I have a question about $

Technically, I think, Colemans term ended Jan 20?

if that is true, who got paid from Jan 21 to today, Jun 30?

Does the $ stay with the state and get put into the surplus? or does Coleman get paid this whole time? and did Coleman do any work from Jan 20 to current to justify the paycheck OR does Franken get backpay? for doing nada!?

how much $ are we talking about?

HEH - wondering do they pay state and fed tax on that? Do they pay insurance on that???

if not, $58/hour free and clear of taxes and insurance is a pretty sweet deal.

They pay state, federal, and (I think) D.C. income taxes.

Coleman hasn't been paid any senatorial benefits since January, I think.

Members of Congress pay 6.2% of their salary to Social Security Taxes and contribute 1.3% toward their retirement plan.
Thu, 07/02/2009 - 10:02 AM Permalink
ares

actually it works out to about 3.8% since their salary is 174k and that 6.2% is only collected on the first 106,800.

wouldn't that be a nice problem to have? maxing out fica halfway through the year and effectively getting a 6.2% pay raise for the rest of it?

State to mom: Stop baby-sitting neighbors' kids

IRVING TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Each day before the school bus comes to pick up the neighborhood's children, Lisa Snyder did a favor for three of her fellow moms, welcoming their children into her home for about an hour before they left for school.

Regulators who oversee child care, however, don't see it as charity. Days after the start of the new school year, Snyder received a letter from the Michigan Department of Human Services warning her that if she continued, she'd be violating a law aimed at the operators of unlicensed day care centers..........

LA to require all new homes to be graffiti-proofed...

The city of LA has a plan that asks homeowners to pitch in or pay -- whether they want to or not.

All new buildings in Los Angeles -- including homes -- must have anti-graffiti coating under an ordinance approved unanimously by the City Council on Tuesday. Homes in the tagThere is an exception if the owners promise to remove any graffiti on their property soon after it appears.

The ordinance will take effect 30 days after being signed by the mayor....

Councilman Ed Reyes, chair of the council's Planning and Land Use Management Committee, told the council "we wanted to create more flexibility for property owners in dealing with their commitment to keep our city looking cleaner.".....

Michelle Bachman named CNN 'Wingnut of the Year'

- *Sigh* Named for sheer gross tonnage of nutty statements.

I normally don't talk about who to vote for and let others decide for themselves...

For the record - I did NOT vote for her and never will.

Please someone get this woman out of the spotlight - even Pawlenty is not as damaging to the State as she is.

that would be the only benefit of losing a congressional seat. i figure that most likely, the "rural" districts, 1, 2, 7, and 8 would grow in size, while the core metro districts, 3, 4, 5, and 6 would be consolidated into 3 districts, although 2 and 6 are borderline rural. if district 6 goes away......

unfortunately, we couldn't be that lucky.

Ok so she bashes the "media" cuz they actually questioned her qualifications, knowledge, and stances on issues and then she becomes one of them.... oh wait FNC probably doesn't fall in the "media" category since they kissed her perky ass the whole time.

Jesse Ventura did the same thing. Bash the media... oh wait your offering me a job?

The foot-in-mouth disease hasn't set Michelle Bachman back any. Each time she says something stupid or inflamatory Fox can't wait to invite her back because she creates publicity. I can't figure out how she got re-elected. If she lost the next election I bet Fox would offer her a gig too. Fox tends to like "foxy" women with conservative views.

These people (O'reilly, Hannity, Limbaugh, Beck, etc) don't get it that the reason they get shows and good ratings are not because the things they say are so poignant or intelligent or even correct- it's because they say shocking bombastic things that get ATTENTION which equals ratings which makes the network MONEY. They are no different than what Howard Stern does. People who hate Howard Stern listen to his show more than his fans.

which is why i'm shocked that cnn announced that they're not having kathy griffin on new year's eve next year with ac. after last year, we watched again just because we knew she'd say something off color and wanted to see it happen. knowing the scene they were referring to, i didn't get the effenheimer out of it, but hey.

thank god all they can do is bloviate about them. not actually do anything
Tue, 01/12/2010 - 1:36 PM Permalink
mrmnmikey

yea, sure, that makes sense. Everyone watches them and listens but no one really supports what they say. Their rating are so high because everyone hates them.

What a croc.
Wed, 01/13/2010 - 11:37 AM Permalink
ares

I wouldn't say that its fair to say that no one really supports what they say. I would say, however, that just like with kathy griffin on cnn on new year's there's larger than zero portion of the audiences of these far-right and far-left wing shows (tates mentioned everything on fox, there's also the ones on msnbc like rachel maddow on the other end of the spectrum) who don't agree with the positions who turn in just so see what idocy they'll spew next.
Wed, 01/13/2010 - 12:40 PM Permalink
Mad_Dach5und

Case in point - watching "All In The Family" was a ratings bonanza in the 70's simply cuz people wanted to know what Archie Bunker would say next. Problem was, that show was FICTION and didn't pretend to be otherwise. There's plenty of modern-day 'Archies' spewing all kinds of crap without any mention of truthfulness - they're just on News 'Commentary' shows now instead of fictional dramas.

The bigger mystery is how the hell Woodbury, Hastings and Red Wing ended up in her district - PLEASE fill out your census forms so these district boundaries can be re-drawn in a way you can actually read them on a map.

Hastings and Red Wing aren't in her district - it ends at Woodbury. But the fact that Woodbury and St. Cloud are in the same district is ridiculous. It look like Minnesota will probably lose a congressional district in the next census, which would most likely result in her district being dissolved.
