I loved Marley and Me! Now am reading A Good Dog by Jon Katz (book on CD in the car) and Plain Truth (paperback that is keeping me up reading well into the nights lately).

Spur of the moment decisions...

Went to Ashes Swing last night - went straight from work so I wasn't planning on doing to Pub Crawl as I was not dressed to be on the back of a fire truck...

Found out they had buses this year too - so at the last minute I decided to go... had a blast!!

Of course after a few drinks I thought "it's not really that cold out" so I jumped off the bus and went with the Royal Guards on their truck - Fun, but I was cold all night when I got home - took a long time to finally warm up...

1) Going to my boyz (aka Five Am) CD - release party Sat night, and having them pull me up on stage for the encore and sing to me - my favorite song, cause they love me so much.

(note it would have been better, had I not been quite so drunk by this point - I was on the verge of being weepy)

2) Meeting a new friend that night, and making an acquaintance a better friend.

3) 2 goals in 2 games of soccer on Sunday - playing WITH a hang over

4) superbowl parties that rock

Glad to hear you had nice girl time.

The girls and I enjoyed the 3D Hannah Montana flick tonight. Ali couldn't wait to see it. #1 movie in the nation right now (imagine that) Even at $15 a pop it was still pretty good. The Disney 3D imaging sure isn't your parents 3D that's for sure. It worked pretty good and there were many parts where you felt stuff was actually flying out at you. This is a must see for any tween that wasn't able to score tickets to her concert because it really makes you feel as if you're right there on stage. We were singing out loud and clapping towards the end. Just like a real concert. I haven't done that since AC/DC had their first concert movie in theaters. I think the steep price was to account for the shipping of the detectors you need to walk through when entering the theater so people don't steal their glasses. Then they need someone to collect them and wash them before the next showing. I assume most of the extra cost is to just cover overhead with that set up.

There were also great looking previews of two movies being released later this year. Wall-E, the next great Pixar cash cow and Journey to the Center of the Earth. The first all digital 3D motion picture. The preview of that one was enough to blow you away by itself!

I didn't say I was banging my head to HM. I was bouncing around in my seat and singing tho. It was nothing like the AC/DC movie. Oddly enough that was one of my drunkest times ever. I won 4 tickets to the premier of AC/DC Live at the then brand new Cinema and Draft House up north somewhere. All you can eat and drink the entire movie. Our section decided not to take part in the eats. Yikes! They blasted the speakers and we all got hammered and were jumping up and down and carrying on like it was an actual concert! It was the craziest thing I ever seen at a movie theater including Rocky Horror. The whole place was walking out of there like we just seen an excellent concert and were ready to party some more. We were too far gone and had to wait in the parking lot a bit before I could drive anywhere.

That was one of two nights in my life that I know I should have never been behind the wheel even when I was driving. The other was after seeing Tony & Tina's Wedding for the 5th time. I always forget that it's not a real wedding reception and party just a little more than I should. :sheepish:

Anybody know anyone that works for Geek Squad?

I'm trying to get an idea of how well they pay their employees.

found this online:

2005

I am currently working at the Geek Squd. The pay is not bad. 11 dollars and hour to new employees. I really dont know why would you want to leave in four months. Geek Squad has different positions for different certs. You start at the Precint where all you will do is install antivirus and spyware to different computer. Also some upgrading and OS installation. After some experience you can become a Cadet(12-15 an hour), where you go to house to install home networks and troubleshoot. Then you can become a Double Agen(15-22 an hour) where you get a car and is a similar job to a cop. You are driving your car until you get a call from the squad telling you someone needs you. Its pretty cool. And the coolest one is being a Super Agent. You have to be CCNA certified. You get paid 27+ per hour. And you will be doing networks for Big companies. I love the Geek Squad. They are paying for all my college tuition fees. You get a really good insurance. BBY discounts are crazy!. You wont be dissapointed with the Geek Squad.

About 15yrs ago..omg...

The president of their company came to our fraternity house...

At that time they wouldn't hire ANYBODY with PC/MAC knowledge...they wanted to train idiots.

They didn't want anybody with any prior experience at all...

I don't know if that has changed or not.

Mad_Dach5und

I remember having to train my TEACHERS in fourth grade how to use the school's three Commodore PET computers. Many of them didn't even know how to use a cassette deck, much less a cassette deck tape drive on a computer. My parents stuck me in a summer computer class at the Science Museum a couple months before, so that made me the resident genius.

I kinda wish those bragging rights still meant something for my resume today...

Go to the Consumerist and search on Geek Squad and Best Buy. After you read some of that stuff, you probably won't want to work there. What kind of IT job are you looking for?

Hmm.. thanks for the info. That's why it's good to ask questions before you start applying for jobs.

On a bit of a side note, I did find a nice remote access program.

https://secure.logmein.com/

Me2, this is what I was telling you about in the computer questions discussion. It would allow a techie like myself to be able to log into your computer remotely to fix software problems.

And to answer your question leelabell, I'm not exactly sure. Help desk support would be good, but they're shipping most of those jobs overseas because it's more cost effective (not to mention easy to do). That would leave the actual hardware support jobs that require physical presense. That's what I originally was into and trained for anyway. However I'm not current on certifications, and would probably need to get in on an entry level position.

I liked the original premise of Geek Squad when they were a small company. Setting up, fixing, or showing the average user of today's technology products how to make their gadgets do what they wanted them to do.

KC0GRN - Geek Squad is pretty big, and part of Best Buy (my own soap box about that company)... Anyway, was also thinking about Circuit City and thier FireDog crew, perhaps a bit smaller and easier to work in and promote, but no actual idea or experience with them.

Did you ever get in touch with those guys out in Plymouth?

Different Merrill, CM. This Merrill is in St. Paul, near the fairgrounds.

Also, CM, did you see this:

Name That Tower

With its metallic-blue hue and half-circle crown, the skyscraper formerly known as the US Bankcorp Center, now called 225 South Sixth, is one of the most distinctive buildings adorning the Minneapolis skyline. Opened in 1992, it's the second-tallest landmark in the Twin Cities at 56 stories, behind the soaring IDS Center.

But if there's one complaint to levy against the skyscraper, it's that "225 South Sixth" lacks aural elegance.

With that in mind, we're soliciting name ideas from readers. The reader who submits the best moniker before March 1 will be awarded a special prize—most likely the broken nutcracker Macy's sent us for Christmas. Granted, the label will be totally unofficial and likely abandoned when a major corporation buys the naming rights, but it's our hope that the adopted title will be strong enough to catch on and enter the local lexicon.

Things to avoid: incorporating our state's motto into the name, à la the Empire State Building. Too unoriginal. Besides, "Land of 10,000 Lakes Building" doesn't exactly roll off the tongue like butter. Think poetic, like the Space Needle.

So have at it, dear readers. Name that tower. Send your suggestions to letters@citypages.com. —Matt Snyders
