Golly! I'm racking my brain and I cannot make all these clues fit for one park. ARGH!!!

This clue is fishy.

Something doesn't quite add up.

Maybe it's a clever what it's in clue. Or maybe it's a clue giving you one thing (e.g. the word detention) and the rest is just thrown in to mess with us, not necessarily a red herring but extra info that is useless.

if we're connecting that to Swede I would say the overabundance of trees and the nature area would qualify as a "harbor of arbor"

but when that extra info points specifically to a park that's been hinted at in past clues as well, that turns out NOT to be the park, that's definitely a red herring

I'm with you on that except I think pig is the important word in the clue.

04 was the mosh pit hunt at Phalen. it wasn't found until the morning after the 12th clue was released and thousands of people packed this deep crevice looking for it and then went home. it was supposedly hidden in a green donut referencing the archie and friends comic that came out before that hunt but no donut was ever found. many people think a 2nd medallion was dropped sometime late that night or early morning because they figured if it hadn't been found yet it must be gone (animal got it).

that could be the mystery they want to clear up.

clear up a "cover up", perhaps

tim_the_hunter

yeah I think it very well could be, only the next few clues will tell. if they have a red herring park they will keep it going until the weekend at least.

right, I'm just talking about the idea that one or two key words are used and the rest thrown out. your guess is as good as mine as to what the words are.

yep, especially with the festivities planned for Friday night, I know they don't want it found before then.

part of me wants to reinforce the BC thinking over at the press board, just because I'm convinced it's so far off base.. but the other part of me reminds me of the fact that they're already confusing themselves enough as it is without my help, lol

got the clue downtown - and headed for Phalen...

I live 2 blocks from the park & didnt intend on being out long w/ this clue anyhow...

It's already been posted, so I'm gonna say I like & agree with the water and ice = frost deal....

I dunno though... I'm still leaning towards Swede Hollow.... although the past few days I've been all over that place.... and feel like I need to play elsewhere...

the Hamms mansion - I dunno who posted that, was a good noodle, that I had thought of but hadnt gotten to yet....

Okay, if Palin said she was a "pitbull in lipstick" and the Cluewriter argues that a pig looks better in lipstick, what does he mean? A pig in lipstick makes me think of Ms. Piggy. That thought leads me to The Muppets, which leads me to Kermit the Frog, which, naturally, brings me to THE FROG POND!!!

This is what the clue is referring to: Sarah Palin made this joke, " What's the difference between a hockey mom and a pit bull? Lipstick." The next day, Obama said that "you can put lipstick on a pig, but it's still a pig." This was widely interpreted to mean that he was calling Palin a pig, but he said that he was referring to McCain's policies.

ok just a couple more noodles that haven't been mentioned before I head to bed.

- We'll be "up front"

someone posted about how "up front" could be Frank St. leading to Mounds, but Frank St. also leads directly into Phalen

- Which we hope to bring to the "fore"

Not only the golf course, but Forest St. runs directly into the south end of the golf course

- Approach and have no fear

"approach" is another golf term, "have no fear" the only connection to Phalen I could find is Franklin D. Roosevelt... Roosevelt - Phalen Center... unless of course "have no fear" is a reference to what it's in

alrighty I'm done for the night.. will be out tomorrow checkin out the parks!

Clue #4

Pioneer Press

Updated: 01/20/2009 10:20:12 PM CST

Even those in detention during our recent convention,

Heard a politically hip chick

Is it a pig or pit bull, it was argued most fitful,

That looks more lovely in lipstick?

This may sound like an attempt to MAKE the clues fit, but Palin/phalen could refer to Phalen creek running down Swede Hollow, and the lipstick pig comment could be Hamm's beer (you can dress it up like Stroh's, but it's still Hamm's).

My body will be in Swede Hollow this morning (but my heart will be at Long Lake).

Sounds like a re-run from last year. What park will it be tonight?

I bet it's under a lamppost at Walgreen's, because they sell lipstick.

Wasn't the "bad boy's home" by Swede? I thought I read that. Will now have to find it again. I think that's the important part and the rest is to go along with "convention" - which was chosen to rhyme with "detention."

2. Wilder Residence East, 735 East 7th Street

Lawyer Samuel Mayall built his stone mansion on this site in the 1870's. After the Mayall family left the home in about 1903 it was used as the Nugent Institute, a drug and alcohol program that made the claim to cure or kill. Next it was the City Cycling Club headquarters. In 1908 it was the Parental School and Detention Home, which the neighborhood children called the "Bad Boys Home." Ramsey County soon replaced it with Totem Town. In 1915 the Home for the Friendless purchased the property, and replaced the old stone mansion with the south part of the building that Wilder still occupies today. The Home for the Friendless was started in Lower Town by women from 12 St. Paul churches in 1867 to provide a home for the destitute friendless women and children. They later changed the name to the Protestant Home. As the years passed they found that they were caring for more elderly folks. Today the Wilder Foundation operates the facility.

In 1908 it was the Parental School and Detention Home, which the neighborhood children called the "Bad Boys Home."

Another thought, Is it a pig or bull dog? Is it real or is it Memorex? Is it 'fore' real or a red herring?

"Which way did he go, George? Which way did he go?"

I still think Swede Hollow.
