2008 Oakdale Summerfest Hunt

Submitted by KITCH on
Clue 1 Each year, it begins the same.
We remind you how to play.
No digging, climbing, or swimming.

There. Now you’re on your way.
Celebrate on the fourth of July,
By proudly waving the flag.
But to learn the clue, pick only two hues,
Or up front you will start to lag.

Clue 2 X marks the spot
For you to pause and ponder.
If your mind is wide open,
You’ll know you need to wander.

Business association extraordinaire!
Our sponsors, the OBPA.
A strong foundation in the community,
A group effort that paves the way.

Clue 3 It’s only natural to solve the clues.
And we want you to find the prize.
So look for it a little beyond,
And it’s wearing a bit of a disguise.

If you’re a veteran of hunts,
Or just starting out,
To find the hidden medallion,
You simply need to seek it out.

Clue 4 No ransom to pay
To a road traveled less.
Pretty smooth sailing,
By where you end your quest.

It’s good to be constructive,
So don’t detour any more.
Living on a prayer used to work,
But now it’s another door.

I suppose it's worth a shot... anything still seems to be in play.

Stupid clues can point you any which way you can make them fit.

Anyone check Bethke, Eastside or Goosepond parks yet?

I just came back from the dock at the nature center. Lots of mosquitoes, but not much else. There is a picnic table right by the dock. I liked the red fire hydrant next to the blue manhole cover we saw there yesterday, but I don't think its there.

I'm not sure what to think at this point. Tanners is looking better. Maybe I'll go by the dock tonight or tomorrow.

I need another clue.

There is a new street on one block of Grafton Ave near tanners parking lot. It used to be dirt and now has new houses and is paved.

The medallion has been found at Preservation Park!

I was thinking that it might be there, probably for the wrong reason thought. X marks the spot made me think about St. Mark's church, as that was used during the Merriam hunt. There is a St. Mark's church in North St. Paul, but I doubt you can see it from Preservation Park even though it's on the westernmost border of Oakdale.

Also, I did a "site:" google search on the first day of the hunt on the address where Oakdale stores all their pdf files, and a map of preservation park was the only park map to come up. I didn't think much of it at the time, I just figured that it was a map from their website.

I went to Tanners last night. I got attacked by a bird while standing on the dock. Musta been a baby bird somewhere. It kept dive bombing me getting closer and closer.

Barn Swallow?

They have little to no fear of humans. They always remind me of the "Batwing" from the old 60's TV show. Their nests are about 85% mud and poop. Messy little buggers, but they eat almost as many mosquitoes as the bats do.

No it was a black bird with red behind the neck. I see them in swamps and lakes mostly. Not sure of the name

Possibly a red winged blackbird? Looked like this.

ponder = passive? Huh

That was why that park wasn't on any of my lists. No water.
