Did you buy a Taser yet? Mom used to threaten us with a wooden spoon too keep us in line - I'm just thinking you need the next generation of 'threat' to keep the kids off the 'naughty' list.
I can remember, way back when I was like 5 or 6, I found some casette tape laying around the house, that somebody had put a bunch of his songs on...
I used to ALWAYS have this little tape recorder with me, wherever I went, and would tape random stuff..... no Idea why I did that or got the idea, at such a young age....
but anyhow, I used to pop that tape in, every once in a while and listen to it, having no idea who he was, or anything...
Ive only got one of those many tapes that I filled up, way back then - and its the john denver one, only I recorded a buncha other random stuff on the other side - conversations, arguments, tv commercials, etc....
My mom is a John Denver Fan-atic. Has more albums that he probably actually recorded.
Never really rubbed off on me, but I ALWAYS listen to the Denver & Muppets Christmas Album. I think we burned out two vinyl LPs of those Christmas songs on our old Fisher-Price record player as kids. Kinda wish they would re-air the TV special some time.
it sure does. tc's stepmom gave me a 3 disc compendium of his music for christmas last year (evidently memorizing all his lyrics was (well, still is) part of the final test to join the family  ). he wrote "follow me" for their wedding, and qwest used parts of it from about 2003 on in their tv commercials.
John Denver and the Muppets is a Christmas tradition for me.
I just listened to the album today on the drive to MN.
Roads were surprisingly good, considering how they were yesterday.
But I am sooooooooooo tired tonight! Been trying for four days to get out of the U.P. and good thing I chanced it today as it looks like snow through Wednesday up there now.
Which one? There's something like 16 different John Denver 'Greatest Hits' Albums - he's one of those artists that's probably made more after his career was done than when he was 'popular'. Who gets his dough now?
To walk into a store and be greeted with friendly hello's by each person you meet, or that smile and nod saying I acknowledge you...
Being with people you care about, regardless how crazy they make you at times...
Putting aside all your troubles for one day and helping others...
It's not about all the commercial hype and what it's in it for me... it's the time to be giving of yourself - making others feel worthwhile...
I love Christmas, regardless of how it started or what religion you are (if any at all) - a huge majority of human kind changes for the good at this time of year... even if its for a short time....I just wish that spirit would last all year long....
So I hold my head up proudly and say Merry Christmas to ALL!!!
I'm with you, Kat. I just love Christmas. It's a celebration and nothing is going to spoil that for me. My sister's family comes over plus mine and it's quite a group! My sister died 24 years ago and they've been part of our celebration ever since. We acknowledge those who aren't with us by putting a picture of them on my secretary. My mother with a bow from a present on her head, my husband carving the turkey while wearing an apron, and my sister in her Christmas sweater.
I always choke up when we say grace. I laugh when that happens because my mother would always do the same and I never understood why. Now I know why.
A very merry and blessed Christmas to everyone in the Crew!!
The scrooge in me hopes they don't blow the money on frivolous things like the folks in New Orleans did. That would be a shame to waste such a generous gift, since most didn't have renter's insurance.
Please let me know if you plan to attend so I can add to the reservation. A few extras one way or the other won't matter to the reservation, so feel free to just drop in if your plans change last minute.
If you posted previously, I have that list, but feel free to post an update if you aren't sure if you posted before!
I was one of those who suggested it, and I'm out of town this weekend! Yesterday was the Wife's family - this weekend is Mom and Dad's in Southern MN. The whole Fam Damily is going to be there so I gotta defrost the air mattress for our sleeping quarters. Have fun!
if you know what I mean. no secret thread this year.
If you can give even $5 to the Cooler Clause  let me know.
Thanks to everyone who has chipped in already.
I have the plan in motion.

Santa is Alive!
A Million dollars doesn't go far when looking at it like that.
I hope they spend the gift wisely.

[Mustaine - Ellefson - Menza - Friedman]
Endangered species, caged in fright
Shot in cold blood, no chance to fight
The stage in set, now pay the price
An ego boost don't think twice
Technology, the battle's unfair
You pull the hammer without a care
Squeeze the trigger that makes you Man
Pseudo-safari, the hunt is canned ...
The hunt is canned
All are gone, all but one
No contest, nowhere to run
No more left, only one
This is it, this is the Countdown to Extinction
Tell the truth, you wouldn't dare
The skin and thophy, oh so rare
Silence speaks louder than words
Ignore the guilt, and take your turn
Liars anagram is "lairs"
Man you were never even there
Killed a few feet from the cages
Point blank, you're so courageous ...
So courageous
[Chorus]
One hour from now
Another species of life form
Will disappear off the face of the planet
Forever ... and the rate is accelerating
heres one for all you marry X-MAS!!!
time for Santa to come...
With all the preparation, it's nice to have it spread out a bit.
Merry Christmas to everyone!
