Ares, If I am following you correctly I can understand how that would not be a great thing to have on file and have to explain. When did you graduate from the 'U'
actually, i think it is an excellent thing to have on file. what i'm more or less trying to get at is how do we control access to it so that only c.c. members have it, and is available in the event someone loses it. if allison had a private site on yahoo, that would be the perfect spot to put it. keeps any of us from having to remember any community passwords, etc.
I like Allison's site idea as well. I graduate from there in May and start grad school there in June. I just hope I don't shoot myself in the foot by getting too involved in the hunt.
rush -- in high school, i had a senior slide. march-june of 99 was more like a cliff. watch out, if you haven't started to lose all your ambition to finish, it's coming. i've got a friend who's still there. she kept me in my 2 credit e.e. senior design lab so i could get that degree (which i never plan to use). she's graduating in may, and on monday we "traded places". she's a double major, math and spanish, with a senior paper for spanish to do over the summer. she's questioning whether she wants to finish the spanish degree. (lucky her, she'll get to walk across the stage twice, since the math degree is coming from i.t., though i keep telling her she won't miss much by not participating in the ceremony; i didn't, and wouldn't do it again except for my family).
Thank's for the heads up. I think I can finish it though, I am starting to lose my will, but if I want a decent job, I have to keep the GPA up, that's my motivation. But, if I find the medallion..!
In the thick of a teeming snowfall I saw my shadow in snow. I turned and looked back up at the sky, Where we still look to ask the why Of everything below
If I shed such a darkness, If the reason was in me, That shadow of mine should show in form Against the shapeless shadow of storm, How swarthy I must be.
I turned and looked back upward. The whole sky was blue; And the thick flakes floating at a pause Were but frost knots in an airy gauze, With the sun shining through.
I agree with Allison 100% (well at *least* 90%) about last year's clues. I was one of te ones that was rooting for Swede Hollow. I think it wasthe 2nd or 3rd night and we were there - not digging, but definitely scoping the place out.
Tim* - it is a decent sized park, goes all the way down the hill (to where Payne meets 7th), but in all reality, I don't think it's a good candidate because of the parking and the terrain.
two more wake ups... two more wake ups... two more wake ups...
Gotta kick derreier (sp?) today; make a meeting tomorrow, and then this "totally clueless and in the dark" brain shuts down until The Med's found but for clue noodling. I do have to work Sat but that's more fun that work, and Mon while I will physically bee at work, I won't bee mentally.
Actually, I'll prolly noodle and daydream thru the meeting tomorrow! LOL! I think 2day's gonna be as far as I can go non-hunt wise!
say, rush, whenever you come back, what's your major anyway? oh, and you saw what is pretty much the extent of the year of high school spanish that remains in the grey matter. :)
mom -- i was rooting for the hollow, too, and then clues started moving away from it, and i was convinced phalen was the spot, since the shoreview tv antennae were perfectly visible at night in boreas' direction. then the fairview and wheeler clue came out. in retrospect, the terrain of the hollow should have been a giveaway that it wasn't there
Does anyone know for sure what time the paper is available in the Pioneer Press lobby. I know that the clue comes out at midnight on the web site, but does it come out earlier in the lobby?
Well I just wanted to briefly comment on the numbering plan discussed last night. Coming from the perspective of someone who moved from "lurker" last year to trying to join the discussion this year, it seems that the plan kind of defeats the idea of community. If someone can't figure out what's going on they aren't going to stick around and ever join the community, they will feel unwelcome and bow out. Sometimes it just takes people a while to warm up to a group and you will always have "lurkers" and trying to add in a step to keep some information away from them doesn't seem to me to be a really "friendly" way to encourage them to join in ever. Just a thought!
I was going to mention something along the same lines. What actually defines a Cooler Crew member? Someone may come along later in the hunt who may be a perfectly serious addition to the Cooler, but doesn't know what we're talking about. Chances are they will ask. Are they to be ignored? In the past I know I've been one of the key people for "letting the cat out of the bag". So that's why this year I think I'll try to reserve such comments for my Yahoo club, assuming that only the more serious hunters would bother to join it. Still, given the fact that any single person's chances of actually finding it are somewhat slim, its something of a consolation prize to have publicly proclaimed (correctly) the true meaning of the clues and the hiding place of the Medallion.
And by the way, yes, I believe the paper is supposed to come out at 11:30 at the PP downtown office, then at midnight here. I remember one night last year where it didn't come out on the website until like 2AM or later.
think so to BAX-MAN72 Anybody else wondering why they are starting so early this year Are there going to be 15 clues or are they ending before the end of the carnival? We figured it would start the 24th to make the usual 12 clues ending the last day of the carnival
This is the same time it always starts, the Sunday before the carnival starts, and yes, it does end before the end of the carnival. I'm not sure what the logic of that is.
bax, you make a good point. as a member of that discussion group, perhaps the goal should be to not keep out the lurkers, since a lurker may be intent on joining the community. a better word would be leeches. in my mind at least, there is a difference. but, your point is well taken, at least here.
Lurkers or leeches, I have been on this board for 3 years, althou i am not considered a Cooler Head. I'm just the quite type. The coolers noodling have not helped this poor soul.
This is gonna be interesting now we got two "rush's" here I guess I will have to post on this primarily in my other cloak. If I'm posting as RushHarley feel free to call me RH, and continue to call Rushmore (Rush). I will try my best to remember to post in here under my alter-ego as soon as the hunt begins.
I believe that they end the hunt before the Winter Carnival is over so that people can get out and enjoy the other Winter Carnival events. THEY REALLY DO HAVE OTHER EVENTS, I KNOW IT"S HARD TO BELIEVE, BUT THEY DO!
Hey Crewe Brethren! (pardon the spelling, moved to New Orleans for the summer and got educated on Rue Chartres and Rue Bourbon!)
I'm a gigantic proponent of Highland or Phalen since we have had 2 small parks in a row with a 'quick find' last year and Como would be too close to Newell, need new area.... Battle Creak ok too.....
'wood, you're going to have to be diseducated. i'd think most of us would be offended to be considered part of the "crewe". :) we would by definition in lore, have no snow to dig through were that the case. and that, would make us very cranky crewe-folk.

I don't know about you guys, but i've got a dead giveaway that i'm reposting when i.e. pops up a message box to the effect of "the request must be re-posted" when hitting refresh. the underlined post is the best way to "refresh".
Ares, I am a Psych major, therefore I am in CLA and because of that I had to pass the GPT and I chose Spanish. I did not retain much, but when I need to speak it, it comes through.
Bax you bring up good points, my intention was not to exclude the idle hands, though it appeared so. It was intended more to deter the Mom press from hopping on here and seeing what our thoughts were. My logic is I think they hop on to see what we talk about and possibly adjust the location of the medallion. However, after just thinking about it, you all had the location of Newell down by #4 and it was found on #7, there goes that theory!
Allison, I think I am a new member, but may have failed in my attempt to do so.
hey, looks like we've got someone here who can get into the heads of the clue writers :).
I guess i took your intentions wrong as well, and i was part of the discussion. that said, it's an even better idea if we're to keep our thoughts cloaked from mom p. even though i love a good paranoia causing conspiracy, i really, really doubt mom p. moves the medallion based on our comments here. oh, and i wasn't convinced of newell until clue 7, and i'd checked out newell one day that week at lunch.
Anyway, I just checked my roster. I see one new member has joined, but its hard to say who. If you did join successfully, you should get a confirmation email from Yahoo. Also looking over the roster, I see now who rivraft is. I never would have guessed that was you! Nice to see you again.
You know I looked at it and said okay the S.S. Itari is mixed up and blind. I thought, okay take out the I's if it's blind. I came up with stars. I thought that was possibly it, but wasn't sure, so I looked at other possibilities. I should always stick with my first thought. I overanalyzed it, as always. I received an email of confirmation, but when I tried to access some things, I can't.
If there's some things you can't access, make sure you're actually logged into Yahoo under your ID. At the top left, when in the club, what does it say you are? A guest or member?
Then maybe you're not logged in. A guest can only go to some areas of the club. If you have Yahoo mail, you can log in there, or under My Yahoo, or under the clubs main page, or probably anywhere else that involves something personalized.
my little puzzle is part of a popular quote from one of the greatest movies of all time Midnight Madness, I use this quote as part of my other taglineThis is a great movie to watch to get you in the mood for the hunt. I also have been watching the mole and that is getting me into a more analytical mindset too. Now I just gotta get over to the Murder Mystery Dinner Theater, to further sharpen my deductive reasoning.

you mean there's some sort of carnival going on med hunter? :) tell us more about these other events.

Getting excited. Trying to get into that analytical mode. Maybe some puzzles would be a good exercise today.
Yeah me too, alittle nervous about the SHAKE-UP that's about to happen in our lives.

If there's some things you can't access, make sure you're actually logged into Yahoo under your ID. At the top left, when in the club, what does it say you are? A guest or member?

Good afternoon Ares.
afternoon, rush. except i've been here since 7 this morning.
