the first battle that easily comes to mind is Lexington.

I know, green. but i'm still hurting.

allison. i'm not gonna let duel lead me to battle creek. it's way, way too early in the hunt for that sort of thing.

Thanks, TT. I feel better now.

Ares, it's never to early for anything. They could be hinting to us or maybe they aren't. Early noodling never hurts but it adds to the fun of the game. Playing on the words "Place of Gold" could reference the item it's in or location. I'm checking on streets around some of the parks.

and prepare to be bold Or you won't find the secret item

That's the part that makes me think there's possibly something siginificant in this clue somewhere. Why not say the hidden item? Sounds like there is something secret to look for if you're bold.

I don't think snelling was a battle but fort snelling could be associated pretty strongly with battles?

Ares? I never said anything about duel leading to Battle Creek.

Highland Park: steep, Lexington Pkwy, Snelling (Battle), Fort (where soliders stay). Was there a battle leader named Ford?

Hi all. Just back from a nice stroll in the park. I,ve been reconsidering clue 1 and the word gold does spark my thinker. I come up with 3 thoughts. 1... the stuff from my youth that has slowed down my thoughts...2... beer, which has pretty much done the same presently and 3... McDonalds french fries.. check out the package they come in... sponser of olympics

Maybe instead of battles, you should think of famous duels, like Hamilton vs. Burr.

Allison, I mentioned it in one of my posts. Sorry, about the confusion. Just throwing out thoughts not really deciding on any park but trying to get ideas.

Yea, that's it, the golden arches of McDonalds! Its by a McDonalds on Snelling Ave! (again, just kidding)

Como also has Lexington running to it. There are also many states surrounding Como that battles could have been fought in.

I agree allison, I do think there is something else in this clue. The writer has figured out that most of us diggers are actually pretty clever and need to be challenged if the hunt is to last any length. Do you think secret refers to hidden as in hidden falls?

Sun, 01/21/2001 - 2:49 PM Permalink
excavating stud

seriously I did notice there is a lot of snow and its ice covered which makes walking easy but digging might be another thing and if you don't pinpoint the med from the clues digging could take untill June

Sun, 01/21/2001 - 2:51 PM Permalink
Allison Wonderland

Of course secret item could just be what is is hidden in/attached to.

State Fair Grounds does have the road "Commonwealth" running through it as well as Snelling.

Any thoughts on the hiding strategy given current and predicted snow conditions? How to hide the medallion with minimal tell-tale marks?

Sun, 01/21/2001 - 2:55 PM Permalink
green

What's with the "our" stuff? Why doesn't it say "your"?

Maybe the new Doofy Clue Writer(s) have hunted in the past? Like as recently as last year?

Sun, 01/21/2001 - 2:55 PM Permalink
Allison Wonderland

In all honesty, no I don't think it would refer to Hidden Falls. You don't really have to be bold to find those, and it would be awfully strange in a year that claims to be extra difficult to have the name of the park alluded to in the first clue.

Sun, 01/21/2001 - 2:56 PM Permalink
Treasure Digger

I'm pretty sure the medallion's been hidden for a while now. Many opportunities to hide it have come and gone. Little chance of snow melting to where the ground will show. Predictions from the weather front is average temperatures which means 20's.

And if this is a year for doing away with conventional wisdom, there's no reason to necessarily think that it will be buried under the snow.

Well I need to go for a bit. Will be back later.

Sun, 01/21/2001 - 3:00 PM Permalink

If we consider that doing away with conventional wisdom, then should we keep Newell in the picture?

Sun, 01/21/2001 - 3:00 PM Permalink

That would certainly be a "bold" idea, Allison...

Aw.. Allison is the clue writer. Was I right then about the med being in a mcdonalds fry package that you so quickly made fun of ALLISON????

when's the last time they hid it above or not in the snow?

Gods, Tiny, I'd have to look it up. I'm totally clueless there.

But it would be a bold move - ittiz been years since it was above ground.

I've been looking at the hiding places list, but I can't tell if an items been buried in the snow or was just above ground. D'oh!

Could also be at a rec center this year since those aren't actually parks.

Actually I believe the year it was at Conway rec they called that a park, I am realy kinda hanging on the fact that neither park nor golf course was mentioned in clue #1. I also agree with AW, on the word "secret item" that suggests to me there is SOMETHING else hidden in here, now to find that something else we must be BOLD, so what can we do to be bold???

keep on your toes might mean that it is above ground, now that would certainly be a bold thing to do with it, something that hasn't been done in a long time.

I was mentioning last night that I thought bold has something to do with it, but it could be so many different things.

Also, last night at McGoverns the Vulcan's came in. They said that the Salt Lake City Olympic Committee was in town trying to get ideas for other events to hold in Salt Lake during the olympics. Specifically, they were interested in the big slide.

I still have a thing for the wedding clues pointing to Como and now the Olympic Committee (gold) looking at the big slide.

Things that make you go Hmmmmm

Gotta Bee one o'those two...
