I'm troubleshooting my system locking up randomly and so far, the best I can tell is if I don't run my virtual machine, it hasn't locked... I'll need more time to test it.
If that turns out to be the problem, I'll have to figure out how to troubleshoot what the issue with it might be, as I'm hoping to use it more.
Maybe someone can help with this My Crazy azz Ex formatted a few of My hard drives and Now I can recover any thing because she also removed the Recovery points!?!
Just how technical is this ex of yours? Just formatting a drive doesn't do much. You can probably find some software to recover any data if that's the case.
Really the only way to wipe a drive's contents are to write over each bit on the drive, which most people don't take the time to do. They just assume the data is gone by formatting. Yes I guess the average user could have access to a boot disk with a DoD hard drive wiping utility... guess then you'd be out your data.
On a side note, I think I found the reason why my computer was locking up, it wasn't the virtual machine afterall. Apparently I think I was running too many browsers with Flash.. which isn't exactly he most stable program to begin with.
She knows about Web pages But Really Does not know s@#t about any thing else but her and I have one friend that knows a TON about Computers! And I think they mite have had something to do with it!
I still don't know what you mean by recovery points. It depends on the file system I guess, but I guess if you wipe out the correct information, it can make recovering files more difficult.
I'm trying to figure out a script using WMIC to bulk remove printers in Windows 7 (they took the functionality of selecting multiple printers and wiping them out using the delete key).
I found this command that I believe wipes out all network printers.
wmic printer where "Local='FALSE'" delete
However, I would like to throw in a statement to keep a particular network printer (the one by my cubicle at work, I use it pretty regularly). I know I could just add a function to reinstall the printer at the end of a batch file, but I'd like to think theres a way to keep it without removing it every time.

First issue is geting the computer to even recognize the droid. What a pain in the *ss. You have to go into notifications by dragging a usb notification widow ope to set the usb connection. No instructions at all or even info that the window is there. We had to dowload new drivers and we still get error messages every time we connect, but it works for syncing. Don't know about any other functions like added music or files yet.
Then we had to pay $40 for a program called campanion link and a free app called Deja Office. Campanion Link goes on computer, Deja on droid. Then it worked. Other wise to sync with google calander it only moves calander info and not all contact info goes with.
For a smart phone this thing so far isn't so smart. Its been out for how long and still can't sync to outlook out of the box? Or even connect to an xp machine?
I did all this on my wifes phone and computer and am now afraid to even try connecting my phone on my computer.
So I've had my Asus G1 laptop for a while, no major problems. However, for the last couple of days it has not been going to hibernate mode when I close the lid. I checked my power options and it is indeed set to hibernate when I close the lid. Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this?
Curious, I have an Asus G73jh that I had set the same way, to hibernate when the lid was closed. Then I closed it one day and went to work, came back home and found it had been running the whole time....
Perhaps there's an issue with the BIOS settings or something. Now that you've got my curiousity, I'll have to check it out.
Same happens with my Gateway. Could be the antivirus running. Another thing I do is shut off the optical mouse, as bumping it starts up the laptop even when it's closed.
I've never had an issue with a mouse causing mine to startup before. In fact the only way it should pull out of hibernation is by pressing the power button, which on my model is under the lid. I can see a mouse possibly causing it, but mine has now power running to it when the system is in deep sleep (no power on the USB ports).
Granted it worked fine when I started. My settings haven't changed, except for software updates. My guess on the Asus systems might be a mutual software update from the manufacturer that might be causing it.
if there's a matching pin in the cover, then yes. if you can, stick something like a paperclip into it and see if the machine powers down. some machines (a lot of newer hp's compaq's and lenovo's don't seem to have this and the switch is embedded in the hinge).
As far as I can tell there is no switch on my g73jh, it must be embedded in a hinge like Ares said. Curious thing about this laptop is there is no latch to hold the screen to the keyboard/chassis either.
Figured out why my computer had trouble recognizing my droid phone. The USB debugger on the phone was set to debug. I shut it off and it works fine now. Verizon said they never had any problems before...yea, uh huh
Heh, yeah, I really need to get into the nuts and bolts of phone OSes. I couldn't figure out why I went to plug my EVO into my laptop and read th drive that it took up to 10 minutes before the drive would recognize on the laptop.
I figured out that since android 2.2 lets you store apps on the SD card, it takes time to unmount those apps so the card can be accessed through a computer.
I don't have to unmount at all. Just change the usb notification to "USB" instead of "Charge only". Only need to unmount if I want to remove it.
On a seperate note, I found out I bought a "Global" phone so I can use it anywhere outside the U.S. Could have gotten a Droid 2 that wasn't global at sams club for $50 cheaper. Guess I didn't know what I was buying. I'm not planning on being a world traveler or nothing. (yet)
heh, first rule of thumb if I ever go out of the country, I'm not taking my regular phone. I'd buy a burner I wouldn't care about getting lost, stolen, or what have you.
Then again, chances of me going out of the country are slim to none, so that's just an idle threat.
Roaming was a real plus when I had Nextel. It only worked on their network.......no roaming. But.......it works in Brazil and you could direct-connect to the US.
We still just buy phone cards for emergency calls in the Bahamas. Way cheaper. Plus, I really don't care to make any phone calls while on vacation.
didn't have a data plan at the time, so it wasn't an issue. i'd turn off data roaming anyway. as for paying the bill, since it was a work trip for me, we made most of the calls back home to the kids on my phone (sue's grandma died while we were over there so that was an issue too), so the company paid for the calls.
on the topic, my roommate (some cachers know him as geomatrix) is looking to get a smart phone, possibly a droid, to use with his prepaid phone plan through tmobile (which I hear now will be at&t), he s looking for one he can use with the wifi option, but e able to turn data off on it. I know I can do that with my HTC Evo by just turning off the connction to the mobile network.
Does anyone know if other android phones from other manufacturers are as simple to disconnect from data? I know everyone just assumes you have a data plan these days..
No, not wifi in general, but most phones bundle wifi into their general network settings under the idea that "Hey, this user is in a wifi spot, lets switch them over so we stop using the cell towers".
So really you just need to cut out the cell phone's data service, if you can do it with an app or a widget, that's great. Permanently turning off data from the phone company would also be a plus.
The widget I have installed can do just that: Shut off the cell side if that's your desire. It's a Sprint widget, but I'm sure others have the same or similar.
Another thing to keep in mind it that Tmobile phones will have to be changed out to AT&T phones once they combine everything. They operate on different frequencies (or whatever they call it).

Out of curiosity, how many apps do you have installed to your sd card?
Only reason I connect with a computer is to add music to the phone or transfer photos back to my computer. It's faster.
