I'm trying to decide what to bring. I usually whip up a batch of baked ziti, but since Yaruso's is giving us a tray of pasta it doesn't seem like there's much of a point in me bringing ziti.

Bring something you like to eat because with so much food there, there will likely be few empty pans coming back. So assuming you'll have leftovers, it should be something you like.

We are bringing egg rolls and cream cheese jalapeno wontons...kind of like a cross between jalapeno poppers and cream cheese wontons. OH! and some mini-eclair things I picked up a week or so ago.

None of it really has the connection to the hunt this year, but the area has a huge Asian community now . I was amazed one day at the new Cub by Phalen....they have a huge Asian aisle. I must have spent 20 minutes in that area just oohing and aahing at all the interesting things!

Remind me mom - I have some button money for you.

I spent part of the evening slogging through some of the 1998 hunt thread. I end up doing that at some point every year.

So where the 4377 is green? I hope she shows tomorrow.

The button money you have is *extra* and can go toward the pot....lodge, prizes whatever. I have set aside the amount that it cost to produce this year's buttons (never did find the $ from last year - probably in the bottom of a drawer somewhere), so anything over that is gravy!

I was hoping you had heard from Green....as you know I call her each morning - but I was not able to get a hold of her the past couple of days. Hope everything is okay with her.
Sat, 01/31/2009 - 8:52 PM Permalink

Then I'll throw that money in the pot.

Not heard from her and she hasn't posted here for a couple/few days.

From Greg Sax - the first CC buttons.

Hey, I got a new motto for the PPMCC. Something catchy, retro, and easy to put on a button:

You dig?

I'll make 'em if you'll buy 'em. Take it easy, all

Heh - too cool. I may have to get in and slog some of that myself. On the other hand, that might keep me up all night!

I'm still slogging it. Coffee urn can't be found at your folks place is where I'm at.

Button conversation flying back and forth.

Green mentioned potato salad awhile back.

DDY posted he'd be at the Rehash.

Hollywood, Ian, so many others.

I don't know what, after all these years, brings me to slog that hunt every year. It's an addiction.

planning on going.... still no idea what to bring. Was looking up Swedish dishes-I don't have any cheese curds, spoiled milk, or blood laying around so making a traditional dish is out. I live too far to make anything hot...

We were planning on going to the parade tonight.

That changed when Inks got a kink in his back - probably from helping me turn my mom's mattress for her. He's been on the heating pad and ibuprofen for much of the afternoon and evening.

Hope it's better tomorrow.

But we'll be there anyways.

It sure does match up with the hunt... Swedish food is closer to Japanese foods, than it's Germanic neighbors cuisine.

Seeing names as I slogged that 1998 hunt thread - Nimrod, BeeyoB, SueBee, Eagle Eye, David Allison, Greg Sax, Mom, greensleeves2, The Clue Master, Cheryl Straight, Black Widow, and so many others...

Makes me so grateful that some have stayed with this over the years.

Makes me miss those that aren't around.

And eternally grateful that Joe-Joe Medallion got lost! :pbpt:

Oh Terry...was just thinking the same thing. I'm thinking I want to get in and format all of that for printing - would be really cool to read through. It's giving me sparklies!

What ever happened to Pat Pfundstein and Hollywood I wonder?

Thought I'd share this from Greg Sax who wasn't able to attend the first Rehash:

Greg Sax - 01:43am Feb 8, 1998 CST (#8046 of 8458)

All is now quiet on this eve before rehash

As I wish I could be at the inaugural bash.

But, alas, I am stuck oh so far and away

No coffee, no sloppy joe, no Frito-Lay.

But I'm glad to have made my mark

In the snow at Cherokee Park

With a shovel in the dark

Gnashing like a shark

In ground not bark

Happy as a lark

Hark?

Hark.

Hark.

Holly Wood - 03:48pm Feb 8, 1998 CST (#8052 of 8458)

(Counting Off 10 Paces on the Walk of Fame)

Amen to all of that Sue Bee! I have just returned from the bash myself and have followed Mr. Sax's (your 3 friends are great Greg!)lead in adding a rhyme to the cooler log:

The hunt may be done but the spirit lives on,

The crew will have fun though the clues have now gone.

Our singular quest became our common denominator,

Despite the bad news on the backyard thermometer.

The next year's months will come and will go,

But none will compare with this last in the snow.

When the time rolls around for the '99 search,

I'll be back here again, on my computer chair perch!

Thanks again everyone and another round of applause to Green for her leadership and to the champions Steve and Maureen for showing up today and sharing their tale (and their beer!)....

And last, but certainly not least....

Dave Young - 11:14am Feb 9, 1998 CST (#8074 of 8458)

Hey, folks! I had a good time at the bash yesterday! Lots of good food! It was the first time I had corn-on-the-cob at a picnic in February! Lots of wonderful people! Those of you who didn't come missed a good one! Thank you, Greensleeves, for your work on this project!

Let's have a "pre-hunt" party next year on the night the first clue comes out for the water cooler gang. We could meet at some local eating establishment. Someone in the group could wait at the Pioneer Press building and get the first newspaper out and bring it over to the group and read the first clue to the rest.

Next year during the hunt, how about everyone in the water cooler gang wrapping a band of duct tape around the left sleeve of their jackets while digging so the rest of us will know which ones are in the water cooler gang? You can use duct tape for everything else; this would be the newest use!

Have fun, gang!

Is there a map to Rehash? Google only has Front Ave, not street; is it near engergy park drive?
Sun, 02/01/2009 - 7:00 AM Permalink
Terry

Energy Park Drive is the same as Front St...but on opposite sides of Lexington. Energy Park is west of Lexington but turns into Front on the east side of Lexington.

To get to the lodge, from Lexington, go east one block on Front. (The cross street there is Oxford.) The lodge is on the south side of Front. Big, white, with a parking lot on the west side and on street parking.

The Rehash Bash is on the lower level so when you enter, you'll want to go downstairs.

Maybe it is Avenue, I always forget. But yes, it is right by Energy Park Drive which ios west of Lexington and Front is east of Lexington.

Hey, Mike, great to bump into you last night. I had really hoped I'd make it to the Rehash Bash this year but, instead, I am packing and leaving for the airport (Back to work I must go:-( shortly.

I hope everyone has a great time. Perhaps, next year, I will meet more of you out digging or, perhaps, at the Pre-dig Bash.

Wish I could be there with y'all today!

Instead, I'm cleaning and reorganizing my office, and drinking coffee from my "Friends Don't Let Friends Eat Lutefisk" mug.

Hope to hear a detailed account of all that transpired at the RHB today, but do know that I am there in spirit.

Maybe I'll be moved back there before the 2010 hunt. I know, I said that last year, and then the economy had other ideas...

If anybody saw or found a garage door opener remote, it belongs to SnowJester. It fell off of her purse while we were at the lodge for the Re-Hash. If anyone finds it, could you please call me at 651-485-8037. Thanks, good to see everybody and the food was awesome!

Food was awesome as always!

We were happy the finders showed. They are simply awesome.

The dad said the money is gone, but the memories of this with his daughter will last forever. Very touching.

Lilslim did an awesome song for everyone before the door prize drawings. Wow!

Where the heck was ares and Sue?!?!?!? Missed you both!

So many familiar faces. Good to meet some new ones as well. Morgaine was there. Nice to meet and chat with her for awhile.

Queen Malley - you won a door prize. I will keep it for you and we'll just have to hook up somewhere - maybe for Allison's hunt in March?

For all the food and wonderful desserts - the one that got the most comments were the medallion cookies done by Downtown Dave and his bride. They had photoshopped the bulldog from the PP and found some red lips to superimpose and attached those with a bit of frosting to the top of the cookies - served in a Hamm's beer tray.

Regman won an embroidered Cooler Crew hooded sweatshirt for raking the puck into the creek.

Fun door prizes including cans of Hamm's beer for the 21 and over crowd. Funny how the kids' numbers kept getting drawn for that.

Some headed over to Yarusso's afterwards. Inks back is still bothering him a bit, so we came home for some ibuprofen and the heating pad.

I know pictures will be posted. The memories from year to year are awesome.

What a super group of folks.

I had a really fun time passing out door prizes with me2 again this year. The song by Lilslim was awsome! Thanks to everyone that showed up!! This was a success because of you! I counted 56 tickets and one person didn't get one, (2 if you count MM's baby) so that was 58 (plus me = 59) people that showed up. Missed some of the regulars though...

Not as young as youz used to be, heh?

There was some discussion between those of us arriving on time today to the rehash bash, wondering if this annual event should get moved to Saturday. That, then, wouldn't interfere with the Super Bowl events and could tie in nicely as a day of Winter Carnival activities. (Rehash pot luck, parade, dance, and whatever you guys were doing until 4:30 this morning.)

Let's have that conversation and make some decisions. (Of course this could be an issue if the medallion is found late on the Friday night or early Saturday of that weekend tucked in the middle of the hunt.)

Had a blast as always great to see everyone one last time. I know there are mock hunts and other stuff through out the year but going from daily seeing you to once every 2-3 months or something is going to put me into withdrawl as always. I vow and I want someone to hold me to it I vow to do a minimum of 2 mock hunts this year! Someone needs to drag me out there! Who's up for the challenge hahaha

Yes, we did discuss a bit moving the Rehash to Saturday next year amongst the few of us there early. Here's some of our logic in case anyone has any counterarguments.

Why Sunday is bad-

1. Some people go to church in the morning which makes it hard to get organized to head to the RHB by noon.

2. Many CoolerCrew members are out late on Saturday night with the Vulcan Victory dance and end up being too tired or hungover to want to get up and be somewhere by noon.

3. Many people fell pinched for time with Superbowl parties they need to get to that often start by 3pm.

Why Saturday might be good- People could make a day of it in St. Paul. Attend the RHB and maybe even linger a bit longer. Check out the park afterwards and/or head to a bar. Then get some dinner and grab a spot for the Torchlight Parade. That in turn might inspire more people to go to the Vulcan Victory dance and the whole day could be one great Winter Carnival party with all of Sunday to recover.

Mad_Dach5und

Sounds like a plan. If people were going to the 6:00 torchlight parade, would you have to break up the party at 5:00 or so to get a curbside seat?
