The article in the paper actually mentions that the medallion was found near Jake's house.

The jump was on your left and up the hill entering from the parking lot down there.

It's funny about Jake's house. I know I mentioned to him last year that I thought it would be the farthest park from his house. Yes, the closest makes sense. He just needed to take many steps from his door step.

I'm thinking our family will have to pass on Ol Mexico :frown: sometimes life just gets in the way y'know. Maybe we can catch some of y'all this evening wherever everyone is after the hockey game.

After zipping the medallion into one of Murphy's pockets, their next challenge was getting out of the park.

"Those steps were all icy and slippery with snow," Mary Hermes said. "I thought they were going to have to leave me there."

"It was the Afghan mountains all over again," Murphy said.

After dragging each other up the steps, the team saw a lone hunter (JAKE?) near the lone pine tree.

"I didn't have the heart to tell him," Mary Hermes said. "We got to the car, quietly got in, and when we left, that's when we started freaking out."

Ok, it's 2:30 in the morning, you just found the medallion, and you see one person out in the park hunting for it. Comeon, be nice and at least let them know so they can go home and be warm. It's not like you're there by yourself and don't have people there to look out for you.

By the sounds of the exact location (A tree with lots of roots ten feet up from the base of the hill next to the steps) it could have been found days ago.

He mentions dams and ice in clue one and "many more steps" in clue two.

Go find the steps and dig up the big nearby trees. (Assuming you are confident in BC)

Crazy, New Daddy was there for days and must have just missed it.

I'm afraid new daddy was the lone hunter.

Ok.. So the Video clues are saved in an almost impossible to download format, but the Press Conference is hosted through youtube?

What gives?

Also, snagged a few shots of the crowd from the Press Conference. I think I recognize Clue Master and.. Brass Monkey?

I think the old guy with the cane is the clue writer, lol.

Any posts about pity parties should be put on the 'Shoot the Breeze' or 'Re-hash bash' some other thread than this one - if you haven't logged on since last night there's about 170 messages to slog through. It will get missed. Just sayin'.

I was close but not the lone hunter. The tree was off to the side of the steps. It did have a large "winnie the pooh" triangular crevice in some roots at the base of it about the size of a dinner plate that would catch your eye as a posible hiding place, but up a steep bank, and had no obvious human foot steps going up to it. It did have a very regularly use squirrel path, that if he stepped exactly right he could have hidden his tracks, but it was to steep to climb like that. I am pretty sure it was hidden several weeks ago.(I have always guessed that it was hidden within a couple of days of the hunt)

It was very close to 32 paces from the main path.

My son Jonah and I were at the steps monday am and could follow footsteps. The only areas that had been dug were around the dams and they were dug pretty well.

Thursday dug the stairs at that distance from the main path but again did not dig that tree as no footprints going up to it.

It was about 15 feet to the right(looking up the hill)of the start of the steps, about 10 feet up the steep hill from the level of the base of the steps.

Does anyone think they are still writing the clues? Where are the explanations?
Sat, 01/29/2011 - 12:46 PM Permalink
Terry

I was thinking the same thing.

From the way it sounds the medallion was hidden in a crevice or root ball of a tree.

All this snow. All that big park. They still hid it in/near/under a tree.

No sense writing clues. They could just say go out and dig around every tree you find. Someone will eventually find it.

I am disappointed with the hide.

I agree...I never could add anything this year and I felt bad for that...I tried...my mind just never turned on...

one thing I'll say is this....maybe we could have found the darn thing if everybody was on the same page....

I wish somebody would have taken the time to say, "yes, but what about ABC" or another great idea.

this saddens me....

guess i'll have to learn that this has turned into one massive mock hunt where we don't always share ideas...

The bottom of the steps was about 30 paces from the main path. It looked like dog walkers used the steps regularly, as there was a lots of footprint up the steps and to the main path.

I think it was found early because the path from the steps to the main path splits into 2 forks to go around some downed trees just below the base of the steps. If you took the downstream fork, towards the parking lot, the tree would look like any random tree off the path.

But if you took the fork from the upstream side of the stairs the crevice is at eye level because it is up a steep hill. Being eye level it does catch your eye as a good place to look.

catching it was from the upstream path.

Agreed... They haven't had a good and/or clever hide in years.

Ares, I got all the clues that have been posted.. just in case the press decides to take them down. I don't know if they'll post more or not.. I get the impression they're recorded day by day.

People share what they want to share I guess. I share what I find - of course this year led me to the wrong park, but at least I wasn't alone there.

Some years ago, we shared openly our noodles and if we all ended up in the same park, that only made it more fun. It still takes the luck to find the right place (trees for the last several years) to dig around.

Years ago, only amateurs spent time digging around bases of trees, garbage cans, picnic tables and the like. Anyone else would find a spot in the snow and dig and laugh at someone wasting their time clearing all that snow from trees.

KC0GRN

I'm kind of curious to want to go look at the spot... but I'm not sure if I could locate it from what information I know... I might just have to look at a map.

We had a nice lunch at Ol Mexico. I think I'm going to go find a good place to nap and hope the clue explanations are posted by the time I get up again.

Congratulations to the finders and to those who had the right park figured out.

Another thing that kills me. I know Battle Creek park pretty well, but I can't remember a long staircase as mentioned in the article... I think I can see the old ski jump footings on google maps, but not terribly sure...

I just get vary unhappy about the fact that you ask a person what park they are in so as to save another hour drive trying to find someone you know to dig with! and they say they cant tell you FACE TO FACE!!

I was not asking to tell me your noodles or tell me anyone else's Info! just what flipping park should I try to meet you at! And the funny part is if the person your pumping info in to isnt going to help you why the hell would you help them!

Also what happened to the days when it was said I would rather a Cooler find it then anyone else? I feel I would Rather Jake even find it then some one out side the cc!

Another good reason I am not hunting with the cc after this hunt I have made some great friends and some great people over the years and I am going to be Happy to say after this year I will not be hunting with the CC!

thank you and good BYE!

It's not a staircase so much as it is a long series of woodsy trail

timber type steps cut in the hill to make it easier to climb.

As time passes, cooler heads may prevail.

I'm pissed because I won't get to do my 2584 fibonacci joe.
