The line - "glorious stories of yore", makes me think of old war stories.

Looks like the PP is monitoring their boards better this year. Check out this post from the moderator or admin...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

With respect to all hunters: Clues don't leak. The Pioneer Press takes clue security very seriously. That's why forum threads we see that contain "fake" clues designed to mislead other hunters will be taken down in their entirety.

In addition, we've also taken steps to ensure that fewer posts with obscene words make it onto the forum.

done slogging  only took me 45mins...

only thing I can add is the mining of glass in the tunnels under st. paul...these tunnels are best associated with HF and Crosby..

Don't even get me started on the tunnels of the old streetcars...

I don't have time right now to read over 800 posts but wanted to pop in and say Yarussos is gonna stay open until clue time for us tonight. We are headed there in a bit - abt 8 pm. They said they would have 1/2 appetizers and drink specials.

otherwise see the rest of you at the pp.

probably ABB afterwards. ??

All they had to do was remove bbmtn and that would cut the obscenities at least in half!

Yea, I saw that too. About frickin time! They are actively cleaning the threads up. I posted something and used the word Damnit and it got changed to just D.

That said I also noticed in the thread anchored at the top of the boards announcing this change, someone replied to a rant about why doesn't the admin get rid of the annoying ads. Course the original post containing said rant appears to have been removed. Nothing like abusing the censorship powers right out of the gate.
Tue, 01/25/2011 - 5:18 PM Permalink
mrmnmikey

and how can they sensor the word damnit? They used it (spelling differently) in the damm clue!

By the way pilots hat....Young timer is getting mad at you for bashing the coolers  I sent him an egram telling him you are cooler and not to worry about you. I told him he should join us and come over here.

Work done, dinner done, workout in and done, time to do a little more research.

Not sure how, I think I read the entire Internet earlier...

don't think we're coming out tonight after all. i've got to be in to work early tomorrow too, so i don't want to stay up too late.

If I were to guess I would say its HF, BC, SH, or Crosby.

Great that narrows it down quite substantially

Hi guys! My brain hurts this year. I certainly didn't like this guys style last year and now I have confirmed I don't this year.I think HF is so obvious that I wonder would they throw it out that early? Maybe? What do I know, I'm a newbie (3 yrs). I can't help but wonder about others though. I would have to side with the scottish war stories theme: this thing is gonna be a history trumper...grrr!

Terry

um sorry, but you don't live in a cemetary....

This almost caused a spewing to my laptop! Too dammed funny.

Eags, I don't know what they are, but put red scored pills in the search engine and that was one of the choices. Wish I knew, but it means nothing anyways.

Welcome and welcome back to everyone. Its fun to see all the new and returning names on the who's here list and then read you as I slog.

We did our scouting to three parks. Highland, Newell and Como.

Highland doesn't feel right. Edgecumbe Rd through the park is closed with a detour that goes down Highland Pkwy. Hard to see in the dark, but we didn't notice any ice dams on the buildings there.

Newell is on my list because there are views of the fair, Midway Stadium and that big ice dam on that park building I mentioned seeing last Saturday.

Como feels good too. The Midway Pkwy, the fair grounds being close, all the stuff we know and love about that park. No noticeable ice dams on the roofs out there, but it was dark by the time we got there.

Major construction at the pool site so at least that part of the park would be off limits.

I almost spazzed as we turned onto Horton thinking Horton has a Who...and then thinking of that owl in the video...but that isn't really a clue so I chilled back down.

There is a newer tunnel out near the park though that I hadn't thought about earlier. When they rerouted the walkway from the McMurray field under the railroad bridge, they created a walking tunnel under the bridge away from the traffic on Lexington. That is well lit, and albeit short, it is tunnel.

Please tell me, Crew. Last year's videos: did they have ANY info in them about the puck's final resting place? That Owl video is strange. I am behind in post reading; should my time be better spent on the board or consider the videos and the board. Thanks!
Tue, 01/25/2011 - 6:32 PM Permalink
Terry

queenmalley, I don't think the videos had anything to do with the clues in any real sense of the word last year, and I suspect not this year either.
Tue, 01/25/2011 - 6:34 PM Permalink
Downtown Dave

Might as well be obvious. It is a huge park, with two locked gates. There is a ton of snow to move and everybody walk down the entrance on foot. If they told us it was there tomorrow, it still would take many days to find.

Was out doing some recon, and the thing that really strikes me is the amount of snow. Mind you, I've been shovelling it all winter, but until I stood in the middle of Highland Park, I didn't grasp the overall strangeness of carrying my shovel and trying to figure which acre of snow to uncover.
Tue, 01/25/2011 - 6:36 PM Permalink
Terry

I know that's right. Tons of that stuff to move. It felt overwhelming.

I realy like Hidden falls But are both gates closed? cause that would count it out

Actually, I think the videos gave us a unique feature of Lilydale--the swing arm bridge. He was swinging an arm. So, I'm watching this year to see if we get this again. A lot can be said about the "fairness" of extra content in the videos--as there are people with out Internet, and it is a newspaper based contest. But I do know the paper is trying to get eyeballs to the website, so I have to believe they will contain a small nugget to make it worthwhile to view them.

I think it is "fair" to give a park feature, and that's what I'm looking for. So, I'm trying to connect the dots on this series, and I'm convinced it is at the Metrodome, what with all the inflating and deflating.

yea, It's always fun when someone takes the bait. You would have thought if he'd of read enough of my posts (see the tIM_tHE_hUNTER sniffs glue thread) he'd have figured out I'm just out there trolling and know half the people on the boards.

That said, if I see you give the paper guy more than a quarter tonight....

I went to Hillcrest as well, not for any real reason, but it is was nearby, and you just don't know what would fit when you get there. That would be like Conway--every bit of snow is packed down by the kids from the rec center. That would be like chiseling concrete.

Thanks for Video feedback, Crew. I remember now the swinging arm reference. and I agree with DD about newspaper based vs. hits to their website.

For those glorious stories of yore.

Of the days in the glen, when men were men,

While at Highland this made me think of the old pool ruins made by the WPA when men were men.

I am now interested in old ruins from WPA or CCC, such as the old fountian pools in Como by the old troley bridge,

do you have other old park landmarks from that time period in disuse?

Through the stormy seas, minding our Qs and Ps,

He captained a steady ship

With purpose clear he made us cheer

Or at least keep a stiff upper lip

This has made me think of Roosevelt and the CCC, which made many of our park structures as part of the new deal.

One could call that old pool area at Highland a glen, now that I think about it. Much lower than the rest of the park.

Brassmonkey

It would not count it out at all. In fact it makes me more interested.

However it is still one of a handfull of parks that could fit.

Could it be in a chestnut?
Tue, 01/25/2011 - 7:05 PM Permalink

Hmm, the puck is bigger than that.

Maybe a fake one? Unless those chestnuts are bigger than they look.

Man with all this chestnut talk there has to be a joke here somewhere.

(Sorry if this is repeated from unread posts):

CLue 11 from 2003 hunt has some of the same verbage as this year:

"Who hears a who?

Sear a park with a zoo

Better yet, cross

the street from the

sculptures.

It's a little bit cool

for a dip in the

pool

but a woodsy

course will feed

you vultures.

Repeated words: sculptures, vultures.

Maybe: woodsy=chestnut

Who: owl video.

Is vulture a common repeated word in Hunts?

On another note: The intro video, Goodhue says that blow up doll is his "assistant"

I know there are places at Como that were done by the WPA - but I'm not sure how much of that remains any longer. There are also some seat height walls at the fairgrounds that were WPA.

Additionally, about half of the W. Minnehaha Rec Center was built by WPA There was some controversy about that when they remodeled/rebuilt that some years back. Some thought it should all come down and be all brand new, but those interested in preserving that work won out.
    Tue, 01/25/2011 - 7:13 PM Permalink
    Brassmonkey

I think it shows that it has been the same CW since then.

2003 is when the change occured and the puck has been woods bound ever since.

When we were at Como tonight, I was reminded of all the things from years ago are housed within that city park. The historical trolley station, bridges, the conservatory, the trolley car thing in the West Picnic Grounds, the torpedo, the Gates Ajar, the fountain, the pavillion, and on and on and on.
