We now have an official reservation for the annual Prehunt Bash. We laugh, we play, we enjoy the spirits of good company, clue anticipation, and the meeting establishment. All are welcome. You can't miss us.

dd, that's why the not far from divine. typically saints would be closer to god than i am (no offences intended in the lack of capitalisation, i dont' capatilise anything). after all, the original 12 apostles, minus judas, plus his later replacement, are all saints, who were said to perform miracles of their own after the ascension, something which i believe is still a requirement to obtain the honor of sainthood from rome to this day (i'm not positive though, the roman catholic church and i have our theological disagreements :), and i must admit i'm somewhat ignorant on canon law).

Stupid question, I can't remember what I did the other day to see the message after I inputted something. How do I see the recent messages after I post?

think so, rush. what i want to know is whether the clues show up in the sunday paper that's in grocery stores saturday afternoon :)? i really hate the simple formatting. had to take the i off the front.

Actually, you stole my Joe at 9600. I got 9601, which I can't make anything special out of it, except maybe that is possbily prime, which would be a whole new classification entirely. I just go by even numbers ending in zero 10,20, or 9550. Or big jumps like 9600. Some people like twin numbers 9595, palindromes 9559, or straights 12345.

Ares, they give good background on the Joe info on the cooler crew website, I am sure you know the history behind it being Joe (after Joe medallion in 1998) when a milestone postnumber ie: 9500, that is a Joe a double Joe is a post at 9595, it can also be any number that has any personal signifigance to you, if you need more info let me know. And for the Sunday paper on saturdays, not in there, i have already tried.

There will be no clue in this Saturday's "Early Sunday" paper. The following week, the clue in the "Early Sunday" paper will be the same as in the Saturday paper, if tradition holds.

I have a proposal for an idea that I have been thinking about for the last couple of days, it goes like this: In one of the postings we should assign numbers to the parks that the clue has been found in before. That way if anyone from the Press does hop in to take a look, they will have no idea what the numbers signify. Of course after they can go back and look at the past postings, but they may not. This also prevents idle hands (my term for people who don't post, only read) from understanding. I am trying to sound as little like and exclusionist as possible, sorry if I have failed. It is a thought that I would like some feedback on.

Let's see, to read recent posts, you could refresh. The problem with that is if you refresh a page on which you posted a message, it tends to keep reposting it. The more often recommended way after we get sick of that is to just click the underlined number of the most recent post. For example, the most recent post I see right now has the headline "Rushmore - 10:56pm Jan 17, 2001 CST (#9612 of 9612) where the first 9612 is underlined. If you click on that, it also gives you all the messages after that. If I just posted a message, I usally hit my back button, and then hit the number of the last post on that page, and then I don't miss any.

As for claiming Joe's, once you've made a post, you basically own that number. And for the next half hour you can go back and edit the message and proclaim your Joe.

Allison, good evening, thanks for the info on refreshing. I new there was a more parsimonious way out there.

I understand what you mean about the people who just come here to get help and don't post. There's two problems though. One, the regulars are probably going to forget or may have missed the original message and will keep asking what the numbers mean. Secondnly, if they don't, one of the lurkers will probably speak up and ask, and someone is bound to explain it. The only answer really is to have the discussions elsewhere. My Yahoo club also has a message board and I may reserve some comments for posting only there. Also I'll post there if this site goes down or becomes overly obnoxious. Over there I have the power to delete messages and even kick people out if need be.

Hope to see you in my club. Its free, but you do need a Yahoo ID, but that's free too. I do have some things in there I don't have here. I also happen to like the links I've collected there.

actually, the yahoo club would be ideal. does yahoo let you create pages like that for the club allison? create a static page to it, the regulars know where your club is at, and everyone else would be left in the dark. if not, i've got a bit of unused bandwith here at home on my web server i can donate to the cause. i've just got to rummage out a bunch of the disc space i've got used (squandered if you will) on it.

    Wed, 01/17/2001 - 11:12 PM Permalink
    Allison Wonderland

Unfortunately, that's the main problem I've had with Yahoo clubs is that there's no good place to leave an easily visible item posted. About the best I could do is put it in a message, and then mention the number of the message in the club welcome message.

    Wed, 01/17/2001 - 11:14 PM Permalink
    ares

how does your links page get created? of course you could always set up a yahoo/geocities personal site with said info, as well.

    Wed, 01/17/2001 - 11:15 PM Permalink
    Rushmore

I have a thought, it is probably a little bit long though. You could post it on your site and then have who you want to see it check off that they have written it down or we could get a community email for yahoo and then we can checkoff that we have the numbers and then just erase the message.

    Wed, 01/17/2001 - 11:17 PM Permalink
    Allison Wonderland

You would be posting as your Yahoo ID, unless you wanted to create an alias for that ID of Rushmore(probably followed by a number) and joined the club under that alias.

As for myself, I grew up in St. Paul and so have always been around the hunt, but the first time I went digging in a serious effort was three years ago in Cherokee and two years ago at Conway was the first time I was involved from start to finish.

yes, rush, but we've all lost previous email messages, etc. i don't have the greatest filing skills for hard-copy (or soft-copy as is evidenced by the fact that i need more disc space here). i imagine most of you are using win95/98/me and have to reinstall it periodically destroying your email archives.

Actually, Yahoo clubs does allow me to send out an email to all club members that would never be public so that's a possibility. As for the links page, it has a Yahoo format where you just add the links by copying and pasting the URL. I was referring more to the sites I've collected than the layout of the page though. I think its a fairly complete set of tools.

    Wed, 01/17/2001 - 11:20 PM Permalink
    Rushmore

Ares, I may be misunderstanding you, but if it were under a community address like ccusers@yahoo or something to that effect with an easy password, then if you had to reinstall you could still check back or if it were erased just email someone associated with the hunt and we could send it you.

not sure, rush. i've got exactly no experience with yahoo community addresses. in fact my experience with them is limited to them providing me with a geocities address that follows me wherever i go (currently routed to my umn alum account), and a web site that may or may not exist anymore.

anyhow. back to the subject at hand. you'll have to forgive me if i start sounding anal about making sure there's a copy of it somewhere. my employer is in the business of protecting data :)
