Like any other system on a computer, facebook itself runs ok. When you start adding a ton of applications to it, it starts to bog down. Also, the more things you do on it, the more of a time sink it becomes.

It is a good social networking site though, I've found it indispensable in keeping in touch with family and friends. If you're able to keep the extra "add ons" to a minimum, it would probably be fine for anyone to use.

Sounds like your issue might be browser related? What one are you using?

I had the same problem with Facebook on the Firefox Browser. Some portions (mostly pictures) refused to load correctly.

If I changed the "Character Encoding" setting from default to something else, it would re-load correctly, but eventually it would screw up again. It started happening on EVERY web page - I tried to do a Google image search, and only 8-9 of the 16 thumbnails would show up. If I hit 'refresh', four more thumbnails would load and one of the previous thumbnails would disappear. It was just maddening. I even upgraded the browser to the newest version of Firefox and it STILL kept happening.

I can't remember exactly how it got fixed - it had something to do with purging all cache files and preferences. I think I had to go into the system preferences / application preferences / firefox and just dump everything except the bookmarks file.

I think its some sort of Javascript bug that does it - so try shutting off all Java preferences, dump the cache, and re-start the program. Something like that is what fixed it for me.

And make sure you have the newest version of the Java runtimes too.

Thats what I think too. I have the latest updates to that and flash. Maybe Norton screwing with it?

possibly... or a screwed up update or install.

Try uninstalling java and/or flash, then reinstall them. See if that solves the issue. If not, then the solution gets more interesting/involved.

Tyr using Firefox instead of Internet Explorer. If that works, we know the problem is with your browser.

mrmnmikey

You might be onto something with the update being screwed up. I tried uninstalling flash and java before and had nothing but problems so I'm gonna pass on that option. I only have problems with facebook so I'll just live with it for now. KInda wierd that when I played with the setting for google toolbar it started working for a while and then the problem came back.

I really should take your suggestion and use firefox. Just have to find the time to install it someday.

I suppose I could try repairing IE too.

I may have fixed the problem. I changed my IE settings under tools>options>General tab>Browsing History>Settings> and checked update on every visit to the page instead of "automatically". Seems to be working better now. Seems I missed a lot of messages and stuff because it wasn't updateing.

Interesting.. well hopefully that solves the issue for you.

I'd be curious as to why that solution works though.

Not sure why it works but I have not had a problem since the change.

Ares: Here's a Q that the iPhone App maker may be able to answer...

There is a common problem that numerous people are posting on message boards, but no one seems to have a solution. Apple Support is surprisingly moot and THEIR support message board has absolutely no messages about it - makes me think they are trying to hide it and this is a big problem for them.

The Mac OS X desktop has this 'Dashboard' application, which is really just a bunch of mini apps (a.k.a. 'Widgets') that can be placed on the desktop. Very similar to the iPhone.

The Widgets all have a few preferences in them that can be tweaked depending on what it is used for, but Fonts (text appearance) is generally not one of them. When the System is first installed, the Widgets' default text is something basic, like Times Roman font - easily readable.

The Dashboard application itself has a preferences menu where you can toggle on/off and install new Widgets. When I first went into that app and shut off a few of the 'garbage' Widgets that I did not want, the default font on ALL the Widgets changed to a white outline text - like Helvetica Bold. This fine white hollow line text is freakin' impossible to read on many of these Widgets.

Someone posted on a message board that it had to do with the CSS scripting when EACH of the Widgets were installed and that you had to make a new script for EACH to change them back. I think that's a load of crap because EVERY little Widget - even ones pre-installed from the system default - have this crappy font. EVERY message complaining about it has the same outline font showing up.

I've looked into all the scripting I can find in the system files for both the 'Dashboard' App and each of the Widgets and cannot find any command lines related to fonts (except the Notepad which is supposed to have font changing ability). This turkey is something in the main system OS but I got no clue where to go looking for it. Aside from re-installing the whole software package, you got any idea where to look?

The capability to invert the display is a feature of the Intel i845 video chipset. Rotation is enabled by default and is activated by the default key combination down, hence why the display may rotate when playing certain games with the keyboard. If you are experiencing this problem, you can disable the rotate feature.

To disable the Rotate feature, right click the Intel Extreme Graphics icon on the taskbar, select Graphics Options, then Graphics Properties. Click on the rotation tab and remove the tick from the enable rotation box. Alternatively it can be accessed from Display Properties - Settings - Advanced - Intel Extreme Graphics - Graphics Properties.

I'm unemployed

I want to set it up so people can reach me to do research for them.

I get e-mails with people asking me about what I can get and how much to do it, I'd rather just have them see the site.
