For starters, they have names that are hard to spell or even pronounce...

Oh, wait! That's usually the kickers...

Ivey has won 2 bracelets in 2009 so far Ivey had a disappointing WSOP last year after betting big on himself to win his sixth bracelet. He increased the bets on himself this year, which turned out to be a good investment. Ivey told PokerNews that he scooped all his bets after winning the second bracelet. (At least one player bought out of the bet.) The amount of money he won in side action is still up for debate, and I've heard reliable numbers ranging from $6 million to $12 million. (Remember that Ivey wasn't betting at even odds, so he didn't have to risk that much himself.) Regardless of the real number, it's clear that Ivey is the big winner of this WSOP, both in terms of dollars, prestige, and legendary status.

stolen comment from the strib web site:

A purple kool-aid induced MOP of the Day:

[bonus points if you remember what MOP stands for]

If Favre leads the Vikes to their first Super Bowl victory, will you be more:

a) happy that they finally did it!

b) annoyed how itÂ’s ALL about Favre, or

c) angry that it will mean a contract extension for Chili?

my vote is c.

as the world turns

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - Brett Favre boarded a plane today (Tuesday) at 9:10 a.m. at the Hattiesburg Laurel Regional Airport.

The plane's destination was St. Paul, Minnesota.

Sources said Favre boarded by himself and commented, "We may know something by dinner."

Rumors have been passed around in recent weeks that Favre, a former Green Bay Packers and New York Jets quarterback would join the Minnesota Vikings before the end of the preseason.

The Browns open for the regular season against the Vikings on Sept. 13.

The commissioner of this group has sent the following note:

--------------------------------------------------------

Hi there all you Vikings fans. Brad here. Upon hearing the big news of our old rival Favre signing with the Vikes, it prompted me to get this board started once again. This board has been going on for lots of fun years and many of you have been there from the start. It's free as always and we really don't compete for anything more than that week's bragging rights. So if you miss a week, don't worry about it. But you can always pick your winning teams ahead of time and can always edit your picks up until 5 minutes before game time. Some of you smarter fans pick the whole year right off the bat so you won't ever miss a week. Signing up is easy. Please come join us and forward to your friends as well. The more the merrier. Be looking for us hanging out in a suite at this Friday's game that's supposed to be Favre's first start with the Vikes. Regardless of how you feel about this costly venture, I hope it pays off with a first time championship. Thanks for your participation and GO VIKES!!!!!!

I agree - he has no loyalty to a one year 16 game contract.

IF he plays in every game.... that's 750 thousand dollars a night!!!! WTF!?

okay technically he does have to practice sooooo 50 thousand for practicing and 700 thousand a game!

I was more impressed by the backup defense guys than the rest of the team - those 2nd stringers really played like their careers were on the line - which they are.

Favre : 1 for 4 with 4 yards passing - and he didn't explode into a ball of flame when he stepped on the field in a purple uniform. Sorry cheeseheads.
