I'm taking Stoli in to be totally declawed on Wednesday. She's 5 years old and has an extra claw on each of her 4 paws. Do any of you have any advice for the recovery process of an older cat? The vet plans to keep her for 3 days the way it is. I think they're going to be surprised when they see the extra 4 claws that will need extracting. Hopefully they won't increase the charge.

They say use "soft" litter. Like shredded newspaper. That goes a long way. Some cats dont like the newspaper but there are all kinds of new litter out there.

That and lots of love!!!

Thanks. I didn't even think of that. Good idea!

And yes KC :eyeroll:

Actually, it's mostly because she has two claws that grow into her paws pretty fast and needs them cut all the time. It would only cost $20 more to have her totally declawed vs only those two claws alone.

Plan on having time to feed her. You'll probly have to sit with her while she eats. She can't eat with the funnel over her head and if you dont watch her she'll chew on her paws.

Good info. Will I need to hand feed her then? For how long?

My cat ate kinda slow. Took her about a 1/2 hour to eat. If you have a small enough bowl she may be able to get her funnel around the outside of the bowl. I think she wore it for 3-5 days.

Now that I think about it, maybe she just had the funnel when she got her tail bit by the squirrel? I rember I had to flush out a tube that went through her tail because of the infection from that 2-3 times a day. Real pain.

Maybe no funnel for the paws?

The grey matters a little fuzzy.

Isnt the lamp shade so You can go on Vacation You fill it to the brim with food and let them eat there way out!!! no bowl then and nothing to worry about LOL!!! :goofy:

thats a good idea- something more sandy maybe

like a fine clumping kind - easier to scoop anyhow

and I think they'll try to SELL you a funnel for over $20!!

She will want to eat at the stitches. :frown:

I have one from our dog - just like new - you can have it if they recommend it (which I think they will). They are universal- cat/dog. They make different sizes so you will have to cut the edge it down to size because it was for a large animal not a small one, shouldn't be a problem.

the poor baby will need lots of extra loves for awhile -

pppplease make sure they are gonna drug the kitty - I'd even wait and watch them do the drug inducing if they will let you. I know someone that did not drug the cat first :frown: :frown: :frown: :frown: :frown:

We got a flat padded "Life preserver" collar from when our wiener dog was just an eeny-weeny. Whether it's small enough for a cat is kind of a crap shoot, but if your feline is an adult it would probably work.

Finding it may be another matter - - requiring a miner's cap and both cars to be backed out of the garage.

Clue Master

I'll take you both up on those anyway. The cone can be used to play Madonna and the life preserver can help as a 'stool softener' for when I get hemorrhoids.

I could use the miners hat for an altogether type of situation. :sheepish:

You can't pick up seventeen year old girls if you have a miner's hat, Cluey. Sorry to be the one to tell you. :frown:

I revert back to my father's of daughters comment I make once in awhile. Once you have a daughter, you never look at a younger girl the same ever again. My daughter's only 10 yet I won't look at anyone under 30 for some reason.

Some of it may be the lack of experience on their part. I don't want to be the teacher as much as I'd like to be taught. :pbpt:

But either will do

Our Stoli is back at home after spending the past 3 nights at the vets. She's fine and her paws look great! With this laser removal method, the cats rarely feel anything. They only kept her because of her age and weight and didn't want to risk her jumping around and opening the sealed nail areas. I can't wait until I can wrestle with her again. And now not having to be worried about getting all scarred up. We missed our Halloween Kitty, She's never been gone overnight before. Talk about all lovey dovey when we saw each other. :sheepish:

Stoli / Laser Cat

Hmmm....

Sounds like a Super Hero / Alter Ego kind of thing.

Stoli was a perfectly fine house cat, living her adult years in relative peace and obscurity. Until, one day, a cosmetic laser procedure changed all that. Forever....

Sorry about the dramatics - saw Iron Man last night in the early debut shows. Kind of stuck in the comic book mentality. Me2 / Wonder Woman isn't helping either.

Feeling so sorry for my Molly (springer spaniel mix - 12yrs old).. While she is getting up there and doesn't require the constant attention like a puppy... she still feels left out -

My 9yr old got a Nintendo Dogs DS game for christmas and constantly plays with it (you get a puppy and have to take care of it: play with it, teach it things, talk to it, pet it etc..).. so early today he and my 4 year old are tossing a ball for it and saying got it remi - good boy TO A COMPUTER..... and you can hear the dog barking! And hear sits Molly staring at them like HELLO - You have the real thing right in front of you!!

As soon as the rain stops I am making it a personal goal to take her on more walks and play with her...

This dude would love to come to Ares' party, but he's a complete nervous wreck around loud noises (fireworks, etc...).

awwwwwwww

I'm sure it would be fine if you did bring him. he's really cute
Thu, 05/15/2008 - 9:08 AM Permalink
Mad_Dach5und

The odd part is that he first cowers around crowds and doesn't like being hassled - but once he gets comfortable he'll actually walk up to a perfect stranger and beg for attention.

we should do a Cooler Crew dog day, some time.... so many of us have them...

possibly at a dog park, or something?

mrmnmikey

that would be a dog day afternoon.
Sat, 05/17/2008 - 9:02 AM Permalink
Mad_Dach5und

I dunno if TC and Ares are going to login anytime soon, and most everyone is logged off because they are en route to the party...

I made the best Wingman decision I could to leave Merlin at home. We've had spotty rain showers in the last hour or so, and a wet dog, is, well, a WET DOG; No matter how cute they may be. I can't afford to have the lead dog be seen when he's not at the peak of his cuteness.
