Way funny pictures. But you're right, cat's don't need baths unless they're sprayed by skunks. :ooh:

I think if you more than five votes out of this forum, then you'll probably win - there must be close to 3000 pet entries in that contest! Did EVERYONE submit a photo? I guess Merlin will have to wait until next year.

I just saw something on the news about a web page service that tracks your lost pets with a chip and it gave me an idea. (that I'll never follow through on, but maybe Joel or someone could make it work)

The idea is to just have a web page (www.lostpets.com?) and all it is is a database with a google map to show the locations of lost pets with contact info. Anyone could report the lost animal and make a point on the map. Then charge people to "find" their pet by looking it up on the map. Or maybe even do it free if you could get advertising on the site to pay the bills. Seems like a brilliant idea. (Is there already a site like this?) Could work similar to google maps on the geocaching site, exept intead of looking up the locations of caches, you look up the lost pets in the area.

~edit~ nevermind. Guess its been done.

People who have racing pigeons have a site like that. Remember when I found the banded pigeon in my yard last summer? I found a web site that matched up people who had missing pigeons with the person who found one.

I got some really bad news today.....

I've been sick on and off with this flu like thing for 3 days now...

My dog has had the same like symptoms for a while now...and been loosing a ton of weight.

well...she went to the vet today...

she has diabetes...at first I was thinking it would not be an major issue and we would just put her on the meds....

oh boy...I didn't realize the cost involve...as I would be looking at about 450 for first 6 months..and than about 150 month after that....

plus other major issues that have developed and will develop.

:frown:

so tonight had to sit down as a family and make some really hard choices and explain them all to my daughters...

2mrw is going to suck :frown:

I don't know all the details yet as to how this will go down..but its a sucky situation no matter what.

As much as we complain about medical costs for humans, meds for pets is really ridiculous. I have a hard time justifying pills that cost more than MY health insurance for my dog.

What year/make/model of doggie do you have?

Hopefully the girls are old enough to understand why she's sick and what might happen.

Just do me a favor - don't keep the animal alive if it is truly suffering - I've seen several relatives pump their dogs full of steroids and other pain medications to prolong their life for a couple of months, when you can see in their eyes that they are just miserable. As much as I love my dog, there's no way I'm going to prolong its agony because it's hard to say goodbye.

I brought her in today...made a hard choice...

I feel a little guilty as it would have been o.k. to keep her on the insulin.

Agreed.

Are the girls old/responsible enough to take care of a new puppy?

My parents had to make that hard choice about two years ago - they live out in the country where a dog is almost a requirement to keep varmints away. Now they feel they are too old to manage/train a new dog, so the doghouse just sits out back, empty.

My Dad keeps talking about pheasant hunting, though - I think he misses it and wants a dog to go hunting again. He's 68 now, so I dunno....

Kitch - Hugs to you and yours. Those are tough decisions to make, but quality of life and the cost of trying to obtain and maintain a decent quality of life for our furry friends add up the decision you had to make.

Hi Kitch, I don't know you that well, but I wanted to say how sorry I am for your loss. There is nothing more difficult than putting a pet down in my opinon...when you get time, google search for the poem "A Rainbow Bridge" - it is one of the most comforting things ever written, I hope you & your family can find peace. Take care.
