Would a flat fee and free food make more sense? $35 bucks a head and you get to roam and chow - Maybe mark someone's hand with a stamp once they've sampled their limit at a particular tent so they have to move on.

Entertainment prices are skyrocketing. ANY aspect of entertainment - from TV costs to sporting goods to ticket prices - are climbing like crazy. - Seems like Ticketmaster wants your first-born as collateral. Why? Why does it cost so freakin' much?

Simple. Because they can, and people will pay for it.

I stopped going to movies at the theater because the price has started to get outrageous. I just wait for it to come out on DVD and then catch it on netflix or redbox. I don't really need to see movies on a big screen anyway, and home theaters have come a long way in the last few years. Plus, I don't have to follow their schedules, I can start and stop a movie at home anytime I want.

Speaking of movies, I haven't attended a movie at a theater since the '80's, if not before. Movies have never been my thing so why spend the money or the time on them?

Last night I get a phone call and my caller ID says it's from Neilsen Media and I think, "Oh, the TV tracking company. So I answer because I want to tell them I'm watching the Twins, and that's pretty much all I watch during the summer so this will be easy!" So the woman on the phone starts out saying she's going to ask me questions about current movies. Right away I kind of laugh and tell her I'm not the person you want to ask and I haven't watched a movie in a theater since the '80's. Doesn't faze her a bit. She says, ok, I have to tell you this call may be recorded. So I tell her again I don't watch current movies. She seems dumbfounded by my answer and it's quiet for a few seconds and she starts again asking a question. I finally tell her I really need to go, no time for questions tonight. And she hangs up on me. lol That's kind of irritating, usually it's the recipient of those calls who hang up, isn't it? I feel cheated!

You could always just answer Joe Mauer for each question she asked.

I guess this could be in the Enjoys thread for part of it but it's irritating that J & I were chosen to be a part of the Diamond Dash which only allowed a limited number of entries based on your story. Found out today that they only allowed 250 teams out of over 1000 who tried to enter.

But also paying to be in the CitySolve hunt going on at the exact same time. Joel posted the Diamond Dash only hours after we already paid for the CitySolve hunt. Usually it wouldn't be that big of a deal as we could just have someone take our spots but they want our IDs at both hunts so they match our entry information. Damn! It should be fun either way. Will feel out both hunts and see which one works better for us.

I realize this is putting a new door on the barn after the horse has made clear into the next county and died of old age, but maybe it will help you in the future - especially if your vet will work with you.

You'll need to know a bit about working with animals, and you will need to know your animal well and what s/he can tolerate. And this info is NOT to replace vet info.

If the owie is an abcess from puncture by claw or tooth, use a rough terrycloth wash rag and after getting an area as scalding hot (on wash rag) has you can handle, gently hold on abcess with the lighest of pressure. Repeat, keeping the moisture hot as often as necessary, for about 10 mins. The wound will open and begin to ooze the pus. Let rest .5 tp 1 hour.

Begin again as above as you will have a scab. Once scab has softened and fallen off, continue but use firmer pressure and gently push down on the abcess, pushing out the pus. Keep using HOT water. Once the flow of pus has abated, keep with the hot water pack 15 to 30 mins. Gently blot dry and put some Neosporine on if you wish. Do not bandage, but don't let Fido skritch, either.

Repeat every couple hours until you have a hole surround by like hard flesh and all is clean and pus free. Depending, you may need to do hot packs, not as frequently, for a couple days.

I do NOT recommend the following, but have been doing my own pet care - vet guided - for almost 20 years. Also, Dickens ("The Dog") is one laid back cat and never once made a peep... But I packed the abcess with salt once the pus was almost gone and used the hot, wet heat. Didn't faze him a bit, but I don't know if I would do the same on other cats I have.

Today, Dickens has two perfect ears and the one is not crumped and mutiliated from an abcess. I know a couple that show British Shorthairs and they have a crumpley-eared cat as wwre not able to do the above. The Dog has no scarring, but does have a bald spot.

Please note: I do NOT suggest doing this on soft tissue such as a leg, belly, etc. Ittiz much harder to see the extent/size of an abcess in soft tissue and the pus can actually be squeezed into non-infected tissue. I would, personally, never do the above on soft tissue as you run a greater risk of making things worse, not better.

Know your pet, your vet, your capabilities, and what you're doing before trying this.

Not to beat a dead horse, but you need to know if ittiz a puncture wound, or a puncture wound from like glass or barbed wire where there is a possibility there is a forign (sp!) is imbedded, DO NOT attempt the above as you could drive the object in further. Those type of abcesses need professional, surgical help.

And, last but not least. diligence is sorely (:smile:) needed if you choose to handle an abcess on your own. You must continue with the hot water packs until every single tiny bit of pus is out, swelling has gone down, heat/infection has abated. If this is not possible, go with your vet.

It is the law now that you must stop for pedestrians waiting to cross, whether or not the crosswalk is marked. It does get a little hairy though if one stops and others don't know the law and run right through.

As I said there was NO crosswalk there. An undesignated crosswalk is is one that is white lines only, without signage.

This butt-head basically came to a dead halt in the middle of the street. And the people were on the sidewalk, and had not even put a toe off the curb.

That's why we have crosswalks, signed or not signed, for the protection of the peds and to give drivers a heads-up people may be crossing.

Idiots that come to a dead halt in the middle of the street when they have not been directed to by signage and/or pavement markings deserve everything they get and should have their licenses pulled for bad driving and endangerment.
