Your hint for #9 is that the placement of the hidden clue is significant.

ok well we figerd that out!! we think but now how to get the right answer out of what we found!?!?!

We already had that part figured out. We are just having trouble figuring out what to do with the result. Does the hidden clue have any significance other than what we've figured out?

You'll have to tell me what you're thinking.

It's starting to sound like #9 might be too hard. I might substitute a different puzzle for it tomorrow if no one has solved it by then. And just to be clear, when I say too hard, I mean it may be unfair with the steps you need to go through to solve it. Although it does confirm my theory that this would make a great secret code if we ever needed one.

I am still stuck on the keys. I can't see the pattern. I really can't find it. Is it something that requires a bit of math, or not?

Don't balk at #9 yet - someone behind (like myself) may just catch it in a minute.

I PMed you.

give us time...we got months...remember...

which one is the paint palette??

I've lost count...

regman

That's 9. Watch Kitch get it in like 30 seconds.

And AW, I definitely think someone will figure it out... I am pretty sure we have what we need--we just need to figure out how to make an answer out of it. We have been getting really lucky in that, for pretty much every puzzle, our initial intuitions were correct and one of the first couple things we tried ended up getting us the answer. This one has just stumped us for a couple days, but that doesn't mean we wont get it in the next couple months or that someone else won't have the right idea right away. And don't give BFG any help... I want us to get this without him just getting hints out of people

I'm just glad there's a help thread outside of here for when I start to dive into this. Just glad we have months instead of hours to get through these.

your fun to read Terry.

I'm still on puzzle 2 because I have not had the time (knowing I have months).

I don't know if my PMs came through, but I PMed you a succession of hints. Let me know if you'd rather I e-mail you?

I got the messages - problem is they came in backwards - newest one shows up first. Another puzzle yet to solve....

I gonna say it now - I'm rather pissed at myself - I got to the Keys with the counter at "2" - now it's at something like "53".

Since last night, I'm working on the trivia question. Puzzle #7, if I'm counting correctly.

Is everyone (who has worked it) seeing it in that weird font?
Fri, 05/22/2009 - 9:35 AM Permalink
Allison Wonderland

That weird font is the correct font this time because that one is actually a picture. So I know it isn't just the font getting substituted like it did in some of the others.

Did you solve that puzzle? Are you on the "Where are we" puzzle yet?
Fri, 05/22/2009 - 8:31 PM Permalink
Mad_Dach5und

"Where are we" is "Where I'm At" = Puzzle 8

I'll be staying there for a while now - gonna go camping for a couple days - don't spill ANY answers, now!

I just got to where are we as of about 5 minutes ago.

Progress!

Allison - the hidden clue in #9, did that get deleted when you put the google ads in? Or where the heck is it?

Allison,

Two of us working on puzzle #9 have described the color names that we see, and just like with the key colors, we are each seeing different colors than the other person.

One person sees, from the top moving counter clockwise,

brown

Purple

Med. blue

brick red

pink

magenta

navy blue

lilac

green

I see, from the top moving clockwise,

brownish orange (but more orange and definitely not brown)

eggplant

medium blue

dark burnt sienna or dark orange (nothing red about it, not even a bit)

mauve

fuschia/magenta

dark blue (not quite navy)

purple (not lilac)

a slightly yellowish green

So, it seems I am seeing some of the colors the same as she is, but others not.

Will the appearance of the colors affect whether we can solve the puzzle?
Mon, 05/25/2009 - 5:42 PM Permalink
Mad_Dach5und

The appearance of color doesn't change - more your monitor settings (or color blindness) that may make a difference. It is very easy to get radically different colors from two monitors - even if they are both calibrated carefully.

Purple and eggplant are both 'purple-ish' by most standards. That's why at work we have customers lock in a Pantone color from a pre-set book of colors so there is no way anyone's eyes or equipment can screw it up. Often we even have to run small samples to test colors because even the computers can't get the balance right.

FYI: The two 'reddish-brown' colors on the picture are the EXACT same - Photoshop tested. (close to Pantone 174c if you care to know)

Eags

I can understand that our monitors, or even our vision, might have us seeing different colors.

However, she is seeing two very different colors for the reddish-brown colors.

Mine are identical or nearly identical, and there is no way I would have called either of them brown, nor would I have used the word reddish for either of them. They are orange with a hint of brown.

Does this discrepancy in how the two of us are seeing the colors affect the solving of the puzzle?

If her reddish browns are brown and reddish brown, but distinctly different from one another; and my reddish browns are orange, and if color is even important in this puzzle, it seems there might be a problem for at least one of us as we attempt to solve the puzzle.

For what it's worth - the palette appears to not been used. I have dabbled in painting and no way does a palette look like that as you paint.

So perhaps the question should be who are we going to paint? LOL!!!
Mon, 05/25/2009 - 6:42 PM Permalink
Eags

LOL, Terry.

Or...

Perhaps we were painting with a different pallette, that was used, and therefore the colors on this pallette should NOT be in the painting?

At this point, though, I have no clue whom we were painting!
Mon, 05/25/2009 - 7:01 PM Permalink
Terry

And why would one have the same color in two different places on a palette? Doesn't make snese to me.

I was thinking that dot easy website must be thinking they are getting a whole bunch of legitimate hits. :pbpt:

Allison Wonderland

It's true that colors may look different from one monitor to another. The key of course to knowing if they are really different is to measure them.
Mon, 05/25/2009 - 8:58 PM Permalink
Eags

Do we need to measure them - is that important to solving this puzzle?

Or would that be technically unimportant?

Would each of us see the colors in the image of whatever we are trying to match (or whatever we are trying to not match, if the unused palette is a valid point) the same as we see the colors on the palette, making the difference of no concern?

Think of the blind men and the elephant. Each of the blind men detects something different. One feels the leg and detects a tree. Another feels the side and detects a wall. Another feels the trunk and detects a snake. Despite the fact that all their perceptions are different, there remains but a single truth at the core of it all, which is that the thing is an elephant.

Likewise this puzzle can't be based on how each color appears to someone because those appearances will vary due to different monitors, different color settings, and frankly different people's ability to perceive color in the first place. So don't think like a person on this one. Think like a computer where everything is unambiguously defined.

I cheated a bit, I peeked at the geocaching thread expecting a hint for #9 but instead got the answer. I still can't figure how to arrive at said answer. I got #10 in about 15 minutes, but I'm not considering myself done until I figure out how to get #9. Oh, 1000th post Joe!
