Here's what I sent them LLB

Hello -

I'm a facilities manager for 225 and love your idea for naming our beautiful building. It's rather frustrating directing people to the 'old 1st Bank Place building' all the time when they ask which building we're in. It is kind of funny though when they ask for the address of 225 South Sixth. It happens more than one would think.

I get the best response when I refer to it as either the Halo Building or the Stanley Cup Tower. People usually know what building you're talking about when you use either of those descriptions.

I like numbers myself. Either 225 (address), 776 (height) or Numero Uno (from the way the building looks from 7th st. - photo included) Plus we pride ourselves on being the #1 Class A building in all of Minnesota! And are also described as being the #1 largest and tallest building in Minneapolis beating the IDS by 1 meter until they erected a window washing garage on their roof. A number of building organizations dispute the IDS as being tallest per rules for height designation that doesn't count additions to the original structure. Without the window washing garage, the IDS is 775' and 225 is 776'. My counterpart at the IDS and I usually kid back and forth of who's tallest. But because the IDS is a Minnesota icon, I tend to let it drop before he does.

I look forward to seeing the various names that the public comes up with for this fabulous building that I'm fortunate enough to work in.

You must be younger than me. We had Tandy's and TRS-80's. All we did with them was move the "turtle" around.

Okay... I can do that too...

If you want to do it yourself... here is a tip:

The container the paint comes in typically has a wide brush applicator, like nail polish (so I've heard) :sheepish: , so cut 3/4ths of it off at a steep angle so you don't leave a big slobbery blob where the scratch is.

Our Original PETs didn't even have built-in tape drives - we had to buy external ones.

We didn't get the Apple IIe until High School....Ah, the lovely days of Green-Screen technology!

I got a kick out of seeing this image - please note: It is the 2001 Series!

Key punch machine. I had a summer job at 3M during college where I entered the information on a card that the key punch gals punched into the machine.

And here's what I used in HS.

We didn't get to do the punching itself either, we had to use our #2 pencil to color in each individual number that needed to be read.

That's pretty timely. I just finished reading Larry Millett's book, Sherlock Holmes and the Rune Stone Mystery.

His Sherlock Holmes books are really fun to read. He'll often say things like, "On with the hunt!" in the dialog and it makes me remember he once wrote the clues for the medallion.

Looks like the Univac machine I keypunched on from 1971-1974 - my first full-time job which started 10 days after graduation from high school. I took a keypunch course at Rasmussen School of Business in the spring of senior year, having heard that a person could make the unheard of salary of $500 per month at Burlington Northern. Problem was, BN wasn't hiring and the other keypunch jobs paid far less. In 1974, I went to work for Divine Redeemer Hospital and they had a cardless system, where the census and billing data was transmitted over the phone lines just after midnight every night.

KC, was thinking about you this weekend and discussed your job situation and your skills with my daughter. We talked about how the Geek Squad started out as just a couple of guys who drove around fixing people's computers. Why couldn't you do this too? You don't need to aspire to be as big as Geek Squad, but I bet you could make a pretty good living as a one man operation.

Get yourself bonded and licensed (if you even need a license to do this type of work), slap a magnetic sign on the side of your car and see what happens. You could try this out while you keep your present job to see where it leads. No risk there.

Ode to orange

Orange makes me happy.

Orange is hot, it's brave, it's bold, it's inspired. It's spring sprung.

Orange is Pedro Almodovar movies and expensive pedicures.

Orange is adventure.

Orange is the smell of my bathroom due to the citrusy mist stuff we buy at Trader Joe's.

Orange is edible flowers and ripe persimmons.

Orange is tanned skinned women in Miami with low cut blouses.

Orange is fearless.

yeah. I knew what it was.. but ... what does one do with such things today? it's pretty much just an antique that collects dust and takes up space.

two my my previous jobs - had old time cash registers that you had the buttons like that - and you had to twist the handle ringer thingy on the side to make it crank. way cool.
