2011 Clues

zephyrus

I was trying to see if I could fit it to Pigs Eye Parrant, back in a time when men were men, but haven't had the chance to really dig on him yet.

Good find!

Doesn't it seem like they are always mentioning glen, or something Irish, or Scottish? Kinda like a trusty subject to fall back on.

Here's an idea for circulation.....

At HF the balls are circulating up in the sky

hence another way to say circles in the sky?

and could we go so far to say they hang like vultures?

Is it worth noting, at this point, that vultures don't actually hang?

Wabbit Hutch

That's true! I have never seen a bird hanging upside down. It's more like he was thinking of bats.

Bats hang, but a round gazebo, with ice dams, might yield icicles circling overhead...like vultures
Tue, 01/25/2011 - 10:06 AM Permalink
brasscat

My thought about that and it has been bugging me since I read that...

Vultures hang out up in the sky...so ya they hang...but not like bats...as your first thought of a bird hanging....but

the clue says hang LIKE vultures...to me that means not vultures something that hangs up in the sky like a Vulture would

For that reason, I don't think the vultures thing is important to the hunt. I think the vultures are either us, the hunters, or the CW is just commenting that vultures prey on those below, just like icicles (if they fall?).

Everyone must be eating lunch, a mid afternoon lull here.

If the 'Bore' were possibly a water well, which parks may have / still have wells in them?

Highland still has an active pumping station for the water towers, but was there ever a well dug there?

A chestnut, gentle, makes me think of an old song...(NOT sung by Perry Como, unless it leads to Perry Park!). But there may be a song title from days gone by that would apply here.

Just finished slogging and lunch.

I think we need a new clue.

So many possibilities and nothing is clicking together. I reread all the clues trying to just read them and not into them. I am not seeing any consistent pattern.

Och!

I believe CW is using "Och!" as an expression, but since I know that och is "and" in Swedish, I googled Och and found many Swedish phrases with the word "and" in them.

I wonder if CW going for something more like Ach?

"Och" in Scottish Gaelic is an xclimation of regret.

There were quite a few natural springs and streams that have been filled it or diverted underground- especially in the highland area.

Artesian well installed in Lake Como.

Reservoir Woods Park in Roseville: (huge and woodsy)

"The site, which includes some of the highest ground in Roseville, is home to a 30-million gallon, underground water reservoir that for years had been operated by the City of St. Paul. When the reservoir

became outdated, St. Paul sold the land to the City of Roseville in 1997. That land was added to 34 acres of land that the City leases from Roselawn Cemetery to create the park.

Neighborhood task forces and park and recreation planners expressed the wish that this new park remain pristine and forest like. Outside of adding a pathway, the only development the City has done is to restore eroding soft trails and eradicate invasive plants such as buckthorn and purple loosestrife.

Reservoir Woods Off-Leash Dog Park

This is cooperative project between the City of Roseville and Ramsey County. Dogs without a leash can be exercised in two soft trail areas, located just north of Larpenteur Avenue and east of Dale Street. The area to the left of the park entrance is completely fenced so it is accessible to people with limited mobility and their dogs can enjoy the park too. To the delight of dogs and dog owners, the second area is designed so that dogs can run free in approximately five acres of open space."

agreed.... feels almost as "super vague" as to distract and deter or possible red herring.

not that I put any value in the video clues but the owl's eye is RED.

Intersting. I hadn't noticed the color. See my comment regarding the Owl above.

Red like a Rose? Long shot...I know. I still can't convince myself that those crazy videos have any meaning. Seems like a good way for the CW to kill time at work though

What about this for the 'bore'?

Reservoir Woods (from the Roseville parks website)

My dog would be happy if it were hidden here...there's a great off-leash dog park nearby!

Very nice find...of course I like because it goes with my Rose colored glasses idea....and I like the cemetery nearby...heaven or hellcome?

guess that is the question once you live in a cemetery

I'm rethinking clue #2

The whole thing is a tip of the hat to the newspaper biz

1st part is nothing but a tribute to editor leaving

2nd part while focusing on carriers and delvery could also have a double meaning

move with elation/circulation - rounding the bases

stand and deliver - pitcher

could just mean there are baseball/softball fields in the park
Tue, 01/25/2011 - 11:56 AM Permalink
Brassmonkey

Nice variation.

Apologies Tatergirl. I hadn't realized you had posted the same quote from the Roseville parks website earlier. I guess I wasn't caught up on my reading when I posted it.

That is one of my dog's favorite dog parks...I was thinking of taking her there today, which got me thinking.

I guess great minds think alike

My theory is the CW is giving you clues to lead to all the parks in which other carnival events are taking place... to get people into those parks/areas...

The phrase about "Glen", and "Men were Men" has me at "All in the family" trying to find "Songs that made the hit parade" as "A chestnut gentle makes me sentimental...." Also mentioned in the theme song are "Herbert Hoover" and "LaSalle"...

Boy the way Glenn Miller played

Songs that made the hit parade

Guys like us we had it made

Those were the days

And you knew who you were then

Girls were girls and men were men

Mister we could use a man

Like Herbert Hoover again

Didn't need no welfare state

Everybody pulled his weight

Gee our old LaSalle ran great

Those were the days

OK.. I think it's time to go read my treasure hunt history and read just the first 3 clues and meanings so I can take all of our brilliant insightful noodling and dumb it down to "there are deer in the woods, benches is the park"

couldn't come with anything else

Your baseball idea got me thinking..Bert Blyleven was inducted into the hall of fame this year. Found some things on wikipedia that would match the 'piratey' references in clue #2: "Bert Blyleven was one of baseball's most notorious dugout pranksters during his playing days. He earned the moniker "Frying Dutchman" by frequently setting fire to his teammates' shoelaces, a practical joke known as a "hot-foot"."

He was a Pittsburgh Pirate. He had a few swearing instances on air “Minding your Qs and Ps”. Circle Me Bert “Circulation”.

Could point to the puck being hidden in something Bert related...

maybe the medallion is attached to a Bert Blyleven baseball card?

It's been years since I've been in town to hunt. I plan on 'making the rounds' this evening after work to refresh myself with some of the big-name parks.

I'll have a shovel in my trunk.
