1998 Pioneer Press Medallion Hunt

Submitted by Casey Trauer on

Hunt for the Pioneer Press medallion!

The Pioneer Press medallion has been found. Details are at our Winter Carnival page.

The hunt's over, but the discussion rages on ...

I was out tonight at Mounds and could only see the Capitol dome. It was dark and foggy so maybe you can see both. If looking downtown from MOunds, the Capitol dome is a major feature on the skyline. In regards to an earlier post about the big 1, nice theory but it requires reading alot into the clue.

So now we know what the clue is - any ideas as to what it means???

Maybe the FIRST refers to First Bank - and you can see city streets from Mounds!!!!!!

Maybe "THE DADDY" or whatever his name was from way back was right, the thing's in a CAN? How did someone come up with a Campell's Soup can earlier?

Nimrod, I was referring to Prospect and Cherokee.

I go to church with a lady whose father used to hide the Medallion. She used to tell us that they would hide the Medallion 1-2 weeks beforehand. I'm not sure, though.

If that's true, they may hide it in the snow for those who think it's hidden long before hand

city streets may refer to urban pl. or mounds blvd. I think the clues are still pointing us to the park. we need some clues to pinpoint where in the park.

It seems to me the jury is still out on the demo-mode / mother lode issue? The only thing I seel relevant the connecting Mother to Mary to the old Hospital. But whats the demo? We're gonna kick ourselves.

I may be way out there but isn't a college education immeasurable. There is also a rec center there, good sleding hills, and I still think that rosebud refers to the container it is in. I also think you can see the space needle thing from the state fair from there. Anyone using this info can just mail me half...:>

Demo and mode are anagram words and another word that can come from that is "dome". You can see the capitol dome from Mounds. Also, Mounds Park has two streets by it, "Suburban Ave." and "Urban Pl."

It seems to me the Uban-Suburban may be a little far-fetched. Of course, BURNS also fits there! Don't get me wrong, I'm sure its at Mounds. Its just not giving us anything more specific inside Mounds. None of those 3 streets intersect. Urban is actually a few blocks away according to my map. But come to think of it, there is a thin stretch btwn the road and the cliff. I think 'place to play' is specific to a playground or sled hill

Looks like the Water Cooler is all mine...I think I'll try something fancy: blue text is fancy. That was pleasurable. Big text...hmmm, immeasurable.

See, the fancy stuff isn't so hard to do, so let's center more on deciphering clues than on showing each other up. The occassional bold or color can be helpful to draw attention to something, but there's no need to splatter our senses. Back to the latest clue: I think this is the typical "so you think you know where it is" clue that falls near the end of the first week. Sure, there's some strong, descriptive words to dig apart here, but I think it's a stall tactic. They have "place to play" kinds of clues every year. "City streets" is key because "they" (plural) will show you the way. "Suburban Ave." and "Urban Pl." are a better interpretation than anyone's giving credit for at this wee hour (way to go Tom). I'm also beginning to think Thorn Street is a nice idea for "Rosebud." Sure, the clue probably has something to do with the movie, but clues have been known to have double meanings. Take care all. Seeya' when it's light out.

HEY TREASURE HUNTERS!

Mounds Park seems to be the early choice of everyone....and not a bad choice based on the given clues.

By the way it's not attached to a rose container...How do I know you ask? Because I have held the coveted prize and watched as people frantically dug and scraped hoping to find it unknowing that it had been found...it's to big to fit in a rose holder, it's a little bigger then a rosebud.

Proud To Say : Have you found the treasure in the past?

"Yep, Been there done that!"

Now only to do it again!

Maybe i'm on crack, but the last two years they have used the second clue to describe what the "med" i in. I think high ground may refer to mountain grown. just a thought
