Speaking of personalized plates, I just got a Honda Pilot (from Chris Digger - woo!) and I wanted to get "God is Co-" for a license plate. but first, the dash had to go to make seven characters. Then I realized it all had to be bunched together, to say GODISCO. Then I realized that if you misinterpret the spacing it says "GO DISCO."

Yeah, they created that option for those people who have tons of vacation banked that now have to use it or lose it by the end of the year. This is the first year that they've done that. Too many people with too much time on the books. (me not ever being one of them of course)
I like the working from home for 1 day every other week but wished it was for 1 day every week instead.
Don't work from home. Me2 is there, you'll be...um...busy.
Seriously, I think it's a pain to work from home. Everything that you have to do at home is just sitting there staring at you, so it's sooo difficult to maintain a work/life balance when everything's all there. I've done the 40 hr/4 day work week, it's actually great.
Thanks for the insight. I can totally understand what you're talking about. Although they seem to frown every time I show up to work in my underwear. I'm hoping to avoid that.
The hubby just did this during their slow time... they ended up going to 4 - 10hrs days. But there day off was either Tues/Wed/Thurs to make it fair to everyone. It worked out very well as he was able to get those "household" chores done so his weekends were free.
I agree with RB - don't work from home. You have to be a very disiplined person to be able to work from home and pull it off or it can seriously backfire on you. working form home winter is one thing - but summer?!?! You would never be able to do it.
We had "summer hours" at my last job. We could choose between four 8.5-hours days and six hours on Fridays OR four 9-hour days and four hours on Fridays.
(Four is a weird word, isn't it?)
I loved it. Hardest part was going back to normal hours in the fall.
Friends who have done the every-other-week thing tell me they'd rather have something consistent so each week is the same set-up.
Ten-hour days can seem long, but I work best when I can just have a long uninterrupted stretch of work time, so I don't mind it - would rather have the whole extra day off each week.
I love working at home. My situation is a bit unusual, but it works for me. If you have the opportunity to *try* it, it might surprise you, but yes you do have to set your intentions for the day and not let yourself get (too) distracted from them. Oops! I'd better get back on task here...LOL.
I do that all the time! I'll write something and a word will stand out and I wonder who thought of that? lol Wish I could remember some of my favorites. Although, "wish" is kind of odd, don't you think?
Getting the longer weekend is always a benefit, but if they negotiate for 'different' off days, chances are only one in five you'll get Friday off.
Working from home really DOESN'T work unless you can really keep your work space separate from 'home' - like, the root cellar or something. I've got a couple friends working from home and they really had to claim a room by itself completely as a work space and nothing else in order to get stuff done. No TV!
We came up with this idea over lunch: Has anyone tried 4 10s with alternating Friday's and Monday's off? This way you would still be working 4 days a week but would get a 4 day weekend every other week. Anyone try this before?
I can't separate a space for work even though I have a separate computer room.
I BETTER have a job by then. I spent almost 3 hours on one application for an admin position with Fort Snelling alone. I'm so sick of looking for work! and with summer coming it's gonna be harder on the psyche.
I like the 10 hour days too. once in a groove it can be hard to shut down and go home at 5.
I found "working from home" - ie: looking for a job online... I did get somewhat distracted on starting later in the day however if the television was on I really didnt watch it and it was more background noise. I would get frustrated cause I missed a part in the tv show cause I would get caught up on line searching and reading through hundreds of job expectations.
I apply for about 3-4 postitions for every 500 I search through.
the hardest part is not knowing who to directly contact for a follow-up call. I searched over an hour for a fax# or phone number for Target Corp dt Minneapolis last week and came up with nothing AFTER I applied for 2 positions there (1 got filled but don't know how to yell "pick me"!).
At our work, we tried out flex time. Those who wanted to do it could do one week (5 days) of 8 hour days, then the next week (4 days) of 10 hour days with a flex day off. Last year we did it all as a group and we alternated Fridays and Mondays off. This year we're doing it in separate groups and we're alternating Mondays off, that way those who want Fridays off have a better chance of requesting it off.
I think if we did it each week it would be easy to get used to. With the alternating weeks it's hard to get used to it. It is nice though to have that extra day off.
Well, plenty of worries and responsibility, it's just a diversion for a little while... kind of.
I got to play with an ipod touch a few weeks ago, I think it's essentially an iphone without the phone. It connects to the internet via wifi. I have a small laptop I'm considering taking that I could try and connect at hotspots along the ways. Regardless, I won't get a lot of time online while I'm out, and when I do, I need to spend it on my job search.
Most truck stops have wifi and it takes more than 3 minutes to refuel, so you'll have plenty of time. It might be a good idea to use Outlook for email, so you can download everything to read and respond later on while you are on the go.
Mister Master I was just wondering if you could flip and flop weeks...front stack one and back stack the next- I did it for years and it's wonderful-especially if you can factor in a half day Saturday. Sat 7-11, m-w 7-7:30. Off thur fri sat sun mon then Tue -fri 10 hrs... 5 days off every other week burning no vaca-..Garden looks good, a little quality time away from the family and all the chores done!
I just got a facebook page! Wow, I thought I knew how to waste time before- I have gone macro- wasting virtual time growing a pretend garden and having my sister send me cyber-drinks!
My only reservation is that everyone I have looked up from my youth has become middle aged!!!! It's some kind of twisted twilight zone-esque "you've openned a door to your past, be afraid of who will come knocking" feeling.
Oh, and I feel quirky asking people I haven't seen in 25 years "will you be my friend?"
So, Cooler crew, will you be my friend? My facebook name is Conrad E. Lee. Anyone else have a facebook? I've been with it for about 4 days..
Sounds good NR but I need to share coverage. So far the 4 day weekend every other week is sounding good but I might get a different job so it would all be for naught anyway. :frown:
I just got a facebook page! Wow, I thought I knew how to waste time before-
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA
I'm on the verge of getting a face. I'm literally being peer pressured in to it. There are ALOT of coolercrew on it now. I have a 20 yr reunion coming up and supposedly Im on the "missing list" so I know I will get bombarded with just that..."will you be my friend" after 20 years?
soooo, I'm searching for work online and come across a government job.

Looks like I'm not the norm - TC in the top 5
_ 40 hours in 4 days with 1 day off per week
_ 40 hours in 4 8 hour days with vacation pay for 1 day a week
_ 40 hours in 5 days working from home 1 day every other week
_ 40 hours in 4 9 hour days and 1 half day
Pros / Cons?
ty
_ 40 hours in 4 9 hour days and 1 half day (fridays being the half day)
or
4x10 with day off...as long as you get the 3 day weekend..
_ 40 hours in 4 8 hour days with vacation pay for 1 day a week
looks like the worst option...unless you have a boatload of vacation days to use
I like the working from home for 1 day every other week but wished it was for 1 day every week instead.

The 4 10's are looking better and better.

what a fun thing to do. no worries no responsibility. way nice.
whitney bought an I-Touch - you can get online from anywhere and it doesn't cost $$ anything for internet access. its pretty cool. about $220.
