note the e-mail scam. They just want your e-mail - opt out? yeah right. by that time they have sent/sold your e-mail to 50 companies.

I'm already getting inendated with e-mails on an account I've really only been extremely active for 2 months now. (alot to me is 5 a day).

My aol account is up over 800 - I can't keep up - probably 30+ junk a day that gets through.

I would love the free sub, the free ice cream the free pop the free giftcards

I just find theres just always a catch. even the free grandslam meant 2 hours of time (life) waiting in line for a $5 meal.

Amen to that.

I never got my free coupon for a Dr. Pepper, even though I spent HOURS trying to get on the website to get one.

Just remember, there is no such thing as a free lunch  Even the freebie stuff you have to work for.

Sorry man, didn't mean it that way. Thanks for the info

Along with that no free lunch deal also is the don't look a gift horse in the mouth.

In fact, that's one of the great things about this forum, people let each other know about a lot of good information. Shoot, half the time I'm here I'm looking for the lastest news, giveaways, contests, freebies, or general info on what's going on in the area.

So thanks EVERYONE for contributing

So my wife just got a new job and had to clean out her desk, so what does she bring home... She kept the paper of the 2007 medallion hunt with the articles and the photos of Jake and I. She never told me, it made me so happy. I clipped out the article and put it into a photo album. She is the best.

Hey gang - I need a favor. Can someone put an opening bid on this item? I didn't sell it last week, and am still trying to sell it. I'm thinking that if there's a bid on it, someone else will try to steal it for a deal and put a bid in, but to start with, I just need the ball rolling:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220366723546

If your bid ends up "winning" - of course, I won't make you pay for it. Appreciate the help!

Back when the kids were little, they, one evening, thought it would be fun to use their water guns and shoot at the ceiling.

Our ceilings are what they now call popcorn textured. Of course that water caused the popcorn texture to fall off.

Inks did some spackling or some such thing and tried to imitate the popcorn and repaired the damage at that time. We then painted all of the ceiling.

So I've had this thing lately about how nice it would be to have either flat ceilings, or ones that were textured simply with a swirl or something similar.

So this week Inks decided to start in the bathroom to see how it would go.

HUGE MESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And because the ceiling had been painted, water wouldn't penetrate so it meant lots of scraping. And the spot that was spackled many years ago, needed to be sanded.

Once he started though, there was no turning back.

The popcorn is gone from the ceiling, the spackle spot has been sanded smooth, he has bought tape and taping compound for where the ceiling meets the walls, and has to do a skim coat over the rest of the ceiling. That process will continue probably this weekend and into next week. Once it's all coated, taped and primed, we can paint, repair a small spot on the one wall, change the light fixture, and paint.

I have a whole new appreciation for popcorn ceilings. We will NOT be doing that in the rest of the house.

Popcorn ceilings are beautiful!!!!!

Changing from popcorn ceiling to a "knock down" ceiling is just madness. We too have an appreciation for popcorn ceilings... :lipsealed:

we're actually not fans of the popcorn ceilings. the whole purpose of them is to cover up the sins of the guys who do the taping. and then you look at our ceilings. and you can see every single tape line between every single sheet of drywall on the ceilings in our house where its popcorn covered.

btw, we've got a guy who does taping, mudding, and painting if you'd like his number

Actually, we uncovered some decent taping in the bathroom. We need to do the ceiling to wall portions as the scraping and sanding left a bit of a mess.

Those ceilings were all the rage in their day. When we first bought this house, the ceiling in the living room and hallway had small pieces of glass that sparkled. Quite classy back in the day. And so for now, there will be no more talk about redoing them. Nope. The mess isn't worth it.

I LOVE MY POPCORN CEILINGS!!!

they make actual inside corners which are paper with a metal "L" piece in a 90 degree corner for those purposes. basically you glue them in place and tape around them.

my aunt does faux finishes on walls and what they found when having a hosue built is that these days if you want untextured walls you end up paying a premium for it. mostly because the tapers can't do a half-assed job that the texturer will cover up for 'em. imagine that. hving to pay more to have a job done right.

We know about the L thingys.

I suspect that after this housing glut, when new homes are built, there may need to be some pride in a job well done. The competition for housing dollars is going to be fierce for quite awhile.

When we built our house we had a choice to have popcorn ceiling or pay an extra $1,500 for knock down. It sounded like a lot of money but now I wish I had it.

<popcorn ceilings are beautiful>

hehehehe did that done that

I also tackled the ceiling and won. you definately have to clear the room out and lay plastic down (in my case I was getting rid of the carpeting in the near future so it didnt matter how wrecked the carpet got).

that is damn hard work!!! however, it was fun to spray with water and scrape - just hard on the arms and neck. I give Inks high credit for working on it. a huge accomplishment and feeling when its done. I think you should both go lay some pillows down on the floor and lay down and just look up  I do have to say I heart my flat ceilings... my bedroom and the livingroom have them because of a ton of hard work. We had the kitchen professionally done and those contractors only did popcorn ceilings so the kitchen has popcorn -which I do regret.

One of my daughters removed the popcorn in my kitchen. My parents had it sprayed back when that was all the rage. Fortunately they only did it in the kitchen. Poor Angela did the job and I felt so sorry for her, but once you start you can't stop. She had that gunk all over her when she was done. I hosed her down in the back yard. We laughed, we cried, but in the we were really happy to have it gone.

NOOOOOO!!!!! I was going to go there for lunch on my spring break! This is the second year in a row that one of my favorite eating establishments has been damaged by a fire. Last year, my favorite bar Maxwell's burned down and now Yarusso's! If mother nature lays a finger on White Castle I am really going to be really pissed!

Mad_Dach5und

EXACTLY! I dunno who has their manager's cell phone number, but I'd definitely like to be there for the re-opening. Anyone who finds that out PLEASE post it here A.S.A.P.

Art: Which White Castle do you most frequent? (Just curious)

Another Q: Anyone know if the newer Sonic Drive Ins are up and running yet? The one between Ruth and White Bear is closest to my home, but just curious to know...

I think it's a really good idea for someone here (ahem cm) to contact them soon and let them know what the Cooler Crew would like to do... I'm sure they won't have any answers quickly about when they may be open again but just so they know we all care.

So just about anywhere we try to go...something happens... ie: mattyB's, rockin lobster, now yarussos. and the curse of the movie on top of it. hmmm

Subject: Reservations

Dear friends at Yarusso Bros:

It was posted on our double super secret Cooler message board this morning about the fire that you folks had last night. We're so sorry to hear that you're going through a rough time, and we're confident that you're going to come back better than ever. A restaurant like yours isn't so much a place to eat as a historical landmark.

The Cooler Crew is big on historical landmarks, in fact, we know where most of 'em are in St. Paul, and when we like one, we don't like seeing it go. So if you don't mind, we'd like you to let us know when the grand re-opening of Yarusso Bros. will be once you get through reconstruction. You were so kind and generous to the entire Cooler Crew during the medallion hunt this past year, we'd be honored if we could be your first customers when you reopen. So - got enough room for table of 150? We're big eaters. Keep the bar open too.

See you soon!

Trygve Olsen
