I clicked on it. I have "no access to view this discussion". Each folder I went into said the same thing - no access. I guess that is why I can't see it.
I know a lot of us got the answer, but many do not know *how* they got the answer, including me. If anyone can shed some light on the connection between what we saw on the page and the actual answer, please PM me. Thanks.
Do we have to wait until much later to find out how to get the answer for #9? Or might you provide that information to those of us that have answered all 10 puzzles by email perhaps?
I would love to know how to solve that beastly #9.
One benefit of having done this online is now I have a much better idea of how long it takes to solve some puzzles, even though I know people weren't necessarily working on them full time. Grading the difficulty was always the hard part before. Now I think I have a much better idea of what puzzles can be solved in a day and which ones can't.
I hear some people want to change the date of the hunt. I would guess that even if this publicity campaign works, this particular group of people will still represent the largest contingent of participants. Consequently I'm willing to be flexible, though I myself am busy on September 26th. Otherwise nothing is written in stone and even if it were, that's not a problem for Masons.
I'm open in September. If we're changing the date, I would prefer to make it earlier rather than later because it would be nice to have the hunt while it's still warm out.
Ah yes, I kept meaning to go over there and address that, but I got wrapped up in planning the "end of my singles club" party this last weekend. We had nearly 200 people attend!
If only the treasure hunt had that same sort of enthusiasm. At this point only the Spider Monkeys have qualified for the hunt. One other person finished the preliminary round and emailed me, but just to let me know they finished, not because they would be participating.
And as I last recall, several people in the Cooler ended up having conflicts with the date and we were thinking of rescheduling anyway.
In the meantime, my Mason Lodge did indeed sell our building and consequently we are no longer in need of fundraisers, at least not for our own benefit.
So adding it all together, it comes out to say that what I thought was a brilliant idea really wasn't. Consequently I think we will need to move to plan C and redesign the event again to work best for its core audience, the treasure hunters. Since we know the treasure hunters are in it for the thrill more than the prize, maybe we won't even charge money to participate this time and have just a nominal prize. A Halloween themed hunt could be fun though October seems to be such a busy month. Maybe an event during the blah days of November would help get through that month. But the bottom line is this will now be a Cooler Crew event instead of a Masonic one.
1st week in November is Bambi Hunting season - that's when I field test my warm-weather gear for January. The coyotes are busy in and around where my parents live, so we're not planning on getting much venison at all this year.
I did complete all the puzzles (and I *think* I e-mailed AW) but my participation is pending my getting moved back there, or knowing the date and then seeing if I can time a visit to MN then.
I have to apologize that this all ended up falling apart. The post BFG quoted above explains a lot of it. After September work got really busy and some other stuff was going on, mostly a sense of burnout I suppose. After programming all day I wasn't up to being on my computer at night and wasn't feeling very creative either. There wasn't a specific need for a hunt either at the time so not much happened. Unfortunately work is still busy. I'm not even going to be able to take any time off for the hunt this year.
For future plans, my Mason lodge still doesn't really need to do much fundraising. However I think I would still like to organize some fundraising activities during the year just for general charities as any money we raise can get matched by the Grand Lodge. I'd still like to do another hunt like this but as I said before, we may not get many people beyond the Cooler so it may make more sense to do this just for the fun of it instead of for money.
So as it turned out, yesterday was an exceedingly slow day at work. Consequently, while doing my best to look busy by randomly shuffling which screen I stared blankly at, my mind was free to ponder other things and in the process I came up with the entire puzzle structure for another hunt. I think I'm going to get away from the 24 hour concept and aim more for a 12 hour or so, single day event. I have some new groups to advertise to and I'm going to lower the cost to $25 a team instead of $100. Teams are still limited to a max of 5, but maybe that way we'll have some smaller teams too.
The main question is when to do it? I'm leaning towards shortly after the end of the treasure hunt, like maybe February 12th. But since this is the group most vested in it, I wanted your opinion. Will people still have treasure hunt fever at that point or will they be burned out? Past experience with mock hunts tells me it's actually the former. Alternately we could aim to do it before the hunt, or else it would have to be in late April or later. I won't have time in March.
I would most certainly try to participate but the 12th of Feb is Carters 1st birthday so I would personally be out for that date. But please don't base a whole group decision on me. I like April as it would be a great reason to get outside and enjoy the spring weather.
I like April as well if it's park related but earlier if it's designed like the past 24 hour hunts around town. I always have the fever so that's never an issue.
Feb 12th is hard for some cause those who celebrate Valentines day on the weekend may not be able to play (at least this kind of treasure hunt  )
Since you have your regular hunt about week 3 of Feb.... waiting til April is probably good for a 12 hour.... Like Rob, I can't ask you to not choose a specific date based on our kids, but I won't be able to participate the Sat closest to April 23rd. ALSO when is Easter? I think I speak for most to ask it not be that weekend.
It's the second latest day it can possibly be. I actually had a big event planned for that weekend thinking it couldn't possibly be Easter just to find out later that it was and I had to reschedule.
I believe that was Highwood Hills. It was found by TMK in I think a record 7 clues. That was a hunt where the first person to the right park was likely to find it and that's what happened.
My singles convention was yesterday. Now that that is done with, onto the next thing which is the 24 hour hunt. Looking at the calendar, it seems May 21st will be the day for it. With gas prices going way up again, I think I may limit this one to the downtown Minneapolis area so that driving won't be quite as much of a factor. I have many more places to advertise it this time around, and since there's no pretense of being a fundraiser, I'll be charging just $25 per team with $5 towards materials and $20 towards the prize. More details to come.
Also as far as the area being downtown Minneapolis, you could do what the "Great MN Race" that Tim and I were in did and limited transportation to walking and public transportation. That would allow you to use a bigger area. It's obviously up to you, just thought I'd throw it out there.
THIS IS THE LINK TO THE FINAL ANSWER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YOU HAVE BEEN TOLD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
damn access lists
or somebody else tweeked it

At the moment I do not have any conflicts with any of the Saturdays in September or October.
