I am up and about to go out. Will be it park at sunrise. Hope tose ya all out there. I like the low are by wood pile and mid oak. alos like smaalll area o top of hill.
That spot on the hill has "arbor" on three sides of it - the fourth being that concrete wall with "N.P.Ry" directly at eye level. The brush is fairly thick - obscuring views of most of the park - but you can clearly see the red church cross at night from a couple spots.
About 100 feet west of there are those two huge oaks on the lip of the valley above the road - the ones that have the neighbor's brush pile stashed in between them - I know THOSE two tress have been picked at and under thoroughly. They are IMPRESSIVE arbor!
Guys. I'm just no good at calling in Sick to work - hell they'd know something is up - because I never do it. I have work that HAS to get done today. I've hesitated as long as possible this morning and flipped a coin - searching lost.
If Maury and Payne did continue and meet in the park, where would that spot be, since together they'd lead to the gem? Up top? I keep thinking on level with brewery where the mansion used to be.
Poll from the PP carnival page. I wonder when they update this?
Where is the medallion 2?
The last poll leader, Swede Hollow, has been ruled out by some veteran hunters on our Official Treasure Hunt Discussion Boards. NOW where do you think the medallion is?
The image of the masses of people fighting their way up that hill just gave me the first smile of the morning! Thanks Green. I am exhausted, but off to work and then back to the park... good luck all.
The one year we can't make it down and it's the hunt where we've had the park since early on. I wish I could be down there. I have a vague recollection of Swede Hollow, but where near the pond is on the eastern path, the hill isn't so close and it goes back in a way, and is kind of flat. I'd be inclined to look near there. I think they hid it on the side of each path that is away from the creek, for safety's sake. I'm thinking it is southern part of the park, near where the creek is actually flowing through. Try to keep in mind what landmarks they may use. I could see the last clue having you start at a certain entrance (Drewry Lane tunnel, old railroad bridge, stairs up to the Hamm's mansion site), then go down the path to a landmark, then x number of steps to where the site is. Good luck all!
My whole "lust" for that spot on top of the hill deals with pacing off from that "Open" red oak on the point - roughly 50 paces due west takes you to the edge of the "level" ground on that bluff, 67 paces (Boxmeyer's age) takes you almost dead center in the middle of it.
That bluff's 'center' has been dug and molested pretty thoroughly, but a lot of the fringe is still untouched. I strongly suspect its under a part of the path that been hard-packed and no one wants to dig it. I hacked at it pretty good with the flat garden spade last night. My fear is that the clear plastic was actually placed 'naked' under the snow and I split the thing in half with the shovel.
If you dig on that hill, it seems there is very little topsoil. I suspect that hill is a refuse pile of rock from other excavations in the area.
When railroads were built, frequently there are mounds of earth left over. Where my parents live there are "borrow" pits - long flat ditches adjacent to the railroad where they dug up landfill to help make the railroad bed. I cannot think of the name used for the leftover rock piles from digging stuff OUT.
It's not up top. There's nothing middleish about the top. The rivulet doesn't gurgle by at the top. Anything that points to the top is just a park clue.
I know it's away from the area that we'd like it to be in, but has anyone considered the "hole" south of the 7th street bridge?.....we dug there a little bit, the last time we were there it was largely untouched.
I would love to dig.....have to work and its driving me crazy!!! Just came back from maternity leave. Good luck everyone! May be down there Wed night if its not found.
Soooooooo.... we know the park. Do ANY of these clues point to a hiding ITEM?
EVERYONE seems to think it's in some sort of box - my point is that because it hasn't been found yet it might be in something smaller, more subtle - any ideas?
Bag of dog treats? Freakin' white yarn pouch again?
I brought this up to Art last night while digging - what if I hacked the puck in two with the shovel and only half of it gets found right away - do you scramble to the PP with only half a puck or do you stay and dig - possibly having to share with someone nearby?
Swede Hollow, St. Paul (This photo is a good close up of how the houses/shacks were situated). From Mn History Society site. Note the two houses sitting in the way back built on top of some kind of shelf into the bluff. I wonder how the house didn't fall off. If you go the the link and click on the photo 2 times, it will enlarge.
I'm starting to think that as well - so my hacking the thing in two theory may happen.
I dunno about hiding it in something beer-related - they got a lot of flack over the Skoal tin. Maybe something cute like a Hamm's Toy Bear, but a beer case / can I'd think less likely. Hamm's beer cans were white, but is that idea shot down by the metal detector hunts?
There was a beautiful brush pile ready for burning down near the smiley pond a couple days ago - the whole pile has been decimated and scattered in a big mess.

Meshing, blending? House and brewery?

And, last but not least, the 12th Clue Mad Dash would take quite awhile goin up.
I can't get out there this morning. Work needs doing so that's where I'll be.
Maybe we'll get out there this evening.
Best of luck to those out there! Coolerheads will prevail!!!!

The "barrow" or now "borrow" is the stuff that has been removed.
When piled up it is referred to as a "barrow" or "borrow" pile.
If it is left on site after the project is finished, it is
sometimes called a spoils pile.
Are we going to set up the conference call tonight for clue 11?
unless i somehow convinced an entire town..
(if thats the case don't ever let me pick in the park pool again)
oh god..
I blame myself.
Use the arrow head formed by Payne, Preble, and Beaumont
to point across the Hollow.
Draw diagonals in the Preble, Maury, Drewry, Beaumont grid square.
They cross on top of the little bluff.
I'll be there though, hopefully before noon
This year has to be a first for giving us the name of the park in anagrams so often, doens't it?
I'm glad it was SH. It just seems to me so Boxmeyer-y. That's why I picked it to begin with.

hamm from toystory
anything is possible. They get flack now and again for this type of stuff and also for where it's hidden (when outside St Paul) but they do it anyway.
