Terry

Sometime after nine would be okay...like maybe 9:30 or after. I have 50 folks coming for a training that night...and hopefully I won't have to wait with any of them while their rides come for them...but that would be unusual.

Tim*, you're starting to think too much like me! LOL!!!

Have food, will be there!

I actually scheduled that training early in the hunt - figuring on doing some scouting in parks after that.

I love the cameras already, and the camera loves me, naturally!!!! LOL!!!!

I think they're going to be there for quite sometime, Tim* At least an hour or so. Be sure to bring your agent... :D

I won't worry - but they may have to meet up with me some other time.

Tim - I think your mom or dad would qualify as your "agent". Hehehehehe

Again, these are not the ONLY times for interviews or filming. Just times and places they've requested we be if at all possible. They want to get as much interviewing outta the way early on as once The Hunt's well a foot, they'll be chasing after Diggers hot on the trail o'The Med!

Wouldn't it just be la creme de le creme if one o'us found it this year???????

Gods. What I wouldn't give. To have that captured on film.

Ter, you find any muffs, PLEASE do NOT toss them bock!!!!

Nice Joe Gre. NOte: I'm too lazy to type green.

The good news is that it's never been found in the exact same thing twice - so earmuffs shouldn't even enter into the equation.

Sat, 01/13/2001 - 10:26 PM Permalink
tim_the_hunter

Hmmmmmmmmmm, I still am not going to put ANY earmuffs back!!!!

Good idea, Tim!

I'm heading for the sheets. No sense in being sleep deprived yet. There is plenty of time for that.

Speak for yourself, Terry! I don't mind being sleep deprived during the week - I need to work on getting even *less* sleep. Wonder if I'll still be able to keep my eyes open for the whole drive to work....

A few thoughts for you Green. 1. The downtown library branch is currently closed for remodeling. 2. As Suggested before, Warner road coming into downtown is pretty sunset wise. 3. Sunrise could be caught nicely at the small park at the junction of Rasmey Hill and Summit. 4. Just to the east of the capitol in the state parking lot, there is a cool overlook to St. Paul facing east. 5. Another cool sunrise would be that small park on the river side of Miss. Blvd across from the Seminary. 6. Off higway 61, just south of Warner is another cool overlook. 7. Mounds park has a couple of overlooks. 8. If you have connections at 1st Bank, or just beg, the roof of the first bank building is very flat and provides the best view of the city. I used to maintain the antennas up there, but I don't have any more pull. Good luck.

Now that's a NEAT Joe!, DDave! 3-6-9...

I'd thought from the top o'some building would be neat, but had no idea *which* building. I'm glad ittiz them and not me... There is NO WAY I'd go up there! I can't go past the tree line w/o turning to Jello! The First Bank building would be ssssoooo meaningful! GREAT idea!

Your neat ideas for sunrise/sunset footage have been duly recorded. Thanks much!

Can you help anymore with the signs idea? The 3M tape may be just the ticket, but would it work with paper? Is paper a good idea? Should something else be used instead?

Well, bock to a warm bed with Pickles and The Kids. The Cheez-Its were nummy (yawn).

SCDs to all!

I don't think all the shoots would have to include some sort of natural, scenic type beauty. We are an urban center after all, we don't need to look like we're a small prairie town. A shot in front of landmark center, by the big lit up tree in front of the St. Paul Co., the ground floor of the Lawson building on Wabasha has some huge windows that are draped with lights. While its nice to have scenic beauty, it seems to me you're getting away from the "truth" of the documentary if you start shooting places people never go. If you want the person watching the movie to get a sense of what we experience as hunters, it seems they should be a part of the same environment, even if its just a background shot. So a shot inside McGovern's would be good. By the ice sculptures in Rice Park (which personally I'd be surprised if they had any of them there with the construction going on in the park, as the whole park is fenced off. I think most of it will be on Ecolab plaza). A shot with the snow slide or ice maze in the background might not be picturesque, but it would show what the Winter Carnival is about. So would a shot in front of the snow sculptures.

If they need bright places at night, maybe it would be best to stay indoors. A lot of my memories involve sitting here at my computer. Thus a shot of someone in their home with their computer in the background, while again not picturesque, would be entirely appropriate to giving the viewer a sense of the environment we operate in. I also remember after hours of hunting, taking a break to eat and going for food. So a shot in somewhere like The Tuscany Grill or Perkins would also be appropriate (though probably easier in the case of the first option).

So I can't see shooting somewhere like the top of a building, since none of us ever go to the tops of buildings in our hunting, and thus such a location wouldn't resonate any of that hunting energy. How much more excited would you be to talk about your experiences if you were under the pavilions of Cherokee, or by the hockey rinks of Conway, or the firepit of Newell? It seems to me those are the best places to talk to people because then they can't help but become immersed in the spirit of what they're being interviewed about.

Good Morning!

Snowing up north here today and ittiz beautifuller!

I think getting some overviews of the city would be great. I'm sure there will be plenty of down and digging type shots. I often think, as I first start noodling clues, as the city as a whole and which direction to go. I don't think we need to worry that we'll come off as some prairie town.

Green--Negative on the paper. Plastic would stick better, and would be rain and snow proof. Keep the plastic light. Put baffles in it to allow wind to pass through. Or, here's a thought. Use that foam poster board stuff they sell at art supply stores, and put MAGNETS on the back. That way you will have minimal car damage--a little electrical tape on the back of the magnet helps prevent scratches--and you can be "on duty" and "off duty" as much as you need to. Just some thoughts from my long ago high school days in Lake Wobegone.

This wet slop that's outside is gonna make for one *miserable* dig!

Thanks for the ideas/suggestions, Allison!

Howdy, Wookie!

DDave... One prob: there can be *no* damage/scratchs as the CC Mobile is on loan to us. What about just plain white sheets, tied on with rope? Then what would we use to write with that wouldn't run in the rain/snow?

And if plastic's used, what could we write with that wouldn't smear off?

As far as "on" and "off" duty, whatever's put on there has got to be able to stay on when "on duty" as we go tooling around town! Can't be a'flappin' in the *breeze* when we go barreling like a bat outta h$ll after The Med.

MJ, I got your Rooster Sauce today!

Joe!!!

Hey Gre! How is you?

tim_the_hunter

If the rumor is true that the clues aren't coming out on the net till' 12, it'll be good footage to get all the people at the PP, and then all rushing to the park. Also, maybe the crew should use a bit more 'teamwork' with the clues this year, not only does it make good movieage, but it'll improve our chances too!

Sun, 01/14/2001 - 7:53 PM Permalink
'mom'

Green - don't worry too much on the Cooler-mobile stuff. We can maybe just stick some signs on the side windows from the *inside*....won't need those windows for visibility driving, and then stick one in the back when parked.

Just an idea.

tim_the_hunter

What type of mobile are you guys gonna borrow?

Sun, 01/14/2001 - 8:00 PM Permalink
'mom'

It's a small Winnebago - on a VW chassis. It's called a Rialta.

Sun, 01/14/2001 - 8:00 PM Permalink
tim_the_hunter

Coolio! So you guys have volunteered to hall the film crew around?

Sun, 01/14/2001 - 8:03 PM Permalink
Downtown Dave

If the crew desires, I will call in a couple of clues early--I live 2 blocks from paper. Someone will have to be willing to transcribe for cooler crew members--I have a cell phone. Can't use wirless laptop, 'cause there just isn't room in lobby of paper to setup. We can probably wait until crucial clues become available--just let me know.

Sun, 01/14/2001 - 8:09 PM Permalink
tim_the_hunter

COOL dave. that would be cool, I will transcribe.

tim* suggests we should use more teamwork. Ah, if only it were that easy. First you have to get everyone to agree on how to interpret the clues.

so after we find it this year? we each get a doller of the 10k, since theirs so many of us right?

UPDATE on the HTML situation...

I was a little bummed out to find that I could not personalize my posts this year (heck, thats part of what makes the cooler so neat: the personal aspect)..so I wrote to webmaster and asked why the directions still indicate we can do HTML, but we really cant. In his email response he stated that the web hosting service had been contacted to fix the problem, and to let him know if it still wasnt working on Friday the 12th...guess what, it still isnt, so I am going to write him a little email right now...with any luck maybe we can get this little problem fixed.

Sun, 01/14/2001 - 11:52 PM Permalink
tim_the_hunter

No no Allison, I meant that we use teamwork in relaying only the later clues once we all are at the same park. We meet at a point and get the clue, then go. It is starting to not make as much sence as I thought it did when I thought of it.

Mon, 01/15/2001 - 11:54 AM Permalink
Allison Wonderland

If we're all in the same park, hehe. But don't we do that a bit already? I remember talking to Mom and Dad last year around midnight on clue 5 while I was out at Phalen testing some "brilliant" theory of mine. At Conway not everyone was there at midnight, nor were they digging in the same spots, so it was a bit hard to gather. Never got to that point last year as by then we were already wrapping up the Pity party. Its probably a safe bet though that no one from the Cooler Crew will be left in the dark unless they're in a park by themselves.

Green are we still working together?? I'm there every Friday morning at Ignatia. Haven't seen you there yet, but they never let me leave my cage when I'm there

Hi to the rest. Does anybody have a list of new memorials to Bruce Vento?? I have a feeling just north of a new plaque, bench, or tree ... dedicated to him, is the resting place for my medallion

Now there's a thought, New Daddy.

There is also another article about Snoopy's in today's paper.

So much to noodle....

Mon, 01/15/2001 - 3:41 PM Permalink
tim_the_hunter

The only problem with noodling Snoopy's is that you can easily plug them into clues since there are so many. It is not to say they WON'T use them, it will just be kinda tough.

well, tim, i think the only statues that are really applicable to the hunt are slapshot, down at the highland arena, and boreas and rex. none of the others are in parks. hmm. boreas and rex at the landmark center...
