Sort of. I'm learning a bit about laser power classes. Apparently a IIIb is anywhere in the range of 10-500mW (much more hazardous to use though as you can damage your eyes). A lot of hobbyists are taking the diodes out of DVD writable drives and using them to cut holes in plasic and the like. It's basically parlor tricks though...

Nah. I do seem to remember learning a bit about lasers back in physics class in high school. I think they use them for making holograms...

Bingo that was the location!! Plate was stuck on the bus, just below the little billboard thingy. It even had expired tabs, which was part of the hint. Very cool location, sat signal sucked down there by the buildings, but it was cool.

It that video is from that public TV concert Urban did a few years ago?

I watched that 'live' - probably about 3-6 months before Urban's "star" really took off. I'm kinda glad I stayed at home that Saturday night...

I always love steel guitar music...

Becoming a new uncle once again. Baby Kai is going to be the last born on my side of the family. Everybody is fixed now except me and that's only a matter of time. Cute kid. I was glad to remember that hospitals do yield some good times and not all bad. My faith in doctors is coming back little by little.

Cliff effect
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In telecommunications, the cliff effect or digital cliff describes the sudden loss of digital signal reception. Unlike analog signals, which gradually fade when signal strength decreases or electromagnetic interference or multipath increases, a digital signal provides data which is either perfect or non-existent at the receiving end. It is named for a graph (shown below) of reception quality versus signal quality, where the digital signal "falls off a cliff" instead of having a gradual rolloff.

This is what Comcast says, so I'm just going to sit back and see if I have a signal come Feb. 17th. This is from the link I posted up-thread.

Q I have cable TV. Do I need to get a converter box in order to keep watching TV after the digital switch on Feb. 17?

A Not if your cable provider gives you all the local channels you want, as Comcast does with its basic-cable service. You should have everything you need, now and after next year's digital switch-over, without resorting to over-the-air digital gear or any other new equipment.

Q Wait a sec: I posed this very question to Comcast, and they told me I needed to upgrade my service or equipment.

A I also posed this question to a Comcast spokesman, who responded in writing: 'Comcast customers don't have to do anything to continue to receive service after the digital transition, no matter what level of service they have or how their TV is connected to our network. Whether you have digital or analog service from Comcast, you're all set.'

now theres the difference between men talking about technical stuff and women - I understood everything you wrote - heh!
Mon, 03/10/2008 - 7:36 PM Permalink
Eags

Thanks, OT! And I hear ya, me2 - the technical explanations go over my head sometimes.

Today I went to order my vanity top. I have a decision to make regarding how they will make the sidesplashes and whether to have them attach them or not. Due to my walls being out of plumb, my contractor and I had already decided not to do the attached sidesplashes. But then there are two ways to do the "loose" sidesplashes, which the bathroom designer had to explain to me a zillion times before I understood it enough so I can explain it to my contractor, so he can tell me which one to order. Ugh. I will be so relieved when that sucker is installed and the for sale sign is up!!!
