Shoot the Breeze With the Cooler Crew - Ableminds Edition

You will see very few Aussies in the lost/found dog posts and ads. I'm not sure what the statistics would say about the number of Aussies vs. how many get lost.

This one didn't run initially - I recall this dog may have even been stolen initially.

And the other one I posted slipped his collar when a stranger was walking him (who wasn't supposed to even have him out of his kennel).

The reason I've posted about two missing Aussies is that I have a special fondness for Aussies. My Frodo was part Aussie.

And they are easier for people to spot. These dogs have distinctive looks, and people would have no trouble identifying this dog if they saw it in the park or wherever.

The family of this dog is heartbroken. And the dog is probably wishing it could get back home!

Couldn't hurt to have the info, in case this dog is spotted during the hunt.

Ever been walking through a store, absolutely clueless what to get someone for Christmas, and you stop quick, back up and see the perfect thing for that someone?

My brother did that at Cabela's. I borrowed his old paintball gun about 6 months ago to shoot pesky squirrels off the bird feeders. The gun has developed a gas leak and cannot hold any pressure so it's worthless. Not that it really worked well, anyway - only actually hit about three squirrels out of 600 shots or so.

Well, he doesn't get me a new paintball gun - he gets something a lot more interesting - and probably a lot harder to hit squirrels with - a BLOW gun! One of those skinny tubes you put a dart in one end and exhale and it rockets out the other side. It's slower than a paintball pellet, but not by much. Probably a lot harder to aim. Anyone ever attempted to use on of these things before?

Supposedly they make smaller paintballs as well for the tubes - muzzle velocity is supposed to be 200 feet per second on a 3 ft tube - faster if you own a longer tube.

I have one.. lost some of the darts for it. Plus mine only has one ring to hold darts on.

I was really amazed at how accurate those blow guns are though.

same thing with Whitney - due on OPEN HOUSE weekend at the greenhouse.

At the time, one of the biggest greenhouse days of the year.

I was induced because of it - she was born 2 days before.

hey, the backdoor link to ableminds - what is it again?

I wish it was easy to find - maybe posted at the top of one of these pages for everyone-kind of like the football picks in sports.

I want to send it off to David Allison.

Never owned one of these but I did used to shoot the toothpicks with the plastic fuzzy tails that held hamburgers together into the cork ceiling at Bob's Big Boy resturant, that was a long time ago... Fun to remember that from this picture...

A New Year is a special time,

And I pray yours will be blessed.

May each new day bring happiness,

And everything's that's best.

I wish for you God's gifts of love,

Joy and hope each day.

That you will feel His presence,

Every step of the way.

A new beginning filled with love,

Is also wished today.

Because you are a special friend,

In every kind of way.

I look forward to the days ahead,

Spending time with friends too.

It doesn't matter whether old or new,

What matters is friends like you.

I feel the same way. It will be very cathartic to have some fun and try to lift peoples' spirits at the PDG.

do you guys think it would be too late to switch PDG to Yarusso's in lieu of Obbs ?
Thu, 01/07/2010 - 8:33 AM Permalink
CerealKiller

I dont think we should do that!!

But I think the Irish wake should be at Yarusso's! anyone want to make a stop in for a few min after for a beer or 10!!

That's been considered. Alas they don't have the space to handle something like the PDG.

Mad_Dach5und

Yarusso's would need to open up the patio as well for the PDG - some of us probably wouldn't mind, but the waitresses would have problems with clearing tables if the silverware is frozen to the patio furniture.

Yarussos may be an option size wise if we could get the whole place. And they're vey very generous. I retract my statement about the size. Plus there's actuala restaurant food and not bar food.

Clue Master

That would make the CC looked at as a very fickle crew if it was changed at this late hour since Jimmy from Obbs already got the license to stay open late for us and he only gets to use that option once a year.

I agree that Yarusso's been good to us and I plan on visiting them during the hunt. How about re-hash? Although many like the pot luck feel to RHB in the past.

It's too late to make the switch this year and Obb's has been good to us as well. I am sure Obb's has scheduled people to work next Saturday evening to accommodate our group and got the permit to stay open.

I would like to propose that we have our pity party at Yarusso's this year in addition to being one of the gathering spots prior to the paper routine each night.

Then moving forward, we should talk to them regarding the use of their establishment for the PDG next year. I agree that Yarusso's is larger and would be more comfortable than Obb's basement, but we need to remember they took us on last year at the last minute and have tried to make us feel welcome. Much more so than McGovern's ever did.

The Cooler Crew has been at Obbs for at least two years (maybe three?) as I've been to one there and didn't go last year.

Obb's was the pity party place after the Mounds Park hunt in 2008. We were not there for a PDG that year - only the pity party.

Last year we were still going to be at Matty B's until they closed down about a week prior to the PDG and Obb's not only accommodated us in 2009, but had banners made.

2010 will be the second time for the PDG at Obbs.

Huh. Wonder what I'm thinking? Was there for a party downstairs. Then there was the one upstairs at the east end - that was the Pity Party, correct?

So what am I thinking of? Didn't Obb's offer to do the banner last year based on the previous year's Pre-Dig Gig?

I have also been to Obb's with a group after hunting, but that was upstairs as well.

Mad_Dach5und

Obbs should be adequate for the PDG - I'm just going to repeat this idea -

A few less tables downstairs makes for a LOT more room - and we probably wouldn't miss them. Keep the chairs.

Yarusso's has lots of weekly specials and 'theme' nights - I joined their Facebook page and get their messages often. Sweet deals! I don't think I could sacrifice my health and/or pocketbook to eat there EVERY night, but if I could...

Tonight my friend, Scarlet, who lives near Seattle, decided to go to a cash machine on her way home from a late evening of work, on her way to pick up a pizza.

As soon as she got her transaction going, a car pulled up and a man got out. Fortunately, she was able to grab her money and get in her car before he could get near her, but he was trying to engage her in inane conversation, asking her questions about what model was her car, how many miles did she have on it, etc.

She had not seen anyone around at all when she got to the cash machine, so obviously this guy was hiding in his car, just out of her sight, but was waiting for just this opportunity.

So...be careful out there! She has now been given orders to NOT DO THAT AGAIN.

Same thing could happen if a person drives up to a cash machine. Would only take a crook a few seconds to walk between the car and the cash machine and grab your cash.

I hate that there are f@#&ers like this in the world. Just be careful out there, OK?
