It might just have to be that the Rehash Bash is set up to be a 2 part event. I even miss some aspects of the old way where you got to go to the park and see the hiding spot and such, but I also like the indoor version where people are free to hang out longer without getting too cold.
I should bottle it
I did, too. Really. Damn, they were good. Got to get the namo\e o'them.
What izzit you'd like jumped on, Ice? Hhhuuummm?

Hey, folks! I had a good time at the bash yesterday! Lots of good food! It was the first time I had corn-on-the-cob at a picnic in February! Lots of wonderful people! Those of you who didn't come missed a good one! Thank you, Greensleeves, for your work on this project!
Let's have a "pre-hunt" party next year on the night the first clue comes out for the water cooler gang. We could meet at some local eating establishment. Someone in the group could wait at the Pioneer Press building and get the first newspaper out and bring it over to the group and read the first clue to the rest.
Next year during the hunt, how about everyone in the water cooler gang wrapping a band of duct tape around the left sleeve of their jackets while digging so the rest of us will know which ones are in the water cooler gang? You can use duct tape for everything else; this would be the newest use!
Have fun, gang!
The duct tape thing never happened though.
But even Battle Creek was so cold and damp. It was the damp that just about did us in.
And Penny just about froze to death there. Poor thing.
How fitting that DDY was the thought behind the PDG. I remember wearing something white too. We were supposed to say a code word or something too weren't we? It wasn't 'Ya Dig?' just yet though. Something else that set us aside from the other hunters when we yelled it. I wore a white scarf and felt gay as hell.
The things I do for you guys :sheepish:
I remember walking up to a person wearing a white hat and said whatever we were supposed to say and they looked at me all odd-like. My scarf ended up in my car ASAP. :eyeroll:
what a wonderful guy
I knew this was all his fault somehow
I still love the idea of an outdoor picnic. Maybe just some more preparedness would help. Can anyone wrangle a generator to keep the Crock Pots humming?
I've got a 15 ft x 20 ft tarp that could work for a nice wind break just about anywhere with enough bungee cords. I've got a small propane grill, and if my brother is not out ice fishing I could probably steal his two propane sunflowers (need a tank for one).
Heck, we can get up in the dead of night and scramble out to a dark park to look for the puck, I'd think we could still picnic outside.
Last year (2007) was an exception for sure, though - even the Mason Lodge was cold THAT afternoon. Was it about 1 below or something like that?
I know it was You Dig? by the end of that hunt, but I think you're right CM. It was something else earlier.
The crock pots being plugged in hasn't been a problem as we always found electricity in the park. It's how quickly anything hot gets cold once out of the crock and onto a plate.
The difference between hunting and picnicing is when hunting, we're moving. When picnicing, we tend to stand around to visit.
I prefer to be warmer and have time to enjoy others.
What I propose is this: Potluck indoors - and then a continuation for those wishing to do so in the park or an eatery or bar near the park. The exception would be if we get another hunt where there is indoor shelter to use.
I originaly was thinking saturday would be better, but have since changed my mind and think it should stay on sunday. I like that it is after the Parade. But then again, anyone that goes to the victory dance sat night dont show up. hmmm..
Still not set on a weekend day yet but the idea of indoors then at park(or place by park) unless park has facilities is good.
I know for a fact, that we scared somebody from the CC, out of the park that year... we thought we were the only ones there, at like 2 or 3 in the morning, and noticed somebody with a white band on their arm, up the hill from us.... so we yelled "you dig?!?!"...
they took one look at us, and took off running....
Oooh, and AW for the spot! You guys are awesome.
if anybodies jacket smelled really bad the night of the PDG, this year... thats cause I farted in the coat closet.....
heh...
nah... im just playin...
I dont fart, and if I did, it wouldnt stink.
forgot about this thread!!!
thanks MMM
I heard there could be a possibility that Matty B's might be closing???? Slow business downtown and RNC didn't hold up to the revenue expectations.
Should we call now and reserve the basement at McGovern's for the PDG??? We can always cancel later......
or wasn't that really his house in MH?
I said the rumors are flying that Matty B's may close its doors - She said that if we know something to let her in on it because there is no such talk at all...
So if we want to "claim our spot" I would be more than happy to set it up for 2009...
Thanks for helping out Kat
Thanks Kat!
ps. great to see you yesterday - what a beautiful day!
I heard iceman doesn't use toiletpaper when he goes
Nope and he stinks so bad nobody can finish their meal!
