Personally, I have a few ideas as to where the puck may be hidden, but because of the fact that the clue writers are probably going to be picking a spot this week, I am going to be keeping those thoughts to myself. If anyone wants to know what I think, e-mail me. But I strongly suspect that the hider(s) frequent this board, which kind of bums me out because I love to talk about the hunt. (As many of you already know) But anyways, i am gonna stick around for a few in case anyone else is here.
Hey there all....looks like everyones shovelfingers are getting a little sticky....Lessee, checklist:
1) Alert...check 2) Senses keen, mind sharp...check 3) Gas tank full...check 4) Warm clothes at the immediate ready...check 5) Utensils, warm and ready to go...check 6) Treasure hunters guide, open...check
...well folks, I think I am ready...Did I forget anything?
By the way, how do those who have posted it, know that the Medallion Hunt starts the 21st? I cant seem to find that official info anywhere...just curious.
Coffee, Shovel Master. Coffee. Keeps you awake, keeps you warm. I would like to add one park to the unlikely list. New sod at Harriet this year--City would probably like to get that established before a good dig. Early runners for me--Kellogg and Mears.
It has come to my attention that I was quite remiss last year in my noodling and subsequent postings and I was about (+/-) 24,000 (or izzit 2,400???) postings short.
I'll do my best to rectify that this year. Yup. Yewbetcha.
Sounds like Allison won't be around till later if at all for the prehunt bash this year. That trivia thing was sooo much fun. Would someone like to take that on this year? Maybe Jake?????
I dunno....I've been checking back on this board for the past 6 months, just waiting for it to heat up. Nothing to do now, but wait. The next week and a half is gonna be the hardest!
Mears is on my parks with "issues" list. The issues being that its so small, no parking, and has all those lights and power cords running through it. Plus, with Rice Park under construction, I wonder if they will move some of the events like the ice sculpting there? Kellogg has some lights, but isn't quite the electrical hazard to people wielding metal implements that Mears is.
You had a problem with Cops at Conway??? Thats amazing, I was there early in the hunt that year and one late night I watched a squad pull into the lot, then from the lot the squad proceeded to come down the path that cuts through the center of the park (which, incidentally, I was digging next to)...I thought to myself "oh,oh...what now?" Next thing I knew they were playing music for us diggers through their loudspeaker and wishing us all good luck...It was one of the very few good experiences I have ever had with the pi....uh, I mean Police.
Terry- I have already started working on some things for the pre-hunt drunkfest. (I AM kidding for those paying attention) We are going to play "Medallion hunt JEOPARDY" If that sounds ok with everyone!!! Questions WILL be diobalically difficult, so do your homework!!!!!
the question is, will harriet be considered? its been 5 years, and its all new this year. do they want people to come see the new park? or do they want to keep people as distructive as treasure hunters away?
the truths i hold to be self evident are A.they will NEVER go back to mounds (natives got angry) B.they dont want to anger malplewood, meaning phalen and beaver are lese likly C.Kellog is full of lights, and whatnot. no hunting for their D.and of course, i have theries
my faves this year, hmm, i like highland for next year. this year, um, hidden is an ol favorite (but bad on parking, and land, and dangerious), marydale not good either. langford, and irvine possible, but the idea of irvine scares me. no opinions on capitol mall yet from my family
I think we need to be looking for a BIG park this year. Not necessarily as big as Como, etc. but it's got to be bigger than Mears. We're talking 50th year here - they're gonna want to accomodate a LOT of hunters if need be.
There's always the same old arguments against Phalen and Mounds, but I think that they are both good candidates for this year. Don't forget Battle Creek (which also is partly in Maplewood).
I may as well tell them at work just to not pay me for the next month or so - my mind will be elsewhere, increasingly so as the days go on....
I don't buy the same old arguments for Phalen and Mounds either. I think both are good candidates for this year's hunt.
I also have thought about the possibility that they would go back to the first hiding place from 1952.
We - Inks and I - have been thinking that the Snoopy statues might find their way into a clue or two this year. They were such a big thing in the city this past year.
But for now it's all just speculation. The clues will tell the story.
lets see 50th anniversary, I'd say that it very well could be right back where they started from. I've had my eyes peered out the window overlooking Mears for the last month and I don't have anything to report from there. I like the Capital Mall this year due to the election fracas this past November, I also like Highland this year (kinda having dreams about crappy pun clues like "you ought to hum here")
Good idea with the Snoopy Statues, that certainly could come into play, does anyone have a list of where all the outdoor ones are currently, or where they were originally?
Doing a little research here I don't think Phalen is a problem just because it goes into Maplewood. As far as I can tell, even though its partially in Maplewood, its entirely a St. Paul park, meaning Maplewood doesn't have to maintain it and thus wouldn't have a reason for a lawsuit if it was there. Locking the gates at night still bothers me but I suppose if a lot of people were around they might not. Still I'm leaving it at #9. As for Battle Creek, I believe that is a regional park, not a city one. So again, even though its in Maplewood, I don't believe Maplewood has jurisdiction over it. I was talking to someone last night though and he seemed to think it would never be at the Capitol again because there is too much possible damage to all the hedges, so I think I may move that one down a bit on my list. Hidden Falls and Highland are still my favorites.
As for Capitol Mall,Allison,I think with the current Jesse regime it would be a great possibility. Can't you just imagine all the more publicity he would get??? And I don't think he cares about the hedges!!
Mom, can you get the Cooler Mobile again this year? I know some folks that could really make good use o'it - besides us. See, I'm working on some bribery/black mail... And I *need* the Cooler Mobile. And it would be featured in the Doc-U-Men-Ta-Ree!
And I'm with you. For the next three weeks, I doubt if I'll be doing much besides living The Hunt.
Later, gators. I need to try and get something done here!
Since Jesse seems to be using his public office for private gain, I don't see why you can't make the argument that the governor's private residence is public property, so off to the governor's mansion!
Ye gads! This weather keeps up, I'm going to be hunting in The Fish Bra...
Allison, isn't it public property because it's not Jessie's, but belongs to The People o'Minnesota (said with hand over heart)?
The Med's going to be hidden in a brown paper bag. It'll be dropped by a person disguised as a wino... There's not going to be any snow left in two weeks.
Terry V, I agree with you.(as I usually do) The snoopy theme may play some part in this years clues. thats why I think it will be taped to a snoopy dog dish....or maybee inside a snoopy doll.....
Its hard to tell just by looking at the list of past hiding places, but has the hiding place or the item it was attached to ever actually had anything to do with anything? There was the clue last year (?) that referred to grieving over the Vikings but beyond that I can't say I personally recall there ever being any sort of theme to the clues or hiding place that tied in with current events.
They were at Midnight last year too if you remember....I know a whole big fuss was started about the midnight thing before...by me, I think. Anyway, I love the Snoopy thing. H...I know where most of the Snoopys were, so that could work to our advantage. Please, please, Boreas...let the cold and snow engulf...we need winter back...where is it oh great King? If this crappy weather pattern of late continues, they may have to rename it the Vulcan Carnival...gads!
Personally, I have a few ideas as to where the puck may be hidden, but because of the fact that the clue writers are probably going to be picking a spot this week, I am going to be keeping those thoughts to myself. Marley and the team are back in town. HI to everyone.

Lettuce see... 50 years?
Would nostalgia EVER overwelm (do we have a spell check on here YET?) the rotten Cluers?
One wonders...
H-E-L-L-O.......Is it time yet????!!
Ooooooooo.......the troops gather! Medallion fever is reaching a screaming pitch!
It has come to my attention that I was quite remiss last year in my noodling and subsequent postings and I was about (+/-) 24,000 (or izzit 2,400???) postings short.

Forget the number thing green...it doesn't fit!

SHEESH! I can remember you riding my butt for getting things going around Halloween!
I'd'a been here sooner but I've been busy (said with a distainful, hoity-toity sniff).
CRAP!
Nice JOE!, Terry... (grumbling)
Well, there is a time and place for everything...and Halloween is too early for medallion fever. Too long of a wait for a medallion fix.
Still... I do have a nice pair...
Speak fur yurself, John Alden.
I dunno....I've been checking back on this board for the past 6 months, just waiting for it to heat up. Nothing to do now, but wait. The next week and a half is gonna be the hardest!
I was dreaming about noodling clues last night. It's getting bad already.
I gots to go, Love. Gotta subQ Hattie with fluids.
Did Inks make my Garlic/Basil/Four Hour Chicken for din? LOL!
Looking forward to seeing you two. How are my roses I gave him doing?
Love, me
Dreaming o'muff(s) yet?

AH! And ANOTHER pair!
You gotta love it!
Nite, Ter. See you tomorrow!
Night! SCDs!!!!

Parking didn't hinder Chair-O-Key...
And the cops were a HELL (can I type that?) of a LOT NICER than at Conway... Where *I* got a parking ticket! Knuckleheads!
Gotta run. NEED my beauty sleep. LOL!!!
SCD's Allison!
Leave the light on for Ian... And Ittiz... In case they should stop by tonite. And make some strong coffee - Ian'll be wanting some.
Huggers and catch you later!!!

and of course, como is full of all the events :(
Well guys, for what it's worth (my 2 cents)....
I think we need to be looking for a BIG park this year. Not necessarily as big as Como, etc. but it's got to be bigger than Mears. We're talking 50th year here - they're gonna want to accomodate a LOT of hunters if need be.

I've already checked the location from 1952, it's not there . . . . yet?

Hello! New Daddy - I agree...those are definate possibilities of hiding attire for the medallion.
Has anyone else noticed the link at the top of this page?
It says the clues will be updated here at Midnight!!! I thought 11:30 was bad enough!!!
They were at Midnight last year too if you remember....I know a whole big fuss was started about the midnight thing before...by me, I think. Anyway, I love the Snoopy thing. Not now it doesn't, Ter...
And they have a link to our site!!!
I wish they'd do a new one... Like, "PioneerPress Medallion Hunt 2001." These that go on for a year make it somehow a bit less specialer to me.
I've talked to a friend at work to see if he'll do the honors with a camera on the 20th sos that nun o'us gotta. He's balking... "I'm not qualified!"
"Like any of *us* are???"
I've sic'ed Trent on him, hoping a little producerly purrsuasion will do the trick. Keep your paws x-ed...
have no fear, tim_the_hunter is here!!!!!!!!
