My bro lives in SSP. I am in IGH. We would love to find a nice little home cookin' cafe with really good coffee. Breakfast is the plan, well, late breakfast. My bro mentioned Capitol View Cafe on Smith. I guess we'd like to stay in SSP, IGH, MH, WSP, West Side just to minimize drive time.
O.K. I renewed Ableminds again - but since Facebook has really taken over a lot of our usual non-hunt postings during the past year, I kind of wonder how much longer this will last?
all in all a good point. i for one will probably be the one turning out the lights here if and when that day ever comes. i've been thinking about running the archiver here to. what top-level folders from member folders are people interested in having archived on coolercrew.com apart from this one?
Sad to think of it. I am pretty guarded about what I post on Facebook. I think we need to think about what will happen when Facebook runs it's course. This kind of forum has served us well for many, many years.
Then you want to go to T & T Galley. Just a hole in the wall, but everything made to order and a favorite of the locals. Your brother probably know of it.
The Black Sheep Coffee Shop in SSP has great pastries and quiche, along with your standard coffee shop blends. Best part is, they'll let you sit there all day if you like, I think I'd pick this place.
I forgot about that place. They've had many incarnations over the years. Began as the C & H in the late '60's. We called it the Choak & Heave. Have you been to their fish fry during Lent, CM? Better than the Vet's, and you don't have to wait in line for an hour.
A big welcome to the Yarusso bunch. I'm sure that me2(Jana) and I (Brad) will be stopping by for lunch today. We went to Joesphs yesterday and hit our heads when we were talking about the hunt. Been craving you guys ever since.
Glad you've jumped aboard. See ya soon Annette, Freddy and company.
I've always seen the signs but never remembered to go there during one of their fish frys. I have heard that they are really good. And if you go and the train isn't moving, go ahead and ask, they always accommodate me when I do. It adds to the atmosphere seeing that little dude circling overhead.
No. I have before but not there. Fun thing to do with the kid. Although it might remind her of when Pink puts the bullet on the tracks in The Wall movie. Yikes.
I'm not sold on fb anyway. This is more my speed as it's much more intimate. I wanted to keep the friends list down out there but it ended up getting too big. Not a fan of everyone knowing everything I post. The things I post in here are meant for people in here. Each group doesn't have it's own board like we do here and I don't feel like having anymore classmates, legacy or disc golf forums. I'll stick with this place. It's served me well for many years. I may still yank the fb thing altogether.
From the old PP board under the header what is your dream find... This is pretty funny
My ideal find would start with my morning cup of coffee, and re-reading the clues. Bingo they all make sense for once and give me the park and the approximate location. I get my gear on, warm up the car, and get my dog. Off we go.
We get to the park, and Jake and Rob are there digging. Now I know I got it right!!
I open the car door, and tell Fido "go seek it". He bounds out of the car, sniffs around a bit, starts to whine. I tell him to "GET IT".
He gets about 10 feet from Jake and starts to dig. Suddenly he runs back to the car with something in his mouth. Bounds in and drops the medallion in my lap. I scream " I FOUND IT" and wave it out the car window so everyone knows it has been found. Then after stopping at MickeyD's for a reward for Fido, I go to the PP and claim the $10,000.00.
Mine would be a nice morning drive up to the park with Bella she runs to the slide and finds it runs to me and we go to the pp and collect the cash
- The pennies on the tracks comment reminded me of something really cool this weekend. The railroad to Mankato goes within a few blocks of my parents' place - coming home from Church Sat eve there was a maintenance crew doing 'grinding' on the tracks to remove rust and weathering. It's a real industrial process, with sparks and flames and chunks of molten metal flying everywhere - they were doing it at night which made it even cooler.
Problem is, by the time we got home and got the cameras out, they were done for the evening and watching football in the caboose. Epic fail!
I would have walked up close and just enjoyed the smell. Nothing smells better than hot steel. I love the smell of a smithy shop, but they're pretty rare now. There's one in Washburn WI that I stick my head into when I'm up there.
agreed. i think most of us are in that same boat. our kids however, yikes. don't yet realize that what they post out there will haunt them forever. i've got 265 friends on fb as of this morning. i know personally every single one of them, either form high school, college, here, work, somewhere. but i know them all. i lok at some of these kids who have 8 or 900 friends and think really? you really know that many people? yeah right.
as for a forum, 1) at some point when i get some time, i plan on archiving everything here, just like i did at pf.
2) sometime after that, i want to create a forum module to simulate this forum within the coolercrew site, just because i see a lot of people questioning 10 bucks a year (which to me is damn cheap for the privacy we get, but hey i get it) for what they ultimately use for maybe a month. i'm thinking about setting up a thread post-hunt to create a wish list for such a board.
the biggest issue i see with it is how to handle lurkers. the cooler crew site is wide open and anyone can create an account, same as here. however, around here, we have the "paid member" level. with the exception of the welcome home treasure hunters folder, you have to be a paid member to get in to our threads. the last thing i want to deal with on the cooler crew site is a paid membership level (unless of course the volume of traffic is unbearably large during the hunt that i have to pay for a hosted site somewhere for two weeks; that should never be the case as i should always be able to shape traffic to avoid that situation, but you never know), so i'm thinking about some sort of member level system based on the volume, and potential quality of posts a user has made in order to cross that threshold. i don't think i'd want to keep quality as a determining factor unless someone posts 100 "joe" posts to get across that threshold, at which point we moderators can roll them back.
heck, i may go about setting up the skeleton of a board before i archive this one so that i know what i want to bring in.
I value the privacy here. $10, even if only used during the hunt, is so cheap. How many people are actually complaining? And I'll bet if they cut out about three beers (just an example - there are lots of ways to save up $10) in the course of one year they would have it paid for. How many of us are in for the long haul? If enough, could we stay here, please?
I'll start a list of who plans to stay here long-term. Please copy/paste the list in your reply and add to it. Thank you!
My Bro and I went to Susie's Last Track Cafe this morning. The train was running. The food was very good. My Bro wasn't crazy about the coffee and he really didn't like the fork totally caked with dried-on egg yolk which he found wrapped up in his napkin. He also notices things that apparently aren't on my radar. I'd go back there.
I am not so much about the $10 that I dont want to be around here there Is a lot more to it then that! and I mean A LOT more to it then that! and with the boards I have set up and been working more and more over the last 2 years I spend SO Much time over there and they are free we have 500+ active members on that board it has a chat that you can use all well posting in the boards I think there are better options out there and Free is not the Answer because of the fact that you do get the Trolls and it sucks but the board I am working with have a lot of tools that let you keep the Riff Raf out But if we started to do that then we would look like we are just a bunch of Tools!
So i keep them boards away from this one And keep trying to work out the fun little things I am doing on there who knows some day We mite be able to move to a setup like that but tell that day comes I will keep my other boards Privet SO I can Talk all about YOU guys!! lol JK
or am I??
no for me to Mod. on a set of boards I set up with that many People I get crabie about a lot of the little things people do over here!
I have 199 don't know hardly any of them but its networking for me, a way to show my work and get jobs. for the hun this is the best place i have seen.
ESD, I didn't want to speak that specifically for you, as it would only be an assumption on my part, so please add yourself if that's what you'd want.)
Even though people around here want to do the opposite of what I say just out of spite, here is my 2 cents:
1 cent: $10 really isn't much money. I've been piss poor in my life, but I've never, ever had a problem with coming up with a quick $10 for something. I'll leave it at that....
2 cents: Facebook will allow anyone/everyone to lurk and troll. I like coming in here and "Jakin it". The convo is friendly and there aren't any accusations....
I love their food.
I went back and had it one other time and it was great didnt get sick!
and have eat at the one over here by me and it is great! It was Just one Really bad Meal!

If you're looking for something a little more upscale, there's Emma Krumbee's (formerly Khoury's) in IGH.

And as OT stated, Khoury's (Emmas) is nice too. It's by the movie theater off of 55th.
Glad you've jumped aboard. See ya soon Annette, Freddy and company.
I like the privacy of this place and the $10 although it is not much keeps most of the trollers out of here.
We have had pretty good success on this forum. It would be a shame to ever see it go.
