Just a little story with some things to ponder on...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
John Doe started the day early today.
Having set his alarm clock (Made in Japan) for 6 a.m.
While his coffee-pot (Made in China), was perking, he went to the bathroom, and as always, made sure to flush his toilet (Made in Germany). John then quickly washed his hands, then turned off the faucet (Made in Mexico). He then opened his cabinet and got his razor (Made in Hong Kong), and quickly shaved. Feeling like today would be a good day John decided to wear his favorite cologne (Made in France).
John then went off to his bedroom, while waiting for his coffee to finish brewing. Opening his dresser (Made in Italy) drawers. He put on a nice dress shirt (Made in Sri Lanka), a classy pair of designer slacks (Made in Singapore) and his best dress shoes (Made in Korea).
After cooking his breakfast in his new electric skillet (Made in India), he sat down at his table (Made in China) and grabbed his nice leather covered checkbook (Made in Hong Kong) and then his trusty calculator (Made in Mexico) to see how much money he could spend today. After looking at his watch (Made in Taiwan), he turned off his radio (Made in China), got in his car (Made in Japan), and went off on his continued search for a good paying AMERICAN job.
10 hours later...
At the end of yet another discouraging and fruitless day of job hunting, John decided to relax for a while on his couch (Made in Mexico). He put on his sweatpants (Made in Brazil), poured himself a small glass (Made in France) of Jagermeister (Made in Germany), and turned on his TV (Made in Indonesia).
A few minutes later his cell phone (Made in Korea) rang. It was Johns good friend Joe. They talked for a while about the usual banter, and Joe bragged about his new computer (Made in Hong Kong) for a bit then hung up. John was bored now, so he got out his nice new game console (Made in Japan), and loaded up his favorite zombie killing game (Made in Australia), and started blasting away.
After passing a few more levels, John grew tired and turned the game off. John loaded up his bag (Made in Indonesia) with his things for tommorows same old trip down job application lane. Frustrated at having yet another day of job searching go awry, John decided to go and sleep it off again.
Laying there in his nice comfy bed (Made in England), John pulled his pillow (Made in China) under his head, and drifted off to sleep. Thinking deeply, as he normally does as he is trying to sleep, John wondered to himself many things.
Yes! We have been duped, and have been duping ourselves for far too long!
We need to send clear, strong messages by voting with our decimated dollars, that we want to keep our jobs and our dollars local (or at least national) to a much larger degree than we've been doing. It won't happen overnight, but John Doe can choose - today and every day - which percent of his dollars he wants to spend at home.
We (as a nation) have to stop f---ing ourselves over. And if anyone thinks this is limited to durable goods, do some research on what we've done to our own diet and health in the past 50 years.
John Doe - in the day described above - also ate corn, corn and more corn. It doesn't matter if he thought he was eating beef, chicken, eggs, sugar - he was probably eating mostly corn, something his body is not evolved to deal with very well. If John Doe reads supermarket labels, he will probably be amazed to find corn fractions as one of the main ingredients in nearly everything he eats, including ice cream.
And, if John Doe does the research, he will realize that the animals he eats were fed things they can't digest (corn and other grains), producing food products he can't digest either. These foods, when analyzed, are made up of building blocks of grains, but the animals we eat, and we ourselves, run best on building blocks of grass. When John Doe comes to realize how all that plays out in his body, he will realize that we lit the fuse on a very different kind of bomb than the ones we were taught to fear in our duck-and-cover drills.
So, John Doe probably also pays his doctors to put stents in his heart, and he probably pays his pharmacist to give him lipids and insulin and gout medicine. All of these diseases have increased dramatically since the diet which is now affordable under our dietary guidelines was guessed at 50+ years ago. Over the years, industry regulations favored feeding animals what is cheap, and produce was altered to withstand shipping and dropping and days of delay from farm to table, to the point where real food has all but disappeared from our landscape. The one consoling fact in this paragraph is that some of the drugs and medical devices John Doe now needs were made in this country, although increasingly even these firms are looking for cheaper labor, and are moving their operations outside our borders.
In many ways, this great nation had nowhere to go but down when it got sucked into the global economy.
preferably free, but I could scrounge $10 together if ....anyone has a controller for the WII that you don't need/want/extra or is just sitting around that you would part with. - if no one does than I heard Game Stop has used ones cheap- but I thought I would ask just in case. thanks -
Most importantly on his mind...
"Why can't I find a good paying job in AMERICA ?"
ARE WE MISSING SOMETHING HERE ?!!?!??!
I would like to help out- am checking my calendar
we won't even recognize him when he gets back -
sounds like he is living!!!! ...... for jess ...
He said I was in my early forties
with a lot of life before me
when a moment came that stopped me on a dime
and I spent most of the next days
looking at the x-rays
Talking bout the options
and talking bout sweet time
I asked him when it sank in
that this might really be the real end
how's it hit you when you get that kinda news
man what'd you do
and he said
I went sky diving
I went Rocky Mountain climbing
I went 2.7 seconds on a bull named FuManchu
and I loved deeper and I spoke sweeter
and I gave forgiveness I'd been denying
and he said someday I hope you get the chance
to live like you were dying.
He said I was finally the husband
that most the time I wasn't
and I became a friend a friend would like to have
and all the sudden going fishin
wasn't such an imposition
and I went three times that year I lost my dad
well I finally read the good book
and I took a good long hard look
at what I'd do if I could do it all again
and then
I went sky diving
I went Rocky Mountain climbing
I went 2.7 seconds on a bull named FuManchu
and I loved deeper and I spoke sweeter
and I gave forgiveness I'd been denying
and he said someday I hope you get the chance
to live like you were dying.
Like tomorrow was a gift and you got eternity to think about
what'd you do with it what did you do with it
what did I do with it
what would I do with it'
Sky diving
I went Rocky Mountain climbing
I went 2.7 seconds on a bull named FuManchu
and then I loved deeper and I spoke sweeter
and I watched an eagle as it was flying
and he said someday I hope you get the chance
to live like you were dying
To live like you were dying
To live like you were dying
To live like you were dying
To live like you were dying
