Dad and I went out to cruise the parks this afternoon. We actually saw people digging at Mounds, not in any other parks. We went by Battle Creek, Phalen, Mounds, Highland (on your toes = high? - but I think it's too soon to repeat there), and pretty much came home after that.

I got out of having to grocery shop, and I got Chinese food for dinner - heckuva deal!

Mounds might be considered high as it's up on from the river too.

Mom--you have Chinese food for dinner and you'll just want to go medallion hunting later.

yeah...the best time of the year is here again.

DD - Yup! LOL! But I'll probably want BOTH again later anyway!

well, big or small park this year? I'm thinking big.

Sun, 01/21/2001 - 8:22 PM Permalink
Terry

I'm keeping an open mind to the possibility it might not be a park at all.

Sun, 01/21/2001 - 8:23 PM Permalink
sspclassof69

I agree with Terry--no mention of park in the first clue....!

Sun, 01/21/2001 - 8:25 PM Permalink
StepDogg

well it kinda has to be because it cant be on private property right?

Sun, 01/21/2001 - 8:25 PM Permalink
'mom'

I'm liking the idea of somewhere other than a park as well. It's so unusual for them to not use the word...."park" in the clue.

But BOY is that gonna be hard, if we're all just out cruising the city! It certainly would make for a "much tougher duel"!

Sun, 01/21/2001 - 8:26 PM Permalink
Terry

There is public lands that aren't parks. Of course the clue tonight could tell us park and then we can let this idea slide into oblivion.

Sun, 01/21/2001 - 8:27 PM Permalink
'mom'

There's lots of public property that is not a park. The traffic light at Grand and Snelling, for example....public property. It's just been *so long* since they've not put it in a park, I'm not sure how that will all work.

hi to everyone finally logged on lap top down all day going slogging see you later

Sun, 01/21/2001 - 8:27 PM Permalink
StepDogg

don't know, the idea is a good one, but i thing people would disturb private property is it wasn't in a park

Sun, 01/21/2001 - 8:29 PM Permalink
StepDogg

geez, i need to learn how to type!!

The Capital Mall is not a park.

Sun, 01/21/2001 - 8:30 PM Permalink
Terry

Most rec centers are not parks but public lands.

Sun, 01/21/2001 - 8:32 PM Permalink
Terry

There are ball fields that aren't in parks.

Sun, 01/21/2001 - 8:34 PM Permalink
StepDogg

true. we should find out how many of the previous years clues actually use the word "park"

Do yu think there will be a tie-in with the 50th anniversary of the Hunt? or with Snoopy/Charles Schultz (st. paul native) or has that been hashed? just got home from wk and did not catch earlier postings.

New Daddy

I took the kids to the pool(near Phalen) and was looking in THE GUIDE while sitting in the hot tub. thats the way to hunt...

I know I know june probable just rhythms with June but we only got so much to work with and we have waited so long...

'mom'

I was just clicking through all the first clues on the coolercrew.com website trying to analyze the same thing. I can't say anything very scientific, but I'd guess only about 7 of the past 10 actually mentioned "park" even when it was in a park.

Sun, 01/21/2001 - 8:41 PM Permalink
'mom'

New Daddy - Which pool is that?! Inquiring minds have got to know!

1990 when it was at Como, "park" wasn't mentioned at all...

Sun, 01/21/2001 - 8:44 PM Permalink
Terry

Dunning field would be one example of a non-park public land. There are others I'm finding that aren't "parks" but could handle a dig.

Sun, 01/21/2001 - 8:45 PM Permalink
StepDogg

1994 - 2000 all use the word "park" in the 1st or second clue. my guess is it will appear tonight. if not, i'll definately go with terry's idea

At least we didn't get another Viking's Depression clue for the first one this year.

Sun, 01/21/2001 - 8:51 PM Permalink
StepDogg

we REALLY should have gotten one of those this year!!

Sun, 01/21/2001 - 8:52 PM Permalink
StepDogg

how is this the 50th hunt when it began in 1952?

Sun, 01/21/2001 - 8:57 PM Permalink
Terry

It's the 50th time the hunt has gone on. In 2002 it will be 51st time.

Sun, 01/21/2001 - 8:57 PM Permalink
Terry

It's a numbers thing. I don't even know that I can explain it other than if you figure the first hunt was in 52, the second in 53, the third in 54 and so on...by the time you counted to 2001, it would be 50.

I'm gonna see if I can't get my head calmed down enough to go to sleep. Did I see that someone posted that the *real* paper is going to be available earlier - like 11:00? That'd be cooler - I can handle staying up till 11:30, but midnight + noodling time just is too late, when I get up at 4:30.

Sun, 01/21/2001 - 9:02 PM Permalink
StepDogg

yeah, i got it now....i was just doing a subtraction thing, not including 52 i guess

Y'all will probably see me here at midnight. I gotta at least get more words to keep repeating in my head.

Terry

No obsession at all there, Mom! LOL!!

Sun, 01/21/2001 - 9:09 PM Permalink
StepDogg

Mom...good attitude. medallion hunting season is short and only once a year!!!

Sun, 01/21/2001 - 9:10 PM Permalink
sspclassof69

Where was the vry first medallion found..which park?

Sun, 01/21/2001 - 9:14 PM Permalink
Terry

Highland

sspclassof69

Maybe they will put it in the same spot/park as that first one to tie in with the 50th? Also--the word "gold" isn't 50th anniversary the golden anniversary...?

This is the 50th Hunt, instead o'the 49th, as there were two Hunts in 1953. Chair-O-Key and State Fair Grounds.

Sun, 01/21/2001 - 9:17 PM Permalink
StepDogg

you are so right...gold is the traditional 50th anniversary gift.

You know Annnette, I had thought the same thing with the world gold.

But that is an awfully small postage sized piece of land.

bet the med will be gold in color this year....that's probably all that means...if it means anything at all. i've found overanalyzing these clues is bad!!

Of course overanalyzing the clues is bad for us, that's why we like it so much!
