I agree - when I heard people were talking about the ski jump at BC, I couldnt figure out WHY, just that it was the answer to a clue...I kept hearing it was because of the World Series of Sports and how could I not know about that ....that was basically it. I didn't grow up in that era and when I actually saw the video this morning I couldn't believe it.
Also, only 2 weeks ago CM and I were looking at a house on WBL Ave and A St. - so we knew A B and C Streets - I'm bummed at myself for not searching World Series of Sports sooner.
So I could help with what some of you knew and what I knew. It's like a clue that 2 or more people just have pieces to and should have put them together.
It is funny how people get to what they think...as soon as the men were men clue was out, Jake blurted 'the ski jump at BC' because of that line and at the time, not because of World Series of Sports, even though I think he did get that later.
I think this is one of the best clues written in a long time because it engaged with an old video clip.
And Cherokee, Conway, Newell, Merriam, Phalen, even the Harriet Island to Como hunt...a number of hunts everyone was openingly sharing and people would still make up their own minds about the "right" park.
It didn't mean anyone found it sooner or necessarily digging together,,,but we would find ourselves in the same park. Seeing others you know in the park is fun. Being part of the Cooler Crew has allowed that to happen. Before, you would be on your own and not know anyone else in the park.
KC, it was sooooo easy! Walk in from Point Douglas entrance. cross over the main bridge in to the park .....walk the path around a curve... cross another bridge.... then walk about 25 feet....see the ski hill and log type looking posts that are the old step remnants on the hill to the left??? ...walk another 15 feet on the path and look to the left... you will see straight on a tree about 32 feet off the path with a hole at the base. cant miss it. seriously! Its sooooooo easy!!
Seriously, I thought it was in Como until I woke up. Made coffee, soup for the thermos, and was ready to make an early start. I'm a morning person. Saw the clue, went "Battle Creek", and then, hit reload, and it was found! Son of a _ .
But what a great finding crew. A vet, and a bouncing girl. I'm very happy for them. They seem like good folks. This wasn't some guy without a button walking the dog--they figured it out. So, good deal. Too soon for me, but the dirty dish pile will go down, and I'll have clean clothes. Might even shave.
Happy for the finders, seem like a cool family. Not very happy with the CW. I get that they've given up ever hiding it in a small park again (even though it could be pulled off, and made into a good hunt)... I get that. He's resigned himself to huge parks every year, usually off in the woods somewhere. But he had something going this year that could have been used to -at least- keep people stuck between 3 parks, and make them get out to each one to see what adds up. But this last clue blew that with a VERY uninspired anagram (seriously, anybody who has used the anagram searcher over the past few years, has seen those two words first if they've typed in "battle creek"). and then basically giving the spot at only clue 7. Top that off with the fact that from what I remember of that location, especially with how icy the staircase is to get down there, I wouldn't have even been able to bring my daughters down to check the area. So much for family friendly.
Luck shined down on those 3 though. Very cool if he does choose to give to the Iraq & Afghanistan veterans fund. That's awesome, and the tattoo idea is cool too.
Guess there's always next year, just getting a little tired of this huge park game and how it's getting to not even be family friendly.
I led the medheads to within 20ft of the medallion. We left at 2am. The med was found at 2:30. Need I say more? Ask the medheads if you don't believe me. Or the other witnesses in the park. It was 2005 all over again (exept with a later clue)

the latter, I was right there. The place was hardly touched exept for the areas the medheads and me covered. The only place uncovered was where it was found. I had to wonder at 2am...where was the crew??? No cooler crew there! Everyone decided to wait till morning. Same thing as central #2. We all waited for the clue by the fire while the 3 women fond it right by us. We can't stop when we know where it is!!!!!
True story, mikey. We were right there... I think you were digging by it. I am certain the finders were the ones at the top of the ski jump that were scared to sled down with us... maybe if we could've convinced them they would've never made it by that tree walking down.
That might be me. We (me and medheads) cleared the 2 logs/trees that were within 20 ft of the med. We did not clear the exact tree, although I looked right at it and decided not to look there because it was already looked at. Too much pristine snow that I decided to pass. Ugh... what a hunt...congrats to the finders, but seriously we should lynch the CW :pbpt: Anyone going out to do anything tonight? Maybe a late night pity party somewhere? LOL just wanting to get out of the house.
we went out today to verify...it was about 32 paces from the main path. very steep hill. Was dug out by someone before I saw it...thats why I didn't look. Was 10-15 feet from it! :crying: :crying: This is a very accurate description of the location...
It was true in this caes. Clearly true. Pristine snow...only the places me and the med heads looked and the tree it was found in. There were other marks slightly to the west where others were looking, but no marks in the area where found.
There was a group of hunters just to the west of the spot when we got there. One of them must have come east and dug in that one spot only and kicked it up. I should have seen it if I had my flashlight (which I left at home). I firmly beleive it was there when we were and they came after us and just picked it up.

The mom and daughter were certain about one thing, though - they both said they'd get tattoos of the "sleuthing snowman" mascot of the treasure hunt.
oh wow...why didn't I think of that....I would have just gotten something cheesy like license plate or something....thats an awesome idea...
