In response to Clinton not acknowledging Obama,s sweep yesterday, it's been the topic of discussion on all three cable new networks today. In the world of politics, apparently its good form to congratulate your opponent and then move on. A couple of the pundits actually said they've never seen that happen before.

I think that this is Hillary's weakness right now. She disregards the states and demographics that she's losing the votes of and that's not sitting well with some. I read where she won every demographic in VA and could have the same result in PA and OH.

If she loses this nomination I think she has Bill to thank for his ill-timed comments after Obama won SC, comparing him to Jesse Jackson.

Gotcha

I just don't remember Obama saying anything to Hillary after Super Tuesday. I just remember him saying that it was a win for him as well.

It would make sense to congratulate your opponent I guess because you might be pulling for them in a few months anyway and it could help your party to not show any infighting.

I just don't see it happen in any other arena where someone gets jumped on for not saying congratulations after they lose.

Obama has upper hand

WASHINGTON - The Democratic nomination is now Barack Obama's to lose.

After 10 consecutive defeats — including a heartbreaker in tailor-made Wisconsin on Tuesday — Hillary Rodham Clinton can't win the nomination unless Obama makes a major mistake or her allies reveal something damaging about the Illinois senator's background. Don't count her out quite yet, but Wisconsin revealed deep and destructive fractures in the Clinton coalition.

It's panic-button time.....

BRIDGES AND ROADS AND TRAINS, OH MY!

Saturday, February 23, 2008

The so called conservative revolution is dead.

Politicians now raid the treasury for shiny things because voters like shiny things, and donÂ’t mind paying a little more for them. Political labels mean nothing; the man or woman who wants power promises shiny things.

The Minnesota Legislature is set to raise the gas tax, add a metro wide sales tax and propose another constitutional amendment to permanently add yet another tax "for wildlife and arts." These are this seasonÂ’s shiny things. No one has bothered to ask, nor report, how much is currently spent on roads and bridges alone, and what would be available for those projects if thatÂ’s all we spent on for a time.

Everyone else has their hand out though, from the University of Minnesota to the rich sports team owners, the ethanol farmers, the schools, the parks, the bikers, the green collar workers, the unions, bus riders and train lovers.

The party that controls the legislature – The Democrat-Farm-Labor party – will raise taxes to show its people they can bring the shiny things. They want people to know they’re the party that will fix the roads and bridges and the schools, end poverty, save sub primers from the evil mortgage banks, fund the food shelves, provide medical insurance, end homelessness, stop global warming, stop the smokers from polluting the air at the local pub, and make fat people stop eating. Soon all these problems will be a thing of the past thanks to the Minnesota legislature, republicans and democrat alike, and the magic solutions provided by government.

The DFL, and the Republicans who vote with them, deserve credit. They pulled every trick in the book. They used the fear and pity of the bridge collapse, and class warfare to convince voters this has to be done. They ground away at the opposition with studies and condemnations and they convinced even the businessmen of their cause, without any intelligent opposition. Without support, people who would have stood fast, jumped onto the bandwagon. What the hell, right?

Even the chief business institution in this state – the Minnesota Chamber of Commerce – has been bamboozled. The chamber says we have to compromise, accept the long term debt and continuing costs of an ever expanding and very expensive commuter and light rail system we call "transit"; with dubious benefits to the state.

People, "transit" is a union controlled beast which will always be voraciously hungry for every possible tax dollar. (By the way, you "independent" voters should remember it was the independent Governor Turnbuckle, birthed the beast.) But, the so called conservatives are telling us this is the only way weÂ’re going to get the highway system necessary to grow the economy, right? Compromise means giving up.

And, where is the opposition? Well, I think theyÂ’ll probably wait until the bill has been passed, vetoed and overridden and then theyÂ’ll whine and moan about how terrible the politicians are. They might take some time to go down to the capitol with a pathetic home made sign to "strike a blow" but it wonÂ’t matter.

Yesterday I went off the rails on the show about this. So people are sending emails asking what they can do. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but having a Boston Tea Party now will do nothing because the crooks in Saint Paul know thereÂ’s no organization, no power behind it.

Let me give you an example; do you think of union workers as blue collar laborers? Most people do, but a majority of the union members in this country and the state work for the government. The unions are organized, involved, informed, and they donÂ’t vote republican. They enjoy generally higher pay and better benefits than the people who foot the bill; the taxpayers. If youÂ’re a state representative or state senator, who are you going to listen to?

I keep hearing that "conservatives" are superior to the "liberals". Some talk show host said that once, and people that call themselves conservatives keep repeating it, except itÂ’s not true. These days itÂ’s the conservatives that sit in their garages, stroke their chins, and do nothing.

Conservatives think they are so superior to the liberal itÂ’s no longer necessary to talk to their neighbors, or engage in political discussion, or organize. WhatÂ’s the point? A person of such superior intellect knows itÂ’s impossible to convince the poor emotional beasts of the left on any point, so why do any work, right? ThereÂ’s always a sick brother or an aunt who needs a ride, or some other excuse. We all know liberals never have those kinds of problems and they donÂ’t work, so thatÂ’s why they have all this time to protest. Except thatÂ’s wrong. They have the same problems you do, but they seem to find the time to organize, deliver contributions and votes. You know what else; liberals are the ones that know the details on the issues and make the arguments.

The sad truth is "conservatives" these day

are disconnected, isolated, unorganized and frankly, not very smart. They donÂ’t know the issues, they donÂ’t know their representatives, and they donÂ’t know their neighbors. The "conservatives" have left organizing to the evangelicals. In the end, "conservative" means nothing. In the end, the legislators donÂ’t listen to you, because you donÂ’t give them a reason to. Conservatives are impatient, impudent, and out of their depth at almost every turn, and itÂ’s always someone elseÂ’s fault.

For example, a caller yesterday thought if he sent letters to Congresswoman Bachman and Senator Norm Coleman they would do something about the train but the transportation bill is in the Minnesota legislature. "Who is your state representative", I asked. There was only silence in reply. He wants a medal for going to the caucus. I talk to people everyday who are outraged about tax increases but they didnÂ’t vote in the last election. They complain about "these politicians" but donÂ’t know who their state representatives are.

WeÂ’re going to learn again why high taxes are bad for economic performance, and how big government steals our wealth and our freedom. WeÂ’re going to learn how big government solutions donÂ’t solve problems but leach out the lifeblood of the individual; productivity. WeÂ’re going to learn because socialists have the power. They have the power because they worked for it. They didnÂ’t sit in the garage.

When we know the how and the why, and the in and the out of these issues, we can start again talking to family, friends and neighbors. People who really want to do something must learn specifics; legal arguments, how to organize so that we can control the legislatures again. These are lessons that have been forgotten because for too long so called conservatives have been content to do what they think is "the thinking", while someone else did the work.

Politicians are not stupid. They do not respond to, nor fear, feckless protests. Politicians respond to voters who know the names and addresses and phone numbers of their neighbors and legislators by heart. They respond to voters who can count noses and deliver cash contributions, or rustle up a hundred people to show up at the state senatorÂ’s event, on demand. They listen to voters who know the issues inside and out, are organizers and can deliver big tranches of votes in their precincts come Election Day.

Can you do that?

Until you can do these things, no politician will listen to you because youÂ’re invisible to them.

When you can, theyÂ’ll be calling you.

This is not easy to say. ThereÂ’s no way to soften the truth.

ThereÂ’s still time before November to learn how, do some work, and make it happen.

In the end, itÂ’s not the media, video games and itÂ’s not the education system. ItÂ’s not talk radio, the Tribune, dumb people, mysterious conspiracies or the lack of protests.

The answer is right there in the mirror.

All Aboard!

Clinton Pressed on Supporters Words

The interviewer asked Clinton whether she rejected or denounced Callejo's comment.

"People have every reason to express their opinions, I just don't agree with that," she said, adding "You know, this is a free country. People get to express their opinions."

What a hypocrite. Hillary's new commercial is a scare tactic. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M70emIFxETs

October 2004: "One of Clinton's laws of politics is, if one candidate is trying to scare you, and the other one is trying to make you think, if one candidate's appealing to your fears, and the other one's appealing to your hopes. You better vote for the person who wants you to think and hope." - Bill Clinton

http://minnesota.publicradio.org/display/web/2008/03/04/greens/

St. Paul, Minn. — Unlike Minnesota Republicans and Democrats, the Green Party did not move up its caucuses by a month.

And unlike the Democrats, Republicans and the Independence parties, the Green Party is no longer recognized by the state as a major party.

State Green Party caucus coordinator Becky Smith said caucus attendees will weigh-in on Green party presidential candidates with a straw poll. She said they will also begin updating the party's platform.

"In the past we've had our animal rights and our feminism platforms for instance. We've also worked on some universal health care for our platforms. We usually have about 200 different platform submissions," Smith said.

Smith said Green Party caucus meetings will take place in about half of Minnesota's 67 Senate districts.

I didn't realize she said it before. I tend to agree as far as Obama goes but not so much with Jesse. There have been a number of old white guys promising change over the years. Some even had some decent ideas to back up their statement. I read a few quotes from some Obama speeches and pictured an old white guy saying them and didn't see much difference. Which confuses me since the old white guys who were promising change didn't do even half as good as Obama is. Granted, personality is pretty big when it comes to a successful campaign. But the message isn't that different. I just think that there may be a major hidden voter out there named white guilt.

I've worked among all races my whole career so I feel I can see it in others and used to see it in myself. Who among us hasn't nodded to a black guy when passing him in the hall but will not even take a second glance at a white guy?

Stepping off soap box now

so are you saying that maybe my vote could be a vote for my guilt??

are you saying that maybe people are subconsciously voting for him to just say "fine" your race will get a turn now??

interesting view....

personally I think its because he told his voters to show up early....I know I saw where Clinton did this in Texas and it worked...the ad's in spanish told them to show up 15 mins. earlier...just because they knew they'd show up late if didn't tell them to go early...

Everyone has their own reason for voting the way they do. I'm just pointing out an alternative reasoning of one of the many reasons why he may be doing so well compared to others who've said the same things in the past with limited results. There are tons of reasons why he's doing so well. Heck, I even like the guy. It was just nice to see Ferrarro point out something that most people find as taboo to talk about. I'm not a big fan of hers, I just appreciated her voicing her opinion when she knows she's going to get hit for it.
