I have a park that is my favorite for now. I'm guessing the next clues will either confirm or send me elsewhere,
I'm trying to really keep this simple.
First clue is that it's in a park. The word fair shows up. I am thinking that is the Great Minnesota Get Together. Heaven or hell come - devils den? This clue could also refer to Fairview so I was thinking Como or Newell most likely at this point. The rest of the clue is simply about the snowfall and ice dam problems that have made the news so much this winter. It gave people lots to noodle over. Some noodles that fit Newell or Como was the amid word. Midway Parkway, Midway Stadium where so much snow has been hauled, or the Midway neighborhood.
Second clue is what it's in. My thought about the fact this Thom guy is going to Cleveland is to throw us off. I could very well be wrong, but the whole verse is about the editor. The second verse is that there will be some distance from our doorsteps to the treasure. Get off your rears and hunt.
Third clue is referring to Dan Patch - another state fair reference. It can't be on the fairgrounds - but nearby - Newell or Como. A glen could be any valley. The frog pond area in front of the conservatory is a lower spot in that section of Como.
Fourth clue is a pacing clue very near the treasure. No clue though to which path in which park. This is a zero in clue that could prove helpful later. I believe the prime location is where the medallion rests.
Fifth clue I believe is telling hunters not to give up and with the mention of Favre creates what follows a football themed clue. The da agony and da feat is a reference to da Bears. Of course there are bears at Como and there is the black bear carving near the Black Bear Cafe at the Como pavillion. At this point, I believe Newell is out leaving Como.
So clue 6 may very well prove me wrong, but for now, I like Como.
Oh! and where lovers meet in the winter? The conservatory. We have strolled through the conservatory during the winter and many times there is a wedding going on...and the last few years, you can get reservations for Valentine's Day at the conservatory.
I should also mention the stories of yore. There is enough history at Como - the dutch oven, the trolley bridges, the zoo, the conservatory, the torpedo and so much more. Lots of stories of yore.
The street across from the north gate at HF is Magoffin, and yes that was the name of a ship in WWII..
USS Magoffin (APA-199/LPA-199) was a Haskell-class attack transport acquired by the U.S. Navy during World War II for the task of transporting troops to and from combat areas.
And as of this afternoon at 16:00 that gate was still closed.
We defently have a preverted clue writer. He has a fetish of blow ups, rats, feet and you can't forget Micahel Jacksons arm that fell off. You know what they call that....the st***g*r
"It originated in the early days of movable type printing, when letters were placed manually. Because all letters and characters appeared in reverse when viewed directly (so that they would print forward when pressed onto paper), letters that were reverse images of one another (such as "p" and "q") would often get switched by accident. This led to the phrase "mind your p's and q's", a reminder to be attentive."
I wonder if one of the words in one of the clues is read in reverse to be the clue.
"There are two other types of palindrome, although neither is particularly common. The first is the word-unit palindrome. As the name suggests, these are palindromes in which the words form the same sentence in either direction, e.g. WOMEN UNDERSTAND MEN; FEW MEN UNDERSTAND WOMEN."
Read in reverse: WOMEN UNDERSTAND MEN, FEW MEN UNDERSTAND WOMEN.
That whole section in front of the conservatory is fairly large. I suspect some folks would did out the whole pond - probably more than once, This year, if it's there, there is plenty of other places to dig.
Hello....I'm new to this. I enjoyed meeting all of you last year at Yarusso's...I'm MN Lab Lover's hunting buddy. I haven't been able to get out there yet...but trying to noodle in between work. I really want little red riding hood or robin hood to be part of the clue with the lower case chestnut...I'm sure you all have discussed that clue by now...I haven't had a chance to read all the past posts yet. I'm just wanting to jump in here and get my feet wet.
Terry, I like your thinking, and keeping it simple is always best. I agree with the Dan Patch referernce for chestnut, and my take on the Midway connection is that it's between heaven and hell.
HF, Lilydale, and even Highland.
No light bulb flashes at all.
Bring glory to the schools
And mind your Qs and Ps 'cause an island breeze
Is breakin' all the rules

"days" in the glen

Como 347 Acres
I can hardly wait for the next clue.

EDIT: Nevermind, I found it in cityguides. That's a strong clue

House reference and xmas eve (chestnuts roasting on the open fire, perry como).
I remember this story in the newspaper; sad.
Like purgatory....midway
