be the finale would, in my opinion, be removing the fundamental premise for having it and changing the structure and foundation of the culture behind this group.
I got to thinking in the last couple of days reading this thread how if someone becomes a Mason they don't go in and start changing the basics of that organization. They join and they accept.
I think some things of the 'Crew - at least the Re-Hash Bash - are like that. While we are a group and there are no "rules" and we opperate usually on a concensus basis, that should not always be the case. Somethings are givens and shouldn't be messed with. I'm not against evolving but I'm also not for taking on new ideas that to me go against what were and are the fundamental reasons for how and why this group came to be.
When I die do what you want, but until then I would like to see us stay as true to our original beginings as possible.
That makes sense. The last hoorah kind of thing. Nice.
Thanks for clarifying. I always looked at it as a good-bye event anyway.
Even though things are different nowadays with a number of Cooler events throughout the year, this is still the Mack-daddy of the events where most people participate. Closure is good.
How many years did we put up with McGoverns crap just because 10 years ago, a few of our original members liked their open face turkey sandwiches? No, we waited until our hand was forced and it actually turned out awesome.
Having the RHB in a park was kind of the point, having a picnic outside in January was unique and fun. It went with the entire spirit of the Winter Carnival that life goes on even when it gets cold. Last year, it was too cold for anyone to have any fun and essentially our hand was forced to have the RHB indoors and that went well too.
Those are pretty much the only changes we have made over the entire history of the Cooler Crew although each had been brought up years earlier only to get shot down by someone preaching tradition. They both turned out well.
Saturday may or may not work out better, but let's open it up as an option so we can debate the real merits of the matter.
Stepping off my soap box.
understatement
All-in-all, having the RHB itself is the tradition. Just like the PDG. Where, when etc. should be allowed to be tweaked for the times. I understand the closure part but don't know if it outweighs the recommendations brought forth every year either. We still get closure either way.
Anybody else want to chime in that was in that original group in Chair-O-Kee that year? TV? Anyone else?
I think I left after 11 and there were 3 others left
Superbowl is a tradition for most of us as much as rehash and I dont mind rehash on superbowl sunday because of the timing of one bginning at noon and the other by 5, I can do both.
ty
thanks for giving me handwarmers
Im gonna bring some Winter Carnival items that Im too lazy to place on EBAY for a DRAWING as well if there will be one
Regarding the day of the week - I can do either. I'll go which ever way the wind blows. But I like the fact that we are having a discussion about what makes the best sense.
he's also around all year with other city hunts, Golden Ticket, Davids and the AW 24 hour.
I think he has something else going on this Sunday but he always asks where and when things are so just in case he can make it OR pass on the info to others.
I've had a couple people ask me about the rehash and then say they just want to know just in case. And he got the idea of Obbs from me, which he and others expected it to be because it was across from the park and wonderful accomodations execept the potluck. I told him I would call him and another person when I knew forsure. Davids is fine but I agree with the tradition of keeping it IN the park or as close to the park its found in as possible.
I'll be where ever people decide.
I know a handful that meet us in the parks or at mapress and thats the only place they find out about where we meet up

LIKE CM!!! I didn't get to hang out with him that much this year!! and that makes ME MAD!!
the following year the WC organization required us to carry life insurance on our group though and we had to sign up the summer before. So we havnt done it since.
I'm not sure what I'll bring if we come. I might just add to the pot for the room rental now.
j/k CM ~ Had some great laughs with you this hunt!
It was fun hanging out with you. The Pity Party had me rolling at times.
I have one if you want to use it
heH
Maybe I was to drunk!! lol
oh ya Wasn't there some old rusty Drums down by where we where drinking?? I could have swore there was BIG Old 55 Gal. steel drums down there!!
after reading the clues again...nevermind..... :frown:
We have had it always the Sunday after the medallion has been found. A couple years we had it the first Sunday of the actual carnival because the hunt ended early.
My personal preference is the Sunday as it works best for us. Besides some personal things that make Sunday better, it also gives me time to fix whatever I'm bringing to the RHB.
If Saturday ends up being the concensus, that's cool too for next year. I'll just have to rearrange some parts of my life for the day and get organized ahead of time to do any cooking and prepping.
As far as using the Mason Lodge, I do believe there was concensus last year that it was a good idea to have it indoors and we should plan to do that when we can.
If we had ended up at Merriam or Conway again, using the rec center worked out well there as we didn't have to be outdoors and so the food stayed hot.
As I see it, the traditions started were the rehash bash, the predig gig, the cooler crew buttons and hunting.
Historically, we did the rehash bash in the park the medallion was found because no one knew each other and it was a safer public place. It started to be Sundays and so that continued. The idea was to give people some time to do some neglected household and personal chores and then have one last time to put the hunt to rest. Last year the weather turned bitter cold and for everyone's comfort and safety, Allison graciously offered the use of the Lodge.
At that time, many mentioned how nice it was to be indoors and be able to really spend some time visiting. Allison again said that would be fine to use the lodge and folks seemed happy with that.
So one tradition was changed last year.
The predig had always been at McGovern's and the hestitation in changing that was because so many just showed up there every year that wouldn't know where we were otherwise. That was changed this year. Hopefully Matty B's will still be in business next year as that worked out very nicely and I for one am glad for the change.
Another tradition broken this year.
The cooler crew buttons are a tradition. I'm glad no one is griping about those.
So I don't get where anyone thinks making change within this group is so difficult. I have stated my preferences, but no one here is the boss. If people really think Saturday would work better, and there is a concensus, that too will change.
Everything else within this group is very loosely structured. Mock hunts and other get togethers follow their own structure. Not everyone is always able to participate, but I don't hear issues with those traditions.
Change in a large group can be a bit challenging, but for the overall good of the group, those can be made. But like anything related to a large group of people, not everyone will be happy with every change.
Sometimes one just has to accept what is. Not everyone is going to be happy no matter what we do as a group.
the things Im throwing in are pewter winter carnival platers and pins - I dont care how you give them away - do with them how you want. I dont have anything clue related. you're the boss
But the Thing Of it is Yes I know we could always go back to the way it was if it dosnt work out!!
Oh And BY the WAY I LOVE THE BUTTONS EVERY YEAR I HAVE ON FOR!!
that is one thing I would never want to change! and if we are ever running short on money for them and I can Help out let me know!!
Who ever keeps putting the time in to the desine and stuff like that can keep doing it!!
Thanks for donating again this year me2. I remember you gave something nice last year as well. We know who the real boss is

I will agree it's hard to make changes here. That's not any one person or faction's fault though. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. The problem is there is no structure to the group and any decision is usually made by concensus. And since we don't usually have concensus, the default is to stay the course. But even if we had some sort of government and voting procedure, I'm sure major changes would still require a large majority and not be that easy to make. And if we did change it, whose to say we won't end up having to change it again? So I'm ok leaving it at Sunday.
I've mostly avoided these discussions, because I seem to have a hard time putting words together that people understand. Last year I had a fantastic time at the PDG, even after being out all day caching.
For the most part, people make an Event what it is. I have to say that after all those years at McGovern's, the change of venue was due. And you know what? That was one wonderful night. (Lilman ROCKS!)
ReHash Bash? I've probably been to my last one. I think I missed the last two. For me, the day really didn't make much difference. I understand the weather concerns/cold food/etc
It was the outdoors, in THE park, that attracted me. One of "us" finds the medallion, and our hunt-ending celebration is nowhere near the park?
I know I'm in the minority, but you asked, so there it is.
One suggestion: buttons have interest in this group (I think). Have a set price, make a profit, and apply it to the ReHash Bash location fee.

Anyways, it wasn't just the booze, it was the silly antics of the peeps!
