The Pioneer Press medallion has been found. Details are at our Winter Carnival page.
The hunt's over, but the discussion rages on ...

The clues have honed it down to a one-block radius. Thorn, Suburban, Urban....well, close to one. Help me out on the "almost immeasurable." That scares me. It might be hard to pinpoint....lots of digging. Hmm.
There better be a playground in that area then or you guys are lost. Try the playground at the west end of Delos road. Nearby are Water and Wood streets. A playground is a place to play and where kids zoom. Prospect is the park to go to!
Just got the clue!!!!!!!!!! We'd be the first to say that a "place to play can make any winter more pleasurable". Could he be talking about an indoor skating rink?
(can make any winter more pleasureable) H-m-m-m-m-m, This is only something to think about (highland) Don't move from mounds yet!
How about Thron and Earl as being the riches immeasurable? The Dukes riches are immeasurable. What about a city street (Lexington) taking you to the suburb---Cental Park. Hurry up and get us somewhere I want to start digging!!
after talking with the sleuths at work we figure "rosebud" refers to
Citzen Kane which Orsen Wells wrote. It's about a newspaper man, and was a take off of William Randolf Hearst--a newspaper publisher. Anyway the Pioneer Press Printing Bldg is in great view across the great Missisippi from Mounds Park--which is high ground. Kids go zoom
in the playground, the anagram "dome" fits, i.e., the capital...It's amazing that the Mounds at the Park are believed to be 1500-2000 years old and the Hopewell people buried their people there. The archelogist diggers were probably as exicited as the digger who finds
the hidden treasure--if its at the park....P.S. the large object that guides the way may be the beacon...duke
Hello, all!!! I hate to beat a dead horse, but could someone *please* tell me exactly *where* the Med was found when it was found in Battle Creek Park????? Which of the many sections, and what by?????
I'd much appreciate it. Inquiring minds what to know!! LOL!!!

Hello Diggers -- There were some good thinkers here last night: They gave me the City streets (Suburban, Urban, Thorn near Mounds). I foresee a huge trench stretching from the Tower in Mounds towards the capital dome. And maybe another stretching from the playground towards the 1st bank sign.
Hey Diggers! This is the last day (1/29) to send in your regisitration to be eligible for the extra grand if you find the Med. And no, I don't work for the Paper. Just hate to have someone find it and lose the extra cash like the guy did last year
I finally left Mound at 1:30 a.m. I didn't want it to be just me and the three drunk guys that looked like they had lost interest in digging and were more into sitting in the snow. I'm stuck on: "To riches that are almost immeasurable." Help me out. Could it just be he's being more specific as he refers to the Indian Mounds? I can't think of anything else...unless maybe there's no way to measure where the Medallion is because it's randomly in the middle of a piece of land with no markers. That seems unlikely though. Pay attention to the word "first." It's been used twice now in the clues. I think I've got a good idea on that, but I'm not sure. I'll check it out today.
Does anyone think that we've "cracked the code" referred to in Clue 4? Does it mean that the cracked code will give us the large object? I know, I know "demo" and "mode" = Dome and Dome (the Capital and The Cathedral). But why the singular on "A large object" and not Large Objects?
Say, Where do kids like to zoom? Maybe it's a place that can be seen (or watched, as the clue says)-- along with the Capital Dome -- from the "mother Lode". Is there a place downtown, on the river, a bike path maybe, that kids play, ride bikes, slide, etc...Anyone know of any place like that? PS -- Welcome back Joe!
What about the play on the words "Mother Lode" Has anyone thouht about a place where "ore" as in mineral which is what mother lode refers to in the dictionary. What do you think about a place that has been mined in previous years for minerals. What about Pigs Eye Park? Barges use to park in that area.
It's been bothering me, so I have to at least throw it out there.
What about the Capitol Mall and the Ice Skating rink that the built?? (kids go zoom?, The dome??, the capitol as a marker?). The streets don't make sense though.
From Prospect "lode" park, Cherokee Park "high ground" You can: "watch for a place where Kids like to zoom" at the Harriet Island. You can see "Water and Woood in the neighborhood" (Street names). You have to take "city streets" to get there. You can see the Capitol and Cathedral domes, The 1st bank sign is clearly visible ("the lucky one" "the first to say"). How does "Rosebud" fit? perhaps the thing the medallion is in/attached to? What do you think?
Sorry, MR. KNOW IT ALL the Hunt started in 1952. and its always been found. And its Prosperity Rec. Center near Prosperity Heights Elementary school, off Germain street.

There is a playround on the west end of suburban. How did you come up with those streets?

What happened to the Phalen idea. Mounds just doesn't seem right. This word game is getting to me!
How about Thron and Earl as being the riches immeasurable? The Dukes riches are immeasurable. What about a city street (Lexington) taking you to the suburb---Cental Park. Hurry up and get us somewhere I want to start digging!!
I think Central Park has been eliminated due to the fact that it is in Roseville.
The two city related streets by Mounds seem to be the only thing I can pull from this clue. Arghh.
Hello treasure hunters:
after talking with the sleuths at work we figure "rosebud" refers to

Clue five is filler!
Two interesting repetitions of words:
"pleasure(able)" and "first".
Alex M: went to Prospect, it could be there. No large object to guide however

Hey just checking in this morning. Only had the one thought from:
We'd be the first to say that a place to play
Can make any winter more pleasurable
People said Ice Skating is playing and pleasurable, but what is more pleasurable than a WARMING HOUSE after ice skating???
Dose this spark anyone????

hey CK1
Did you get anyting else (besides city streets) out of clue #5??
Hey Diggers! This is the last day (1/29) to send in your regisitration to be eligible for the extra grand if you find the Med. And no, I don't work for the Paper. Just hate to have someone find it and lose the extra cash like the guy did last year
The teasure has always been found. To get old clues go to the St. Paul library.
I finally left Mound at 1:30 a.m. I didn't want it to be just me and the three drunk guys that looked like they had lost interest in digging and were more into sitting in the snow. I hate to even go there! B-u-t Immeasurable riches, probably means PROSPERITY
Okay...So where is Prosperity...good thought!
Hey MR KNOW IT ALL, where are you going???
Prospect
Mounds
WHERE???
Does anyone think that we've "cracked the code" referred to in Clue 4? Does it mean that the cracked code will give us the large object? I know, I know "demo" and "mode" = Dome and Dome (the Capital and The Cathedral). But why the singular on "A large object" and not Large Objects?
I think Mr. Know It All your over analyzing.Prospect park is too small, I don't see the rosebud connection, or sliding.
Isn't there a Prosperity Park???? I think my brother used to play hockey there -- and I'm sure there's a warming house!!
I'd like to apologize to ALL for my bratty attitude the last 3 days. Thank you.
I don't think that there is a Prosperity Park, Shelly.
Thank you Joe, Now let's start digging with each other!!!
Does anybody think that the code involves 'city streets'?
Say, Where do kids like to zoom? Maybe it's a place that can be seen (or watched, as the clue says)-- along with the Capital Dome -- from the "mother Lode". Is there a place downtown, on the river, a bike path maybe, that kids play, ride bikes, slide, etc...Anyone know of any place like that? PS -- Welcome back Joe!
Thanks, just thought I would throw it out there!
Thanks for accepting, Snowball2.
Hey CK1, Harriet Island has biking & walking trails and a medium-sized playground!
To : J. There was a year that the medallion er um treasure Chest was not found! 1950 something the prize was given to charity!
I hate being stuck at work and watching this from afar. Has anyone thought of Clayland Park? It's near Newell?
I know that Mounds Blvd., Earl Street, Thorn Street, and Frank Ave. are all in or near Mounds Park, so does anybody see a connection?

What streets intercect at Clayland Park?
It's been bothering me, so I have to at least throw it out there.

Any thoughts??
Clayland Place and Clayland St intersect but I'm again being a fool! It's a tiny park with NO sledding, no woods, no water no rosebuds!
It's called (Officially) Prosperty Heights Park. It's between White Bear Ave. and Hazelwood on Maryland Ave......................................
From Prospect "lode" park, Cherokee Park "high ground" You can: "watch for a place where Kids like to zoom" at the Harriet Island. You can see "Water and Woood in the neighborhood" (Street names). Just found Prosperity Park. There's a road called "East Rose Street" just south of Prosperity Park. It's off of Maryland Ave. or Cty. 31.
CK1's on to something! I'm grabbing my shovel as soon as I leave the Water Cooler!
CK'1you have a point.
M.K.I.A>> Do you know how big it is??
Who is this 'Billy Joe' guy?
What exactly does M.K.I.A>> mean, Snowball2?
Sorry, MR. KNOW IT ALL the Hunt started in 1952. and its always been found. And its Prosperity Rec. Center near Prosperity Heights Elementary school, off Germain street.
