I haven't told many people because we have been very scared and have not been sure what we are dealing with but my son Carter had neck surgery on the 30th at Children s hospital and is now doing fine.
We discovered a unknown neck mass that was bulging from his right side about 5 weeks ago and the initial thought from the pediatrician is that it was a swollen lymph node, after 2.5 weeks when it did not subside, it actually got larger and more red, we brought him to a ENT surgeon/specialist and they informed us he needed a CT scan. After the scan we were told that the mass we saw at the surface was only the "tip of the iceberg" and that most of his lymph system in his neck was inflamed/infected and would most likely require major neck surgery.
They said it didn't look like cancer but couldn't rule it out and they thought it was a rare bacterial infection called atypical mycobacterium infection which is an environmental bacteria that lives everywhere and unfortunately is a fluke type infection.
Surgery took place and it is not cancer, they confirmed initially that it is the bacterial infection and the surgeon believes he got it all. Please keep Carter in your prayers as he is now recovering and his very uncomfortable, he is only a baby and sometimes life is not fair.
Steph and I have been emotional wrecks lately and are now happy to be home as a family again.
I'm so happy to see it's not cancer! We will keep him in our prayers and hoping for a quick recovery. Babies tend to heal quicker so hopefully his discomfort will be short lived.
I spoke with Sue and we appreciate the kind offer of help. If things continue well, we should be OK. Carter is a little trooper and we have family coming in to help out. See you at the PDG.
BM I can't imagine how scared you and Steph have been! I'm very happy to hear it was not cancer and hope he continues to recover with out any more issues. Hugs to the little man hope he feels better soon.
we sometimes walk to the skyway subway now that its cold out. Usually we walked to the wabasha one across the bridge in the summer, We could to the 4th St one too. the good news is that he won't likely remember the trauma when he gets older. might wonder where the battle scars came from but he won't remember the big deal.
I'll make my obligatory "FYI" post. People are fired up about this. The question is why are they fired up about this? To quote the most recent post on the PP boards:
"I am also troubled by the Cooler Crew sponsoring an official winter carnival event. I don't think they should be allowed to hunt for the medallion in that case. It seems like a major conflict of interest"
No purchase is necessary to win. Photo copies or online printouts from TwinCities.com of the published clues will be accepted. All contest rules and decisions are final. Employees and immediate family members of Pioneer Press, TwinCities.com, the St. Paul Festival and Heritage Foundation and all contest partners are not eligible.
I haven't been over to those boards in quite a while. I didn't know Rob was such a douchebag, geez. And to think, I thought he was my friend. Who knew he was a criminal mastermind.
logic went out the door over there a long time ago. not that i spend a whole lot of time defending you jake, but it started about the time the conspiracy theories did after your first find.
I wish someone could clean this one up!
You are no longer a student or an amatuer, it's no longer a hobby or just piddlin' around. You are now a true professional artist!
Good job! Congratulations!

So glad all is relatively OK at this point. I hate the C word whenever it's used even in good context. Hugs to you and the family
I am going to chill tonight and hope nothing gets planned for next weekend. I need some down time.

Unfounded or not, be prepared for some backlash.
What constitutes a contest partner?
