Does the paper still sell the early addition at 11:00?

I had the same thought about the medallion possibly being wrapped in gold foil or some such thing, but even if it were, so what? Not like I'm going to ignore things of other colors.

The 50 anniversary is the golden one, however, this isn't really the 50th anniversary, its the 50th hunt, and if you take green's point into consideration, this is actually the 51st hunt (but its still the 50th year of hunting).

And if anyone is still confused. The first hunt was in 1952:

  • It was the first hunt
  • It was the first year of the hunt
  • It had been zero years since the first hunt

    In 1953:

    • It was the second and third hunt
    • It was the second year to have a hunt
    • It had been one year since the first hunt

      So in 2001:

    • It is the 51st hunt
    • It is the 50th year of the hunt
    • It has been 49 years since the first hunt

Sorry I missed the bash last night, I had my work party. Sam (my young on') and I are going to be heavy in to the hunt this year. I have a suspicion that we're going back to Highland. Five times in 50 years....

Anyone know where we can get the official cooler medallion hunt button?

So why isn't it midnight yet???

Are you asking about the Winter Carnival button or the Coolercrew button?

According to today's PP, page 16H, "the new clues will be in newspapers sold from the downtown St. Paul lobby at 345 Cedar Street starting at about 11 each night during the hunt. The new clue, she said, also will be posted at midnight at www.pioneerplanet.com/wintercarnival"

Hey! Sam wants to know what the medallion actually looks like. Has anyone ever SEEN the medallion? A jpeg would be great. Is there a picture of the actual med somewhere? coolercrew.com?

At the risk of sounding like an idiot (although those who've met me know that it's too late for that), wouldn't something wrapped in any kind of foil set off a metal detector, Allison? I'm not suggesting it's actually wrapped in real gold foil, but I don't know how sensitive those detectors are and you generally see someone out every year with one.

TV. We're wondering 'bout the Cooler Crew button. Saw these under memorabilia on the Cooler webpage.

    Sun, 01/21/2001 - 10:01 PM Permalink
    Terry

Foil would set those detectors off...but it's been years since I've seen those during the hunt. It somehow seems more fair now without that technology.

Now here's something to consider though. It says St. Paul is the place to look. Dig elsewhere and you'll not find it. Grammatically the implication is that you will be digging, just not outside of St. Paul.

Along with the CC button, does anyone know where to get the Medallion shirt OFF-line?

The fiftieth anniversary is fifty years from the date of the event, regardless of the subsequent number of times the event has been repeated.

Emmy and Hannah's Mom - and Dad too have the buttons. They are $1 each to cover the cost. They will be hunting and at the rehash bash and on the board here. You'll have to hook up with them one way or another.

    Sun, 01/21/2001 - 10:03 PM Permalink
    Allison Wonderland

It might set them off, if anyone really wanted to drag one out and use it just because there's a possibility it might work.

So are we to assume DIG elsewhere and you'll not find it, or does it mean dig ELSEWHERE and you'll not find it? Maybe that's the difference between whether or not it's in the snow.

    Sun, 01/21/2001 - 10:07 PM Permalink
    Allison Wonderland

Elsewhere is a word of contrast, so I would think it would pretty much have to be the second option.

    Sun, 01/21/2001 - 10:10 PM Permalink
    Gregor

Sam thanks you, DDave. I'll keep my eyes open for Emmy and Hannah's Mom - Dad.

Have they ever spelled out the initial letters in bold before? Seems really like a rookie move, a diversion.

    G O O D L U C K

Could this have anything to do with the first line, ...prepare to be bold?

    Sun, 01/21/2001 - 10:14 PM Permalink
    StepDogg

ok i don't think they are going to have any certain word in the first clue that actually means something. they never do.

    Sun, 01/21/2001 - 10:15 PM Permalink
    Allison Wonderland

I don't recall them ever spelling out anything like that in the first or any clues (though sometimes they spell something with the first letter of each clue). Maybe its someone new writing them this year. Sounds like someone who was a hunter last year.

    Boy am I MAD!!!

I bought another button last night at McGovern's from the Vulcans because I was convinced it made sense to have at least 2 registered in case the USPS wasn't reliable.

I just went to fill out the card to get in the mail tomorrow - only to find it has already been ripped off!

    Grumble, Grumble!

Elsehwere--adverb [middle English elleshwere; Anglo Saxon Elleshwaer] in, at, or to some other place; somewhere else. Webster's New World Dictionary. Ok, that did nothing but occupy time. Honestly, in 10 years, clue1 has not given us the park or the hiding object, so I need another clue to obsess on.

    Sun, 01/21/2001 - 10:28 PM Permalink
    Downtown Dave

Anybody want to transcribe the clue if I call it in from the paper at 11:00?

    Sun, 01/21/2001 - 10:32 PM Permalink
    ares

the past 4 years, while not giving us the park, have at least given that it is in a park. 95 and 96 saved that piece till the second clue, and 94 did it with the first.
