I think that is my log :crying: :crying:

I noticed a couple things on the video

First, I'm looking for the root tree. I'm not sure exactly where that is.

Second, I noticed a spotter for the hider in the video. If you watch him, you can see him move. He almost blends in the background.

Heres a couple pics.

I am assuming the hiding part was filmed when the medallion was hidden. The verse is certainly filmed after the fact, but the hiding should have been filmed before the hunt.

I'll have to watch it again, but it looks like that log is dug up already when he presumably is hiding it.

the video was filmed before it was found. The audio was dubbed in after the find. He heard the description in the press conference.

Wasn't dug up. There was a place towards the top where there was no snow under it. I'll describe it kindof a hollow spot under the log. Looks like thats very close to where he put it.

After watching again, maybe not. I'm still confused because the tree with the exposed roots isn't visible in that video.

wonder what he wrote on the paper? Looks like the last word is creek. Maybe 32 paces from creek?

I think the tree I posted in the next few postings is visible just above the finders (dans) head in this pic I replied to

I don't know Mikey. Looks like that could be the one. Hard to tell depending on angles though. Hope you didn't toss it.

One thing I know for sure. I'd make a pretty poor eye witness. I'm not sure what I saw or where I saw it.

huh.. so the tree with the roots wasn't even THE tree?

Also.. how do they manage to pull off a hide with a guy in costume, a spotter, and a cameraman? In broad daylight even.

Is there any way to verify it was done during the actual hide? I'd kind of assume so if the area isn't dug up. I just don't understand how they can pull off a hide without anyone noticing.

People really don't pay attention and cameras are so small these days. you can have a 1080p HD camera in the palm of your hand.

It's the same thing with shoplifters, the more obvious you are the less likely people think you are doing anything suspicious.

There are probably only a real small handful of people that would think "hey wait could that guy be hiding the medallion?"

That is definately the spot. You can see a skinny little "branch" in the upper left hand corner just to the left of the tree that is shaped similar to a Y. Just under the arrow in the pictures of the finders you can see that same Y shaped "branch". That is definately a legitamate hide.

The clue video files from the press all start with the naming convention blg

for instance. Clue 1 is

blg-01-clue.mp4

Clue 5 was edited at one point, as it's filename starts with updated.

I'll grab the hide video tonight.

Any speculations on what blg stands for?

god, one of these days, i need to create the cooler crew wall of shame, and put those of us who came oh so close to the damn thing up on it. i'll even put myself up first as the person who checked 3 of the 4 corners of the clock tower in mears for the marley hunt, and left the fourth for jake to find.

Just talked to 3M who went out to BC again to check it out....he said and I quote from him "I pulled a Reggie...I think it was me who kicked it up that's exactly where I was digging no one else was there but me."

He also said Ramsey county was there clearing the path out and he asked what the deal was with them clearing it so good, I guess they are doing work on the creek dredging it out.

He requested I post this he's going to the cabin today to work on it (I think he's going to lick his wounds :pbpt: )

Don't forget 3M took a picture of the hiding spot on day 2 or 3 in 2005 at Crosby

The house in the video is the one that me2 & I were looking at a few weeks ago when I took that picture of the A/B street sign at the end of the block. The White Bear/A sign is in it's front yard. We did stop and made the comment that they were probably in there hiding it at the time. HaHa probably down the hill when we stopped by. heh

I have one somewhere of that Crosby spot with me2 3M & I practly standing on it that same night. He called us over there but we were too into fun mode with the crew at the time to actually dig. Now we know what to do when Mikey has a hunch.

He's probably the hider and can't believe how many chances he's given this crew and they still can't find it even with him telling us where it is. :sheepish: :frown:

How about the 04 phalen hunt where I walked past the mosh pit on clue 4, too scared to get into it as I saw a flannel shirt in the bushes and thought the area may be occupied.

Mikey - I am truly sorry. I know how it feels.

The wall of shame should also include CM with his picture of the puck glowing in the snow the night before it was found at Phalen.

no, no, no. mikey knows what inadvertently shoveling it away feels like. you, on the other hand, know what literally having the thing in your hands (or at least brenda's hands), and intentionally throwing it away feels like. you win

at 33 seconds! Thats the house we were looking at right before the hunt (its for rent/buy) on WhiteBear Ave and C St.

and it looks like the CW shoved the medallion right where Mikey was -closer than I thought even by 2 feet. wow.

well, i think i got everything everyone mentioned up now.

OT, the hiding part of the video was shot when they actually hid the medallion BEFORE the hunt. Fresh snow. They made the current video with shots from the 'hide video' with the new footage where he is talking behind a screen.

<edit> whoops- a couple people already said it ^

The CW wasn't out there when they found it- PP didn't want it found this early - it was a surprise to them. We almost got ran over by Lori Swanson (in her truck) going to the press conference and I talked briefly with Brewer, he said they woulda like to have seen it go through the weekend at least.

What I dislike is another "I WAS RIGHT THERE A'HA MOMENT" to tell all our friends that ask "so have you ever found it?", to reply "no, but I was so close ....blahblahblah". :frown:

It's a loaded question, like when you ask someone having a bad day "How are you feeling" -be prepared to listen!

well that page may end up with too many stories-

Mikey got a picture twice - Crosby and- what was the other year?

Jesse has that awesome pic for Hidden Falls before the hunt.

Brad has the pic of A&B st before the hunt

Winebago Bill told someone to hunt up on the hill and he pointed to where it was found. Bill told me about that. He couldn't get up the hill.

Mikey, LAmommy? iceman? tryge? What hunt were we drinking down the hill in Mounds Park? I don't think it was the same year.

just a dumb Como 2003 memory, I walked up the path towards the Dutch Oven with CM (and possibly Mikey) saying they won't put it close to or use it as a clue because people would jump on it and ruin it! that very night...they used the dutch oven clue!

well then we can add a lessons learned page

except that it would only have two lessons:

1) never say "they wouldn't do that because...", because they can and will.

2) dig.

But CM and I did drive to it a week before the hunt to check it out. It was pretty funny, we called Jake to say we were by his house and wanted to drop in, Jake says he was scouting Cherokee and was by my house.

ok if we are admitting to our lack of suaveness in hunting....Merriam Park Met up with Slim and (my Dal haven't seen her in years) for the first time ever, and was out with LA Daddy as well. We started at Merriam and LA Daddy was digging up the bases on the ball field and I really wanted to go check out Harriet and told him to stop digging up Second base because they wouldn't put it right on the base they would probably put it 20 paces from the base or something because everyone looks at the bases first....ooops I think the next day it was found on second base....YIKES! I didn't tell him to stop looking anywhere else after that let him do his thing...

Don't forget, the Medheads were right there with Mikey. The rest of my team walked past it a couple of times - no more than a foot away, to go sliding down that hill.

I stayed on the path shining my light on Mike, the tree, and his spot, so he could see while he dug, for about 10 minutes. I was too busy drinking/crying/pouting over the fact that it was at BC to even give a crap to help him dig...seriously sick over this.
